[u]August/September 2009 Monthly Modelling Challenge[/u]

[b]....’The Outpost’...[/b]

[b]Overview:[/b]

The idea, as created by Jack, is to have a challenge that is geared towards the complete 3D development cycle from concept through modeling, surfacing, lighting, rendering, and any post processing (environmental enhancement).

Your task is to build a Outpost of your choice, middle ages keeps, old western cowboy forts, world war 1/2 bunkers or sandbagged fortifications, modern day military strong points or futuristic\scifi outposts (space or planet) Its up to you, these are just ideas and you can interpret the theme in you own way as well.

[b][u]PLEASE NOTE! ANY 3D TOOL CAN BE USED![/u][/b] yeah, i decided to get with the times ;)

Remember, this could be interpreted in unconventional ways as well, which I love to do! ;)
A. For instance, how about a microscopic invasion of germs in the blood stream with white blood cells resisting in an lymphatic system outpost...
B. Invasion weed plants battling for territory with the indigenous plants banding together in an "outpost" to repel the onslaught...
C. Ant colonies clashing on their empire border outposts...
D. Flood waters or volcanic lava rivers engulfing everything in its path except for a hastily constructed bulwark "outpost" saving a village or town...

Lots of different takes are possible! :)

[b]Basic Rules:[/b]

1) Use your own work. No pre-made purchased or free models, please. The idea is to share what you can create inside of trueSpace!
2) start a Work In Progress Thread (WIP) for your submission. There is no limit as to how many separate art work WIPs you desire to create!
3) If so desired, a limit of up to 3 final images can be submitted in order to better view your models or even tell a story....However, your first posted image will be your final entry.
4) Final image submissions should be no larger than 800 x 600 in dimensions. A link to your WIP is also suggested (even though I'm sure that most people are viewing them during your creative process)...A WIP is a fun and entertaining place to be !!!
5) [b][u]ANY 3D TOOL CAN BE USED[/u]![/b] the primary tool. Post processing with a Paint Program to enhance lighting or environment presentation is fine. Background images are fine.

[b]Deadline:[/b]

This Month's competition will start Wednesday August 5 and will continue until 21 September at midnight (whatever midnight is in your time zone). This is subject to the level of interest and number of entries and might be extended to 2 months if needed.

A FINISHED ENTRY THREAD to place your Final Submissions on 16 September (5 days before Final Entries are due).

Voting will begin on September 21 through 27 September (7 days)

The Winner will be posted on 28 September

The Winner’s art work then gets the privilege of being in the MMC Winner's Gallery and also has the honor of picking a topic and hosting next month's MMC

I think you need a comment thread too.
You may consider making this two months if you don't get a lot of
activity early on. A lot of people are on Vacations.

I am going to have to make some time for this one.

This was one of my first anamations that I crated when I found TS. Kind of fits this topic, but I want something better.

Thank you Steinie, It was a little slow since it was before I realized how to change the input frames on Virtual dub. I really want to make some adjustments to it so I am hoping to have some time to get that done..

Sadly I think that I'll need to quit this MMC, I'm out of time to finish and of course I don't want to extend for one more month just because of me. Maybe I continue the WW2 Entrenchment After Battle other month... Thanks for all support for who provided to me!

Yes leonregis, just create a basic foxhole terrain and place the models you have on it... those models will be the main focus of the scene and will look great... you don't even have to worry about texturing that much if you make it a black and white photo since most WW2 photos were B&W anyways!

please? it would look great with what you have so far and the ground trench/foxhole should be easy to do with just a genearl displacement shader for soil surface roughness and "voila!"...

Please everyone who has models or scenes for a contest do finish them even if it is outside of the contest. Also enter what you can in the contest even if it isn't finished.

Terrain doesn't need to be detailed etc.: right! Focus on the main "hero" objects and the story. Other things can be less detailed. Use techniques like volumetrics, fog (good for battlefield dust or smoke), depth que, and depth of field to blur or conceal the lack of detail outside of the main area of interest.

Leonidas would say: THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAA...err... I mean: We shall stay and fight!!!
So I'll try, I can't promise, I'm doing some texture tests and getting some result, maybe I start the composition soon, the principal problem will be the ground texture and I'll need help several times so stay tuned at my WIP! And please provide help and feedback. One of the reason of I quit is the lack of it...

Just in a nick of time. Project at current state plus at deadline. This project will continue on as a note and hopefully in the near future will be fully explorable by anyone interested in OurSpace. Added the priest chamber buildings, so all major buildings are now present. Hmmm midnight here on the East coast, but entry reads 4:00am? Hope I am not too late.

Thanks everyone! I really liked all the entries this Month. I hope to see
Noko's in OurSpace soon, that would be awesome.
TheUn always creates these believable worlds which would look great in a shared environment.
I'm also watching Karthogen's project as his cool futuristic landscape becomes animated.
So some of these projects are still alive and breathing with creativity, that is really
what makes this Forum great!
