Helicopters, bah.
At least the winter weather has kept my neighbor, Richard Noggin, from more pointless landings and take-offs of his loud-ass chopper.
Complaining to the township gets nowhere because he's on one of the township downtown development committees.
On the other hand, if he showed up to trim the trees I can't reach I might let it slide for a day.

Got enough snow overnight/ last couple days it looks like the ice skating is on hiatus. Was nice while it lasted.
Plenty cold though.

Spacekdet, that snowblower looks a little steampunk.

I poked my eye on a twig up in a tree today. Now I see two or more slightly offset images through that eye. Makes everything blurry. It was a small soft twig not a hard dry one. I can't afford a doctor but I'll go if it doesn't get better soon.

I once stabbed my eye with a pine needle.
Did not see that one coming. Mowing grass and walked right into it.
Was worried about the double vision but it cleared up in a day or two. Hope yours does the same.
The lovely bloody spot took a while longer to clear.
Did not acquire any mutant superpowers as a result.

Reporting back, I have reluctantly been forced to enter the smartphone age.
Didn't want to, not sure I see the point, hey you kids get offa mah lawn.

My little update:

I have been in Holidays - hanging with my latina girlfriend and trying to work on study and webdesign - not much 3D (as much as I would love to).

I have been working on a site for work, the studio I work for here (WIP)... slow progress. I hope to know enough to then make my own tumblr theme for my own "company" or business model - later register it and become an independent studio if this studio doesn't succeed... contigency plans. I unfortunately am not talented with webdesign and it's code, so it's a very slooooow progress. I'd love to know your opinions on the site as is.

I have also been studying a university course "The Future of Storytelling" by Iversity.org. It's free and well worth the time.

Other than that, I have been also studying "Cinematography of the Incredibles" by Flooby Nooby... very very inspiring. Always good to rehash and add to the resources in the brain - maybe I'll try become a studio director or a movie director or a game production director...

The holidays have been lovely, cause that left me time to clean the house, put things in order at home, grow my relationships without work getting in the way, and to study and feed my mind. I will probably soon get into work again - busy busy again strugglign with the discipline of working and balancing food, sleep, relationships, family, other house matters, bills, maintenance, computer maintenance, work (and their many projects and tasks) with my own desires to create my own projects and to better my education - and then.. push in some experimentation with my own projects and my Alkathosk.. which always seems to come last.

Life is so short. I wish there were 36 hour days and we only needed 4 hours to sleep to feel great again, and dream all in the same time... that would be awesome.

Hi guys

I've been away for a while, thought I'd give an update:

Started at Cranfield in September and rather swiftly got snowed under with work, because of external issues I ended up in declining health
Put on mirtazapine and lost my medical to fly.
That then changed to sertraline, forgotten to take it for the last two weeks with no adverse effects...medical re-instated

Bogged down with two theses, 3 aircraft design projects, a management role and setting myself up with the chance of taking a PhD

Not much in the way of 3D in between

Made a tumblr and some music though, feel free to check out both at the same time (warning...swear words in abundance)

Wonderful. Sewer problems to fix, bunch of bills to pay, and I got a ticket because my brake light is out. No fine if I fix that soon. Parts for my new computer arriving though. Eager to get all that compu-power.

Edit: Yeah. It is the water feed to the house. The old metal pipe rusted through and soaked the ground around the sewer access. The sewer was clogged too. Big mess to dig in. Unclogged but now the water is off at the meter due to leak. At least the leak is accessible but that whole pipe really needs to be replaced. Plumbers. $$$$ Going to my sister's house to shower.

Nope. It's on the bucket list. 600+ miles and 11 hr. drive. Not somewhere I'd be able to go on a whim.
Similar rock formations (I think they're the same exposed layers) as Pictured Rocks Nat'l Lakeshore.
Been there.
10/10, would go there again.

They just had their Winter Ice Fest.

X-Post to Short Term Plans; Possibly heading to cabin this weekend for purpose of removing snow from the roof. That's the easy part.
And then removing the piled up snow from against the log walls that was just pulled off the roof. That's the hard part.
I wish Grandpa had been a fan of A-frame construction.
Taking most of the nephews so that they can help and learn how it's done.

As a plus, we now are enjoying double-digit temperatures.
Still below freezing, but at least not below 0.

Our resident Cooper's Hawk ran into some unknown trouble.
Found him this morning sitting on a windowsill. Later on he was still hanging around the patio with his head beneath his wing.
Later still he was splayed out, now in obvious distress.

A web search turned up a somewhat local outfit that takes in injured hawks.
Contacted them and read up what to do while I waited for a call back.
Prepped a box and gloves and towels but when I went outside to collect him he'd fallen over, pining for the fjords.

Bummer.

Not sure if he'd had a window strike or hurt himself tangling with a duck.
My dad saw what looked like a hawk struggling with a duck out on the ice yesterday evening right at dusk.

Gonna miss him, he was very cool to watch as he hunted the smaller birds at the feeders.

I'm tempted to change my forum name to Bongo Lu Lu Time.

Human Achievement Hour starts in a few minutes. As each year I'll consume mass quantities of energy by turning on all the lights in my house and the porch lights and other devices. I would idle my truck for an hour if I could afford the gas. I might turn the heater and the cooler on at the same time. I will look at my smallpox vaccination scar and think of the terrible diseases I have been spared by vaccines, enjoy electricity produced partially by nuclear power, eat some genetically modified food, ponder that our robots explore other worlds and the edges solar system. Today I participated in something close to a free market and I'm enjoying some of my private property now. I will be grateful for one of humanity's greatest achievements and hope that we can keep it and someday all people will have something like it.

This year I will be thankful for the new drug my sister has to treat bone loss in her spine. The drug causes bone to regrow. The beginnings of sci-fi regeneration. A turning point from hopes of keeping it from getting worse to being able to make it better.

I did some cyber scouting for Twin Buttes where I would like to hike. Walking there from the highway would leave little time to explore so I want to drive near there on the dirt roads. So far I've found none of the roads shown exist or are accessible except through Red Sands which is, of course, sand. I don't have 4 wheel drive or the tires for that.

Twin Buttes is near the edge of an off limits military reservation. While using Bing maps I found that the off limits area and a couple of miles into the public land where the buttes are blacked out in birds eye view when I zoom in a lot. map. Strange since aerial view will show it in great detail. The groom lake facility (area 51, dreamland) map and a-bomb test craters map are ok for birds eye. Interesting.

Ice has melted from this end of the lake.
It always does because of the river current flowing in.
Had a big iceberg remnant bouncing around yesterday, blowing first one way and then the other.
It broke off some low hanging limbs on the willow trees shoving up against them.
Nothing stands in the way of moving ice.
Still remnants of some of the bigger snowbanks left.
Meanwhile, up north, the ski hills are open for business.

Microsoft announced it no longer will support XP operating system. My sister still has an own XP desktop that has been brought back from the grave half a dozen times by me and my nephew.

What's even more shocking is that the company she works for (an internationally known aircraft company) still uses XP for their various administrative terminals for their finances.

Went up on the mountain with hang gliding friends. The road had been bulldozed so the driving was not challenging. To bad. No interesting photos. One got up to 11 or 12 thousand feet. One had a new high performance glider that was difficult to assemble.

That's reporting from way, way back.

The apple tree bloomed. Bumper crop of fruit last year (I'm still picking up mummified apples); and a bumper crop of blossoms again this year. Wish you all could smell it.
It's even sweeter after the shitty winter that finally seems dead.

Roto-tilled the vegetable garden. Usually done by now but this was the first chance I had.
On a whim I attacked a pesky tree stump with the tiller that we've been mowing around for too many years.
Choppy-chop, it was rotten enough that it disintegrated under the assault.
Raked flat and seeded, it'll be nice to not mow around that stupid thing anymore.

Plenty of Baltimore Orioles hitting the feeders.
They're also enjoying the apple tree as they sip the nectar from the flowers.

My nephew had a collision with another motorcycle while motocross racing. He has several broken bones and a concussion but nothing life threatening. One break is unusual but there is a doctor with experience with it in Albuquerque.

I drove for the Memorial Day hang glider fly in on Sunday. They come from all over to fly here each year. The launch is on a ridge above town. The road up the mountain was bulldozed so there was little fun driving their trucks down the mountain. Few pilots came this year. Here is a video:

Started sprinklers.

Good news: fired right up like it always does.
Bad news: after many years of flawless service, it has sprung a leak.
Good news: I found it right away.
Bad news: It's in the mainline, in the middle of a 4 valve manifold tee.
Good news: it's raining, thus mitigating the effect of not having the sprinklers running.
Bad news: I left all my tools out in the wheelbarrow. They got a good 15 minute soaking while my brain finally came around to the conclusion that "Hey, you left those tools outside"
Good news: all my tools will be getting dried out, wiped down and oiled.

Back from hike in the dunes. Tired: check. Blister: check.

I went south from the picnic area hoping to reach the parabolic dunes. I thought if I took more water than the last hot hike I could go farther but I had about half the water left at about the same distance.

I saw two white lizards, ants, pedestals, plants, and dunes. More photos (here) sometime. Other hikes there now.

Still haven't really got a job. Times a changing though. Beyond modding I'm trying to keep up my designing spirit though I find that hard, oddly enough. As you may have noticed, my steady stream of spaceships has come to a bit of a halt, a bit of a stagger.

Maybe I should do more for people, commissions and what not...
Speaking of which... time for some shameless advertising: I did a thing on zazzle. Logo design and t-shirts go pretty well together.

@Dragyneye: Working in 102-105 all week. The desert's low humidity makes evapo-cooling work better so you are cooler per unit of sweat and not sweaty or have soaked clothes. Why go? Same as other hikes. To be in beauty, get away from people, and see, or face, nature. Nature does not tolerate bad decisions. Sometimes it is good to re-learn the value of making good decisions and that risk is necessary to acquire most good things.

@Mikom: Great! You really do logos and spaceships well (and lots of other stuff) so you have an existing collection of things that will work on T-Shirts etc. and there will be more. I hope you sell many items. Suggestions:
- Leave the words off of logos. More generic so appeals to more people.
- Consider making them "template" objects so buyers can easily add their own text. Customizable sells better.
- Make your royalty rate 14.9%. That's the most were Zazzle still puts the item on all of its affiliates. You get more eyes on it that way.
- Use your affiliate ID on links.
- Consider rendering some spaceships or such at giant size for art prints via Zazzle.
- Note on your descriptions etc. on Zazzle that you will do custom design for people.

I like to say that NY has the best climate in that we get the full range and beauty of each season... if it weren't for the bouts of humidity. 100 degrees is unbearable with 80% humidity but just hot when no humidity. So I feel ya (for the record I was being lite more than serious. Hope that's what came across)

Dragneye, you're reminding me of East Texas' humidity (Paris area). Miserable Summers. Born there, then we went to Phoenix. I like to joke that we are the only people who went to Phoenix to escape the heat! Was dry back then. I don't like cold but seasons are nice. Remember them from E. Texas and we have 'em in the mountains here.

Thanks trueBlue. Pedestals are columns or shapes that remain when a dune drifts off of an area. Most are formed when plants grow on a dune and their roots hold the sand when the dune drifts. There are some big ones on this hike and other hikes have photos of them too.

When I do more Zazzle stuff I'm going to put a mini-store for my stuff on my site. I haven't used links or opened to search engines to protect it from spambots but now that I plan otherwise ...

My nephew has had surgeries to fix his motocross injuries. He is expected to recover without disability from the breaks.

An old school mate of mine had a bad motorbike accident a few weeks back. He collided with a tree, broke his helmet into several pieces. He was in a coma for a while, still has several internal wounds but as far as I know but he has been awake since. They still keep him sedated for several more operations last I heard, something involving brain surgery.

As an added addition of bad luck I did a front flip on my bike last Monday when my breaks locked (still not sure why). Had a bruised shoulder and what felt like bruised rib though I didn't see any reason to see a doctor, luckily it feels like it has almost healed now.

Accidents happen. some you can shrug off, some you can't. I hope your nephew recovers soon.

I'll get seeds on a hike at Red Sands. I think the big ones are Yucca Elata aka Soaptree. They are cold hardy but they are Chihuahuan and Sonoran plants. So they thrive in dry places and like plenty of sun. Too much water is not good for them. They don't bloom every year. The leaf points are prickly but not dangerous like "Spanish Bayonet" varieties.

My weed eater is getting fixed, I'm two yards behind in my work, it rained this morning (hard to work in wet yards), my windshield wipers don't work, and the water line to my house is broken. So much for having most of tomorrow off and I get to pay mechanics and plumbers. I'll dig up the pipe so I don't pay them to do that.

@Steinie, No soap tree yucca pods yet since I haven't been hiking where they grow. I hope to go maybe next weekend. I know you don't want all types but I collected some others for you too. So far, red yucca and unknown small yucca. Dagger/bayonet type available if you want it.

Edit: The pipe was easy to fix. Plumber didn't charge me anything.

Don't think I ever shared much in this thread though always thought it a good thread. So...

Been dealing with courts lately, financial scares, started cutting my first okra (planted them again in a long time cuz I remember they had nice flowers and created something edible also), but the flowers don't get a chance to actually bloom this time. They just fall off so never got to enjoy them. Must be a Monsanto seed

And tomorrow, I will cut my first home grown Bell pepper.
Overall don't know if 'life's good' or not, but, still standing so I guess that's somtin.

I say to others "when life gets you down, release the pressure by creating something. The best medicine for an artist" so I intend to take my own advise next month.
