A comic con, cool Steve!

I under-bid a job chopping up a stump with a chainsaw and an axe, have numerous small cuts, was bitten by a dog (minor scratch, canine conversation not an attack), and can barely keep up with the tsunami of weeds. I also have a few new customers, I'll get a nice line trimmer from one in exchange for a reasonable amount of work, and another gave me a mower.

Bad Dog Whisperer: It is best to be friends with customer's and their neighbor's dogs. The dog kept sniffing but issued no welcome so I looked at her to check status. Mistake. A stranger looking directly at a dog is a challenge. So she bit my hand. I'll give her food when I do the neighbor's yard.

Old meter reader/ mailman trick: keep a box of Scooby Snax in the work truck.
Pocket a couple ready for quick deployment when you get to Fido's house.

Also, save your chainsaw and use a Sawz-All instead. Get a pack of long blades.

Reporting back, the cracked frame on the old snow plow truck finally broke all the way through.
Fixing it is going to be a real bitch.
Hope it's all done snowing for the season (probably not).

Not sure what to do with it now.

Celebrating Human Achievement Hour 8:30pm to 9:30pm local time tonight. Turning on all lights, marvel that some of my electricity comes from nuclear power plants, surely something I just ate was genetically improved, grateful for all the vaccines I've had, look at the Bill of Rights, appreciate that my business is powered by capitalism, be humbled that though by American standards I am poor I have so much, gas is cheap lately maybe I should idle the truck ... I should do some math or something scientific.

So many posts here! It takes hours just keep up with all the stuff you all are doing! Hundreds of new images and CG projects! Hopefully you are all outside enjoying warm weather.

Living in Al Gore paradise here. Winter hanging on. Chilly for April. Sierra Blanca was blanco even below the tree line for a few days.

Things aren't looking good. The truck's clutch needs repair very soon. I researched fixing it myself but that looks like a major job for do-it-yourself. Mechanics doing it costs a fortune and I already owe a ton of taxes and most of my tools need repair too.

I've been putting time in writing and practicing with animating to keep the blood flowing. Been trying to share but at 2 frames per minute render time, and then not liking the result and doin it again... its taking a while. But I Have been doin 3D. Unfortunately won't be able to contribute to the challenge this round but I see some cool stuff.

I took the weekend off and drove for the hang glider and para glider fly-in. No one launched Saturday due to strong wind. Sunday was better and several flew. The "golden hammer" award was given to a guy who missed the entire landing area and crashed in a ditch. No injury. A para glider guy was picked up by wind, put down, and dragged through the bushes. He tried again and flew.

I hiked to a rock formation I'd wanted to see and only got to drive once. A less experienced pilot went to the launch ramp about an hour before sundown but decided not to jump. I was driving the last truck down so I waited for her to pack up the glider. Sunset in the desert means rapid temperature drop plus 7000 feet altitude plus wind. Should have taken a jacket.

My inferno hike went well. I went about 4 miles from the picnic area and onto the alkali flat beyond the dunes. I think it is not "alkali" since it is gypsum sand like the dunes. Inferno-mommeter said it was around 103F most of the time but 109 once. I think the pocket where it was had been in the sun a lot then. Photos were mostly not good. The auto focus wouldn't work even in snow or beach mode. I saw an unusual pattern along the ridges of some dunes, wasps, lizards, ants, an interesting pedestal, unexploded ordnance (.50 BMG ammo, the dunes are in a military reservation), and thick corroded metal blocks. I'll probably report the UXO.

Looks like things are getting busier and busier.

I got offered a job to technically direct a webseries. They are willing to invest a lot into the project (of which I don't know where the cash is coming from). So I design the pipeline, train people, find talent and start developing the online marketting publicity and production.

Next week hopefully it will all start, contracts and everything, as I have already started to interview some illustrators for the storyboards, concept art, to start the animatics.

I have also been working hard at delivering yet another few modifications to the screen stand animations I've been doing for a company called North Bayou, one that makes screen stands from China, now selling here in Colombia.

I also have been starting a 4th wing. But planning an awesome breakdown video too. The final wings looks great!

So.. on top of that, slugging away in my free time away from girlfriend and socialities, food and sleep on the short film.

One day it'll get done, been working on it for nearly 14 months now - so much effort for just 8 minutes of animation!

So.. as much as I've been wanting to get into minecraft, or modeling for the monthly challenge, or studying and experimenting in different software.. I've been booked.

That.. is my little report.

Took the Grumman canoe out sailing for the first time this year.
Lots of Sunday boat traffic but screw 'em, sailboats have the right of way.
The H20 Javelina ( Marine Sheriff) idled up to me and informed me that I needed registration stickers for my watercraft. My understanding was that only powerboats needed numbers. He replied that only human powered craft didn't, sail or motor boats need to be registered.
Folks, they've managed to find a way to tax the wind.
Also, they can kiss my wet ass.

Wet asses are taxed at a higher rate than dry ones. The epa also regulates them as wet lands.

I have to pay some taxes today or tomorrow or I'll get a late fee of just over 200 dollars. I just finished depositing my jar of coins and some cash and I'm still $37 short of the needed amount. I'm not joking or exaggerating. If I can get that then I'll have $3.52 (missed some cash) to operate my business for several days to 3 weeks until customers pay for June's service. I'll be out of fuel for my tools after a few lawns. Several other taxes are overdue too. Update: a couple of customers paid today so I can pay it.

Here is something that isn't so ambitious. Decided to try out my new phone's camera. Mostly edited and did the speed tweaks in the phone.. but I couldn't find a good app that would render HD for free with a way to put in music... SO... did the rest of the editing on the computer in Blender.

I know how you feel and its not different where I live!
But you have to understand that there is something not working
the right way in your professional life....I had the same problems and had
to learn from that.....its not those who work hard and even much harder
that have the money nowadays.....you need to make money with your
creativity.....

Right you are Rayman. I should work with creativity and I'm working to get there. It takes running a business to put food on the table while building another with no money while I'm too tired to think. I did it before (Phosphor Gallery) and I can do it again. Freelance CG stuff or get Southwest Panorama going ... much more earning potential and more interesting jobs! Some work just pays better than other work. "Hey, I'm creative give me money" is unlikely to get anything but in the right field of work you can get to a point where it isn't hard to do well.

I like how the old buildings are mixed with the new in your town Draise.

Had a rare afternoon off work and naturally took a hike.
Looks like one of my favorite off trail destinations was hit hard by the latest windstorm.
It's a small set of 4 drumlins surrounded by swamp, covered in a growth of massive beech and oak trees.
Due to it's inaccessibility, I suspect some of the trees have never been cut and reach well over 100 feet tall.
Well, some of them did, because there are quite a few that toppled like dominoes clear across the 'islands'.
Sad, but you can also see the saplings that now have a clear shot at the sky are going to like the new situation.
Surprisingly, despite all the rain we've had the mosquitoes weren't really that bad, and the deerflies mostly ignored me.

The Independence Day parade was ok but there was no music or playing of the National Anthem. I think there was no one at the platform where the radio DJ's usually play the music but it might have been a technical problem. No jet flyover either.

Rain might not be good Bitkar. Normally that hot here and rainy monsoon season now. Humid and hot. I started to ask if the cooling was broken in your office but realized buildings there don't have that since it is seldom needed.

Pretty! Brrrr. Cold water is not to be touched except for drinking on a hot day. I turn the water heater off in summer since the ground is hot making the tap water comfortable for showers. I'd like to go to a lake in the mountains. I don't see how people being there would do harm but it is still off limits due to forest fire debris in it.

I hoped to have the weekend off but I have to work today. Some time for CG though. Maybe I'll get my challenge entry done.

A customer gave me cell phone! However, it uses android which is a google product. Google is evil. So I face a moral dilemma. Make a deal with the devil to get smart phone goodies (the devil always gives what he promises) or do the right thing and avoid google. It seems silly to go to great lengths to block them and forgo visiting some sites to avoid them on my computer and then use a phone where every word spoken, every image, every sound, every gps location, every web visit, every bit of data goes through the bowels of the devil ... plus my customer's info if I did online bookkeeping.

I suppose android is built in and even if another OS can be used I'd never believe the phone isn't hardwired to communicate with google.

Question: Other than Apple products (expensive) what zero google smart phones exist?

PROS: 3x minutes. Maybe volume so I can hear customers. Camera.
CONS: Hellfire, uh, google. Not physically durable vs. my harsh work conditions which means leaving it in the truck and calling people back.
MAYBES: Online, in the field, entry into Quickbooks means upgrading Quickbooks (expensive) for no real ROI. Replying to emails in the field: nice but no real benefit.

Since a smart phone is of little benefit to me the obvious solution is to get a cheap new flip phone and not use the android phone.

Well if the voices of the web are to be believed then all smartphones are constantly pinging your location to near-by radio transmitter towers whether your phone is on or off. Only solution in that case is to pull the battery.

Android though, whether you like Google or not is a pretty customizable OS but if your device supports it, you can always try a 3rd party OS based on the Android/Linux source code, there are quite a few out there.

Some office buildings have AC, but we dont have it (only other office has portable AC). Its not totally neccessary, usually its around 25-30C (32+ is hot for us and 37 is expeptionally hot). Its more a luxury thing in CZ.

But it already rained (a bit) and temp went down to around 20C (which is a big step down). We still need more rain, coz there is less water now. Rivers are pretty dry.

Hey... a thought. I don't remember reading 'kill thy neighbor' anywhere in the whole Book. So where are they getting their logic ? ?

Also saw from Steinie's math example, evidently the variable 66.6 (the 'number of the beast, aka 'Hell')... hell has a balmy temperature of 98.6 degrees. Not as bad as all the 'fire n brimstone' sayers make it out to be. Heck, 98F is much better than 200+ that is fire. A sturdy beach umbrella and some lotion, a person should do just fine. Hmm... ya think they allow AC down there... if you brought your own I mean?

(though I thought the two were different when I was typing I now realize, religious overtones again. ) Ah ha ha ha

Been hot here too. Nothing special but a Real summer. Haven't had those in a while.

I think they have it in Their Book. It would be best if there was no religion at all in this century.

btw: we are not affecting climate. Everything happens in waves, climate is not constant, never been. We have droughts now. Some ppl already say its the climate change, but in fact its a aprox 10 yrs cycle.
In the history of Earth, there were ice ages and such other extremes, with no human involved.

btw2: its getting hot here again :) on friday we will have a beach volleyball company tournament and its gonna be 35C (95F)

No bombing suspects yet. Evidence being examined. An ISIS camp was found near Juarez in Mexico about 85 miles south and they are thought to have the cooperation of the Mexican drug cartels that control that area and to have done surveillance of targets on this side of the border. I don't think this was them. I think it was religion hating kids. Good that no one was hurt.

btw: its still hot in cz... days and now this week still over 32C (90F). Fortunatly we have beer to cool down. And we can go home one hour earlier at work. Its a bit too long. The amount of water in cz is still decreasing. Its forbiden to use water for pools and such.

raaaaaaiin.. finally rain. Long one. Shold be raining alot now. Temp is going down to 20-25C (68F), thats a big step for one night, but it feels good. Interesting is that the buildings and walls and everything is still so heated up, so that the temperature drop is not really felt too much. Doesnt feel like 18C drop.

damn Mikom, where do you live again? doesnt seem like an underground lair. Its pretty nicely green behind the window.

Hey Hey HEY everyone! Hoh man... talk about an extended hiatus huh?!

My wife Nellja and I have been pursuing animation from a different angle- the Voice Over angle! It's a marathon, not a sprint, that's for sure! Here's a couple quick photos we took yesterday while meeting with the founders of Worker Studio in beautiful Centennial, CO.

We've also been in home remodeling hell since last October, when we bought a house. It's a roof over our head but geez.... this is insane! Getting there though.

I found an unusual bump on my shoulder at the top of the deltoid muscle. It could just be a large mosquito bite but there has been no itching or any other discomfort. It doesn't feel like a bug bite, blister, or other common bumps. Hopefully it is trivial.

Thanks Finis and Draise!
We had the wrap party for the project yesterday, though it is still under wraps.
We also met some production company executives who are in the same building - just a few miles from our house.

They remembered Nellja since she submitted a voice over audition for a project they were booking awhile back, so that's a very good thing - that they remembered her primarily by her voice. Well the uniqueness of her name also helps.

Animation is still on my radar; I've been studying acting on camera (and actually working in front of the camera) for a couple years now, so I can incorporate that training into believable characters.
Currently we're working on the yard. I ripped out the dead front hedge - geez what a freakin job that was. The whole front yard was classic style xeriscaping: mostly rock, with a tiny bit of vegetation. Once the hedge was removed, the yard Really looked bad. So all the rock was scraped up, sprinklers and sod are going in, so the yard looks like all the other houses up for sale in the area. We don't plan to sell soon but it's best to be prepared. And, the rock yard sucks anyway.
The front portion of the yard has about 12 inches of dirt that has to be scaled down since apparently since 1963 people kept building on top of what was there before, so now we have these leviathan roots and who knows what else (Jimmy Hoffa?). It is much taller than the rest of the yard; like a big hump. Anyway. Once this is done, WE are done with modernizing this house. Geez.

Maybe some paint but that's it man. GAME OVER. We'll be able to plant some nice hardy (drought resistant) plants and flowers around the area.

Wonderful, my truck probably has an electrical problem. One morning a couple of days ago some small lights, not the headlights, were on. The switch was off but jiggling it turned off the lights. This morning nothing but a faint click. Battery seemed dead. 15 minutes later power but not enough to start. I can't find the battery charger someone gave me*. Hopefully it will start. The mechanics place is 2.5 blocks away but I'd rather drive than push.

*I'm really tired of "someone gave me". Independence not dependence. Other than severe disability everyone should "pull his own weight". I have to get busy and improve my financial situation.

Edit: Yeah, pushed it.

Police car in front of my house this morning. The officer went to my neighbor's yard. There was a large purse, and, best I could see, a stiff belt with pouches or containers in the yard near the street. Odd enough but the belt looked like police belts. She examined the items, talked on the radio, took them to the patrol car and left.

I decided to buy the Spybot (privacy, anti snooping, anti tracking) program's upgrade from the free version. So far it is impossible to buy it online. Spybot itself interferes with the approximately 100 million companies in the payment process, the various systems crash or time out in picoseconds, cookies have to be activated. Get this: this privacy oriented company expects me to give part of my socialist security number to use Mastercard's extra security features ... required ... so far I have no way to skip that and proceed with a normal online purchase.

Edit: ... and I didn't disconnect the truck battery last night so it won't start (charger on it now) and I found a gasoline leak.

Edit: Their customer support form's captcha doesn't work in Firefox even with all scripts and cookies enabled. I had to use unprotected MS IE to use the form. Also, the Spybot website uses a script from google. The ultimate privacy violator used on a privacy oriented company website? OK, maybe facebook is the ultimate.

Edit: Mechanic is closed for New Years and not open on weekends. The gas doesn't leak when it is not running and it looks like a cracked rubber tube. That can wait but I want a mechanic to look at it due to fire hazard.

Firefox is trying to be honest I think. That's why the conflicts I guess.
Sounds like a mistake you ended up inheriting. I've heard they are a bitch to get rid of.

I have found a reason to be thankful to those delicate snowflakes that retreat to their safe space when faced with the tiniest challenge, need counseling if presented with a viewpoint different than their own, and are "triggered" by everything. I thank them for reminding me of the term "candy ass".

I was underwater during the last week-end. Passed my Level 1 of FFESSM scuba diving (I belive US equivalent is called SSI Advanced Open Water Diver). I am now allowed to dive up to 20 meters below the surface

Is there some other scuba divers here on the forum ?

So I'm at Wally World (Walmart) getting lunch and work supplies. I see two twenty-something tall (about 6' 6", 198 cm) males wearing hipster/hippie clothing loudly discussing (not arguing) something inside near the entrance. One says, "I support [garbled] not working." I think he said, "...a move to not working". So two people with attention getting characteristics loudly discuss a political/philosophical matter in a high traffic area of the store. Cool, free speech man, no harm done ... or activists go to such places, pretend to meet there, and draw passers by into their discussion hoping to convert or influence them. Free to do so and should be but, if that's what they were doing, why deceptive tactics?

Later I sit in the truck in the parking lot eating my chimichangas and one of the kids comes out. I watch expecting him to meet his accomplice at their car. Someone else was at his car which was covered with bumper stickers and camping equipment but kid #2 did not appear.

... and one of them looked like Draise! ... or not. Probably just two people talking. I'll take the lack of kid #2 at kid #1's car as evidence that my suspicion was wrong. If they were doing that it would not be an effective tactic with so few potential converts. They would do better handing out flyers.
