Went shooting this morning. Don't know why I bother since I lack skill. $27, two, maybe three, plastic cups full of dirt shot at about 40 feet. Walmart finally had other than empty shelves but the only .357 ammo in stock was hollow points which where the least expensive anyway. Improved and placed most shots close to the cups when I did what my uncle told me long ago, "just like your pointing your finger at it". This semi-intuitive method worked better than using the sights.

I've had a headache and aching upper right jaw/teeth/gums lately. I hope it gets better on its own. Can't afford a doctor or dentist but might have to.

Might want to get it checked out anyway. An infection in the jaw or teeth is real close to the brain and can be deadly.

How's your head Finis?

Antibiotics are pretty cheap for that type of infection if it is that. I remember paying about 8 bucks when I had an infected tooth/jaw. Saved me a lot of pain by curing the infection until I saw the dentist.

Get antibiotics without a prescription? Less headache. Found a sore spot on the gum between two teeth. Been keeping that extra clean and Listerine-ized and seems better. If there isn't improvement in 2 or 3 days I'll see who's a cheap dentist.

Most dentists will prescribe on an office visit if you need antibiotics. Cheaper than a physician

@JamesMC Yeah but they charge for the office visit. Aches went away with proper attention to hygiene.

My truck is being fixed. I'm getting paperwork done but also wanting to get outside even if it is just for work. I really need to go hiking.

Unimaginable rain. How am I supposed to work when it rains all the time? It just won't stop. The prediction for 10 days has a good chance of rain every day. It is a light sustained rain so I can't work for long periods each day and then the ground and grass is soaked so no work or very difficult and get little done. There has been a drought for years but this "monsoon season" doesn't have to catch up for all those dry ones. 78% humidity too so comfortable temps are semi-miserable. Coolest summer on record though: grass is likely to shut down a little soon.

@Steinie, yucca seeds. I don't know if I'll get to hike to where the known soap tree yuccas are given I have to work all the time and it is still rainy. I have seed pods from small yuccas I believe are young soap trees, one from a red yucca, and a bonus ocotillo flower w/seeds. Viability of any of these is unknown. Do you want them (PM or email address) or wait for known soap tree seeds?

There is a leak dripping from the ceiling. Lucky that it goes right into the toilet! Hopefully it is coming from the heater chimney and not a more difficult to repair part of the roof.

I am back

After 4+ years I finally get an avatar. Where's my medal?

Finished MSc, soon to be starting PhD, I accept my fate as a perpetual student.

For those interested, here's something we got up to during our time during the MSc. The video quality is rubbish, as is the music, but since it was made by two guys in as many days...I'll let them off. I had my fair share of nasties, 2am the day before we presented that thing to industry Cubase crashed and I had to remake all 20 minutes of music all over again. Impressed, I was not.

I'll probably make a thread about some of the things I did, not Truespace, but CATIA.

Great. My back has been sore and I've missed work. Two new customers who need to be impressed too. This morning was a horror show but it is much better now ... except one muscle. I over stretched that one a long time ago and now everything is probably, though uncomfortably and very carefully, work ready except that one muscle. Great.

Went to a dentist (a very pretty dentist). The ache comes from one big cavity. Other trouble spots can wait. They'll drill and look next appointment. If it can be filled great otherwise it will have to be pulled. If it can't be filled then saving it would take expensive things I can't afford.

Speaking of pulling teeth, back to doing tax forms.

I'll get a trip to California to deliver a customer's car, with her cats on board, and then get a rental car to come back at her expense. That means more sightseeing! I have permission to take my time and see the sights and go to the coast too (a bit farther than her place). I think I'll go the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, maybe Death Valley, Sequoias route to go there and the cities route (coast highway, LA, Phoenix) on the way back. I wanted to see McWay Falls but I found out they won't let you go down there.

I said I was back, then my laptop BSOD'd on me and then I moved house. Yea.

Started my PhD on Monday, just in time for my supervisor to head for Australia, I am told him disappearing to literally the other side of the globe is pure coincidence...

Until I can get Office installed again I can't access a lot of the files I wanted to show. Though to be honest for those who feel like a natter I'm far more reachable on Skype than any internet forum, happy to add anyone on here, drop a PM!

Wow, that must have been a cool show. Wish you had footage of that. I love fireworks shows.

So... reporting in. It's been a tortuous year, but a tad better then last one. In one month two major issues got settled. Funny how life works sometimes. You struggle, fight, sleepless nights, desperation, exhaustion, hopelessness seeping into the repertoire of life seemingly no end in sight and then one fine day... poof; it goes away as swiftly as it came. I am officially and finally divorced, and a unrelated financial issue settled. Two major headaches down, two to go.
It's taken a good two weeks to have the changes settle in but now feel a bit lighter. Ain't done, just able to keep swingin'.
So.... who wants to go our for a beer? My treat.

Finis... thank You for the effort and kind words. I am an optimist by inclination and a realist by default. But my saving grace... creating.
It's inspiration, medicine... and the best venting method I can think of. Just have to ... do.
(I've been in battle/survival mode for so long that its taking a while to get my head back straight. My creativity has been destroyed. I am still in the dark tunnel but at least now [as of beginning of month] I can see light. And That... is all I need. All that's left is to get to that exit. Then the book (in some form/medium), the website, the business can all come to fruition. lol... that's why patience is a Virtue and not just another acquired trait)

Steinie, that's Awesome! How much he has seen and experienced. Just awesome.

Dragneye, the forum ranks, given according to number of posts, are those of the US Navy with the exception that the forum assigns "Marine" as the beginning rank. Well I learned something new today. I learned that fingers and hedge trimmers and lack of caution is not a good combination. I was doing some one handed trimming to reach part of a bush and didn't pay attention to my left hand's position ... which soon brought my left little finger into contact with the hedge trimmer cutter. Fortunately, I have all parts of all my fingers but I cut the tip pretty good. Saw a doctor and got some stitches and antibiotics and a prescription for a tetanus shot which I've needed for a long time (didn't know you needed a prescription for that). I had better things to spend that money on but I'm just glad I was so lucky.

Huh, you can adapt to nine finger typing pretty fast. Now to try nine finger modeling and rendering.

Edit 11-26-2014: Changed bandages per doctor's instruction. One stitch looks like it tore or cut some. I hope the flap of skin re-attaches. The doctor thought it would and said it has blood supply from the still connected part. The skin is white around the injured area but mostly has sensation.

Steve, is "commissions" a school thing or do you mean you're getting paid to do something?

My finger is better. The cut flap is pink now and seems to be reattached. I have little sensation there. The doctor said that nerves might grow in a few months to years or never. Supposed to have the stitches out today but I'll go tomorrow or Monday.

My finger has healed well. Some of the cut flap reattached but some didn't. The stitched tip was numb and nerves may or may not have grown back but the regenerated tip has normal feeling. Not that big an injury. Now I wonder if the doctor was needed. Seemed best at the time.

Jury duty, again, starts in January. This is my fourth time. I've been on 3.5 trials (obstructing investigation/destroying evidence, manslaughter, drunken driving (maybe, don't recall for sure), and got sick during trial for battery. I think I've done my share of this but I'll have little else to do. They pay you $6.25/hr. I don't like the minimum wage laws but it is interesting that the gov. doesn't obey its own law (min. wage is $7.50/hr). Roman's writings there are disappointing and apparently done with the intent of influencing investors or seeking govt. funds for his project. I found most of his arguments to have little merit and much salesmanship.

Edit: Made my previous comment, which I hold was correct, into a simpler one.

I was not selected for the trial. The defendant allegedly sold meth. The translator (for a juror who didn't speak English well) loaned a hearing impaired juror her equipment (her private property) during Voir Dire when the court provided hearing device did not work well. I liked the judge's statement, "industry beats government again".

I have been to hell. Diarrhea and vomiting. The intensity of the nausea was unbelievable and I can't stand even a little of that anyway. Mercifully, I would pass out, or go to sleep within minutes of, um, an episode. Some hours later that subsided but pain began. Terrible headache, everything but my bones aching and burning. A little sleep this morning when only the headache remained. Feeling better now. I've had some water, milk, mild coffee, and a tylenol. So weak.

It gets worse. Yesterday I had a plumbing problem and the plunger made a bunch of awfulness come up in the shower. I stuck the expanding thing* in the sewer outside and it got the clog but came off of the hose in the sewer. So I can't flush until that is removed. You can imagine the mess in bathroom.

* A tool to pressurize the sewer pipe outside and push clogs through with water.

Vernor's Ginger Ale if they sell it in NM also helps w/ upset stomach. For extreme cases cut it with a little milk.

No wonder the drain is clogged, you really shouldn't flush dogs down toilets.

Applesauce sounds good. Feeling much better. I got the tool out of the sewer and cleaned up. Informed of the situation a friend replied, "and next line is 'I have posted photos.'"

I've been editing my CG and hiking site before opening it to searches. The current task is to censor the location of many of the hikes so people won't know where fragile things are and destroy them.

Well I thought my hard drive bit the dust. I tried everything but the computer wouldn't boot. However when I took off the side it would start to work again.
It turned out to be a HD cable pushed just slightly to keep most of the pins connected but one. So I would get messages like Drive 0 not formatted, no drive, Bad Disk and all the other bad messages...
With the cover off the computer booted with no issues.

I went to the rich people's grocery store today. (They adapted to the arrival of Wally World by going slightly gourmet and serving niche markets such as "nature" people and Wally haters.) They have carpet, a pristine toilet with a fancy "air blade" hand dryer, a wooden cathedral of booze (fancy shelves), and pretty cashiers.

Finally I did it. I've learned the "responsive design" technology for website creation.
I don't really like Wordpress for website creation : edition is slow, navigation into the css and php files is a pain, and I am always afraid of possible crashes of the database.
But that technology has a lot of power when it comes to make a website compatible with tablets, large screen, and there is a demand for that. It is also very flexible in terms of features, via the easy plugins install system.

So, here is my new website using Wordpress and a parallax effect.

The site is still in French but I plan to add a script that will redirect the non-French browsers to the English version.
If you find something wrong, please report the issue and your browser/version.

Next is to find clients to make some income from that new knowledge

Costume is for MCM expo

Started as a cosplay but that would just be me in my flight gear and that's dull so I'm seeing if I can scratch build a custom helmet and armour
