DarkScythe, do you want to model the two Sparrows? I've backed out of those models.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
I feel that the Sparrows are not meeting the project requirements and other people wanting to participate is a good thing.
I've modeled and painted a Turtle, modeled and painted Skinny Frog, painted Fred Frog, modeled and painted two Sparrows...this isn't a "Steinie" Movie. I'll let others get involved in this group project.
I am sending Pugman a complete skinny frog for his use. He will decide what to do next with it.

I am modelling a turtle...I think you shouldn't back out with other model even someone is doing the same model as you have it allows jeff to choose which one will suit his taste or he can breakdown two models and combine the parts he like.DarkScythe, do you want to model the two Sparrows? I've backed out of those models.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Steinie has already modeled the turtle and it fits the project perfect.
Dont put time into modeling a turtle as we have one already.
Do you have any other characters that you have modeled in the past so I can see what your modeling skills are like?

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
hui...seems to be a bigger problem with export/import as what i expected. I think you have a lot of work with "retexturing". Do you use the OBJ file format for the transfer?

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Brought it into TS and made sure all the textures where there and then exported it out as a OBJ.
Due to the cut outs in the windows there was an error.
I will send you the OBJ format of the house so you can see.
Maybe make the windows a sold and then use a texture that simulates windows.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Yes i got it, but it seems to be not the only problem. So far as i can see are all UV informations lost (or wrong) and the model looks complete different. The textures doesnt fit onto the object. Really bad - i have no idea.
Maybe i could try to texture the model outside of tS

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Here is a brief telling of the story behind the animation.
The story starts out with a father telling his son a bedtime story. "Country Squirrel"
It then fades into the story which is the squirrels and other animals.
It is based around two squirrels that are in love but one "Lonnie" has been promised by her parents to another male squirrel.
Jimmy the squirrel has fallen head over heels in love with her and will not let it go.
He comes up with a plan to get rid of his male rival so that he and Lonnie can be together.
The two sparrows help Jimmy in making this work while Mel the old Crow soon learns how to eat his own words in other words he eats a little "CROW"
The story has a happy ending.
The characters in this are all based off of true life characters that I know.
The one sparrows voice will be done by my wifes aunt Sarah and wait until you hear her laugh it is wickedly funny.
So now you all have a idea as to what the story is about.
Once I get the script back from my writer (cousin) I will provide all that have participated with a copy of it.
Ralph,
I thought about a fly swatter and then thought heck this is the country he needs a shot gun and then I remembered this was to be a "G" rated animation so then went to the wayside and I also thought of a sling shot.

Hey Jeff are we building models for an Ark, everything you've requesting is in two's.
Since a large Hurricane is heading my way this came to mind, that and boobs...
Ralph, your first model looks like a Mosquito.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
DarkScythe, I tried to texture your Sparrow but the wing thickness is too thin.
Also it is closer to a real Sparrow and not a Cartoon Character. I'm asking Jeff if he can use it
and if so you'll need to fix the model. Very nice low poly model by the way!
I don't have that talent yet.
The reason I tried to retopo your model is when I tried to import into Sculptris I got this message
"Too many connections to a vertex."
Jeff, All my characters need Weight Watchers...you can tell which Artist is the animator.

sorry about updating the model I didn't see the crow now with a dress I assuming all character have a dress so i put a dress to her... here is Mia S. Parrow with fashion fauxs.
to make it a male just add a bowtie and a pocket to the chest a hat or whatever you can think off.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Here is a image of the woods and the cast of characters that we have so far.
I have others to put into this image but there are not ready in Maya yet.
Not shown are the two sparrows, skinny frog, Dragonflies.
I hope I am not missing any.
Soon I will be rigging all of these and then doing motion test and facial test.
Almost forgot to add Joe from TrueBones is going to do some customs motions for this.
We pretty much have a complete production company.
Writers: Nita Ann and Myself
Modelers: Steinie, Myself, Pugman, DarkScythe and DD
Painting/Texturing: Steinie, Myself and DD
Motion Capture: Joe (TrueBones) and Myself
Animation: Myself so far, if I can figure a way to have others help I will
Voices: Jimmy Swaim, Sarah Campbell, Jeff Wicker, My Wife, Myself, Greg Meyers, Chris Reed and Bonnie
Music: Jeremy Brady, Jimmy Swaim and The Back Porch Orchestra

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Sorry jeff - i'm still there.
3 Houses and cars ... i'm working on and i look for a better way to create it in a way that you can directly use it in MAYA. As i wrote in the last mail: "i think it is not so urgend that you have this models right now - so give me a bit time to deliver a good result."

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
We had a sturdy six-holer in our bivouac area where we used to practice military red flag exercises. It was rather tall as it had to have the heighth to hold the 55 gallon drums underneath. Of course, there was no modesty railing, so we sat and read the "Stars and Stripes newspaper" in magnificant and glorious pose.spacekdet wrote:Steinie wrote:Well take OutHouse off your list...

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
I'm glad everyone is enthusiastic about this project. It is good to see the forum members working on a big multi-person project.
Jeffroig, I hope you make it to Colorado, get the recognition you deserve, and that producers get into this in a way that makes you money.
From the cast picture: I think Steinie(?) is right that the squirrel ears are rabbit like. I also think the squirrels 2nd and 3rd from the left look too much alike. They are just different colors but should have noticeably different features or body builds.

My aunt and uncle in rural east Texas had a deluxe two-holer from when they were poor. I think my house near there had a regular toilet but we didn't have running water so I wonder about that. We had a a well with a bucket. I was less than 5 so I may be remembering the more modern things from when we lived in another town.spacekdet wrote:deluxe two-holer model, faaancy.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Yep, my Grandparents had a two seater as well on their farm. What is missing when viewing my model are flies and smell. (OK maybe my model stinks so it's just flies...)
I was fortunate to experience many types of Mountain living. The Ozark Mountains, Missouri Meershaum (corn cob pipe), Missouri Mules, Hillbillies, Dulcimer, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, whittling and great tastin' fixin's.
I am now tempted to animate some of the Characters we've made for the experience. Jeff put a fantastic tutorial on our site a while back and I plan on trying it out.

I agree that this group effort on a single animation project was nice to see. A lot of talented people came together for a single cause.
Money involved? Where is my agent?...

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
As they say show me the money.
I wish this was a paying gig as we would all be sharing in the wealth.
The part that I hope that happens out of this is a couple of things.
1) The animation does well and makes it to SunDance...
2) The animation does well on a local level and other companies esquire and want work done so I can then put the team back together and we get paid.
3) That is does well on a local level and we receive an award for this.
4) We get more user in the forum that are interested and want to share their knowledge.
In any event I would like to see more users here.
Steinie I know what you mean about living in the hills, I lived in Eastern KY for 5 years and it was a blackhole of hillbillies that would swallow you up.
Watch the movie the wild and wonderful white of west virgina and you will see what KY was like.
I grew up in WV but never did I ever see anything like what is in that movie.
I live in the country here in NC and go rabbit hunting every year and still frog gig and shoot squirrels for fun.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Now THAT is a squirrel!
Mucho better!
I can't tell from this angle but maybe a bigger tail. That would visually keep a squirrel
from being shot by a beaver hunter.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
I actually started out with trees like that but due to their high polygon count in producing the leaves and then looking at other similar animated movies I decided to go with what I have.
The more detailed trees will pull away from the toon look.
Each scene contains about 60 trees each and with the highly detailed trees they would never render.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
Why not use billboard plane from trees that is in the background, those tree that do not interact or far the character you can use billboard plane then use nice model tree when it is near the character or close up in cam. I am suggesting this because the tree that you have if you view from below and look up it is not very nice.I actually started out with trees like that but due to their high polygon count in producing the leaves and then looking at other similar animated movies I decided to go with what I have.

btw... nevermind the "truespace tree" I thought you were going something similar to that with leaves showing, I am suggesting the cartoon look tree at my post.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
here's my sample toon tree, I just did a quick tree in fastest way the "tretoon.obj" is just a sphere with each faces extruded and duplicate it to match it to the branch all in all the tretoon.obj consist of 1929 faces you can make it a much smaller number of faces if you lower the number of segment of the sphere then extrude each face simultaneously.
the picture is the tretoon.obj below.
also included is the tree1_Scene.obj it is another approach i just add a displacement to the sphere then make it a mesh.

Re: Calling all Modelers/Animators
"tree5" is look good but is not cartoony maybe you can find a cartoon texture tree or made a cartoon tree in paint program, it is also good for background tree and for rendering or render a front view of your main tree and put it in the plane with transparent so that they are the same style.
"tree1" is the one who has a problem specially in near shot or view from below just look at "Jimmy the grey squirrel standing outside of his home up in the tree" picture you can see the problem what I am talking about.
"Tree2" looks really nice and it fits... you can render tree2 and tree3 in front view and put it in a transparent plane for your background tree.
