How to "Unlaunch A Boat"
Missed the actual airborne part but it looks like he stuck the landing pretty good!
Cops are currently giving the captain a few tests...I hope he's drunk because you'd have to be stupid to accomplish this sober!
Edit: This is not normally where you'd park a boat.

Brother took a little trip to check on the cabin after the fire.
Missed the property line by about 100 yards / 91 m.

Squeezed in a hike at a nearby park; Happy Solstice!
Saw 0 people but lots of friendly mosquitoes, snakes, and a riot of vegetation. Could explain the 0 people count.

That is pretty country up there. Too cold for me most of the time but all that green stuff looks nice.
What? No cabin photos?
Those are great hike photos, as usual. I like Solstice Light, the cabbage pano, and the fringed fungi. The fungi look like flowers.

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Just back from up north.
Skipped the airshow down here- too darn hot, among other obstacles to attending.
Area burned in the June wildfire is already sprouted a bumper crop of ferns and grass.
The sandy glacial soil just got a shot of nutrients with all the ash and carbon.
Would have liked more time to wander around and look for better photo opportunities...."Maybe next time."
Photo gallery also includes a few images from around the cabin itself; I'm so very grateful it didn't burn down.

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Went sailing again in the canoe.
Winds were fairly light but steady at 5 - 10 MPH.
GPS says I went 8.03 miles with a top speed of 5.5 MPH. Huh, it always feels faster.
Managed to take a tiny video, and this time I didn't even drop the camera.
Ideas are percolating for some sort of mount. I really should just get a waterproof camera.

It's very nice to see your pictures from Michigan.
Both my kids are going to US this year. My daughter to New York for work and my son for a year in high school. We will miss them.

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Thanks.
I hope they both have an enjoyable time here.
Speaking of enjoyable times, I had a nice 2.5 day mini vacation.
We went to the cabin and then took a canoe/kayak trip on the Manistee River.
Video and photos here: http://www.spacekdet.com/photo/8_13_11/"
The canoe liveries now charge full rental prices (even if you supply your own boat) to shuttle you upriver.
So, instead we drove ourselves and our boats upstream, put in, and then floated down to the cabin.
I then jumped on the bicycle (an old Schwinn single-speed beach cruiser) and pedaled the 5.6 road miles back to the car.
Cost: Zero, zilch. I was back before dinner was ready.
On The Water Stats:
Mileage: 7.38 miles / 11.8 KM
Max Speed: 5.1 MPH / 8.2 KPH
Moving average speed: 2.2 MPH / 3.54 KPH
Time: 3.21 hrs moving, 1.17 hrs stopped

It's the big 'Dream Cruise' weekend here in Detroit, where at least 40,000 classic hot rods and vehicles are on display or cruising up and down Woodward Avenue.
Here's one you might see, in fact, it's a little hard to miss.

Nice pics spacekdet, it's always fun to see the world half way around the globe(almost).
Surprisingly it still looks a bit like summer here in Sweden though the leafs have started falling and the sun isn't as warm anymore.

Good pics. I viewed the embiggened images so they would be more cromulous.
Still warm here so some leaves trickling from trees but not much color yet. I'll have to find time to go to the mountains to see the colors soon.

I think those did do some damage on their way through, but they were probably 25 miles away.
Sometimes you can see them like that, check the doppler radar map, and see that it's raining in Toledo, which is about 65 miles southeast of me.
Yeah, it's relatively flat here. Been lucky this season, much of the intense stuff has 'split' and gone either north or south of us.

Take the dock in, pull the swimming raft up on shore, and then what happens?
A week long stretch of 80 F temps and day after day of clear skies.
Here is what it looked like early yesterday morning.

Great place Theuns. I like Hamerkop Kloof show at that site. Could spend days just exploring there. Can you go where you want, wander around, there or do you have to stay on trails?
Spacekdet's scenery. Theuns' mountains. This is just cruel. I don't have any time off to hike.

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
The valley is all farm land and private property but the entire mountain is a nature conservancy area. To get to it though you have to go through peoples land and they charge hikers to go there
... so no, can't just wander around anywhere, unless you know one of the owners and get permission to go exploring... busy making friends with people who knows people who said they'd take us on a hike to some awesome hidden waterfalls up the mountain... can't wait. Haven't hiked in years because the kids are still too young but they old enough now for us to start hiking again as a family
Can't wait!

Took the parents up to the cabin for some fall color.
Had a lot more rain than the pictures would indicate.

Warm, strong southern winds blew the tarp loose on the kayak.
Took advantage of the opportunity and went for a paddle.
Thought about the millions who gave it all & never came home to take a boat ride.
Thanks, fellas.

Weirdo in bathrobe spotted in back yard taking photos.

Thanks, but the new-ish camera gets all the credit. I just aim and hope and push a button.

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
The camera can handle the technicalities. The art is in what you choose to photograph and how you present it in the picture. Your photos are great. Makes me want to hike there.

Maybe galleries with 15+ images are a bit too much, so here is a tiny one.

Never too much of your photos. You have to sign up at Deviant Art or some place like that and sell prints. That first one in your last set would sell like mad.

The ballroom got bumpy, but the video looks smoother.
Lots of fun, even if I am just going in big circles!

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Got a haircut and then snuck off for a hike in the local park.
Took the usual too many photos and video.
Saw a cold garter snake that didn't even budge as I stepped over him. Too busy trying to warm up in the sun.
Spooked at least two deer walking in that splashed off into the swamp. Sorry, ladies, for making you get your feet wet and cold. Spooked another small group while walking out after sunset. They are probably so happy to see winter end.
Other wildlife: the usual complement of birds including Red-Winged Blackbirds, Canadian Geese, and heard-but-not-seen Sandhill Cranes. You can hear their prehistoric sounding calls on the video. In the insect category, a brave, early butterfly and a lone fly buzzed me.
Photos here, video here.
Sure was nice to get out there. The haircut... eh, I've had better.
