Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Moar pix of stix.
Went up to help bro split and stack firewood.
Bonus: He finished before I even arrived. Result!
Autumn colors on the drive up were fantastic, so naturally I took zero photos. Hey, I'm driving; Safety First.
Here's a few from after I let go of the steering wheel:

Something a little different this time; I found Grandma's photo stash and have been busily scanning away.
A lot of people I don't know and can no longer ask about, (LABEL YOUR PHOTOS!) and in my opinion some accidental masterpieces.
Here are some bangers I've run across so far:

"A lot of people I don't know and can no longer ask about" Same here. All the old folks have passed on.
Finding good photography in the old photos. Good idea. The old buildings in Timmins remind me of the towns in Texas when I was little. It could almost be Paris, TX where I was born.

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Good pix Mr. Kdet. No skating with that snow. How about cross country skiing?
You should take photos Bitkar. Much that is scenic and interesting in your part of the world.
I'd be interested in photo's in town too. It is good to see real places and real life from real people who are there.
It's been a mild winter here but it's cold now. 12F, -11C right now at 7:30am. Snow still there from yesterday. The only reasonable thing to do yesterday was to take a walk while snowing:

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Yes, skating is done until/unless we get a warmup/melt/refreeze cycle. Two storms on horizon w/ 6-9 inches (15-22 cm) snow forecast out of each one. Gonna be hard to get good ice out of that mess.
I used to cross country ski... until I tried downhill. Never looked back. Much better to let gravity do the work.
Besides, a binding tore off of X-C ski so they are wall hangers now.
Would love to head north & do some downhill this winter. (I say this *every* winter)
Only fly in the ointment is I have to clear snow off cabin roof first and unless I get help it's a 3 day process that leaves little energy left for skiing!
(That and I just looked up lift tickets and they are $85 for 8 hours of skiing)
Grin and bear it but don't bare your grin.

after all we used to be one country up until the end of WW1. But this is to north of Prague, not south, so it leads somewhere else ;) It is not uncommon to see Austrians with Czech surnames. I dont want to write about covid in this channel, but ya, its no bueno in cz right now.

Crazy season at work so not much photo time.
Excuse the dirty window and the dirty dishes; both have since been washed but I love this time of year when the sun swings far enough to come into the kitchen. Also when the dogwood tree gives me it's annual remembrance of Mom:

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
The mosquitoes were not as friendly as usual so I did not see a lot of them. Despite being located in a cedar swamp the campground wasn't buggy. Being right on the big Lake helps as the wind rarely stops.
Hiking in the woods the deer flies ( = wild horse fly) could be incredibly persistent in making your acquaintance.
The only ones a Michigander really fears is the 'little black fly'; about the size of a fruit fly, they ninja their way in and leave behind over-sized swollen welts when they bite.
Here was home for the week:

Mosquitos. They are plenty friendly here. Maybe the monsoon is over now. Good pix. Good scenery. Good vacation. Does your boat let you reach uninhabited places or were there other people there?

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
The boat has a handle like a suitcase and fit inside the vehicle, avoiding any roof rack malarkey.
However, it is not a serious watercraft like my sea kayak
I just wanted something easy to transport and fun to play in the waves with, and this one from the Cabin fleet fit the bill.
If I wanted to do any serious mileage I'd bring the big torpedo.
Most days I'd see a couple people at some point- I wasn't really all that far from camp- but one day I had the place to myself.
My favorite was the beach walking grandma with two non-stop beach running grandkids orbiting her looking at me with a smile and a sigh and saying "'they have so much energy!"

Some wet sticks, barely visible in the fog.
Delightfully warm for January, I'm not complaining.

the nature and weather looks like CZ now... We have had around 10-15C... its crazy, but we need it. We had only like two weeks with -10C (before xmas).

Protip: Don't try to wing it and shoot freehand... use the dang tripod.
20/10 Would recommend/ Do again

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Photos still interesting. We all get to see photos. You went there and really saw it.
Just enough clouds here to obscure whatever partial happened. I might have gone to Waco, TX or close but (counts on fingers) that is 590 miles (950 kilometers) so 1180 miles there and back. (scribbles on paper while mumbling) Optimistically 20 mpg is 59 gallons of gas at about $3.20 per gallon = $188.

Re: Mix Pix From The Stix
Even at $188 it would have been a bargain. I *tried* to talk you into it!
I spent about 200 bucks on gas and food but split some of the cost with a nephew, who also traveled with me to see the 2017 total eclipse.
I see why people catch the bug and end up chasing them around the globe.
In other stick news, file this one under 'confusing perspective'.

Got away from work for a couple days and took the Grumman canoe out for a sail on the big Lake.

Did you customize the Grumman? Nice!
Pretty shallow water where you were.
Do you own the autographed copy from Isaac Asimov? Awesome!

A boat party and I wasn't invited?
Happy you had some time off. That canoe looks heavy duty. Strong construction. No fish for underwater photography?

Long long ago near a lake far far away Spacekdet did 3D modeling. It is spoken in legends and whispers.bitkar wrote: 11 Jul 2024, 21:51 its like 3D modeled.

A 2013 throwback but seasonally appropriate.
Sliding into sunset like:

UPDATE : Trying new link > edited original post.
Strange, it loads for me but may be new trick they are playing. Video is not visible on my Vimeo page either. I think they want money.
If all else fails I'll just post it on my own site.

I can watch the video now with your new link. I have to do cloudflare captcha to get to it. Previous link required the captcha but then I could not watch the video.
