PMG- Dare to Share... promotion

Post by richlevy »

PMG, makers of project Messiah, an animation and render engine. Cool tool, cool company is offering their software at a very decent price... with a catch. If they meet their goal, you get a license to their software (the regular version 10.00, the studio version for 40.00)
: 'This offer is open to: Individuals, small businesses, hobbyists, starving artists, the unemployed, schools, students, CG studios, game developers, plugin developers, architects, tinkerers, compositors and aspiring movie makers, in any country. Limit 4 copies per customer, mix and match.'
http://www.projectmessiah.com/x6/shop.html"

I just ordered another 2 copies based on the price. This is a great way to get a solid animation and rendering tool (rendreing is only in the Studio version 40.00).

Cheers

look like a good opportunity.
what is exactly their goal? (numbers of people)
what happens if they don't meet their goal? you lost your money?
where can we see the bar that they speak on their site?
i am not sure to understand all.
thank if you can explain that for me.

Hey Rich. Sounds like a great deal! Wow!
Why would we need multiple copies if we are individuals?
Probably because it is one license per computer/laptop.

Which one did you get?

Thanks Rich!

Hm I wonder how often they update their 'progress bar'. No change in 30 minutes. Maybe I am over anxious eh?

EDIT: Just got updated; doubled in length. WooHoo!

Looks like they will hit their mark TODAY. :bananacool2:

I'm poor and I couldn't pass this one up. There is a question of what happens if they don't reach the goal. Do we get a refund? It is very unlikely that would happen of course and this is a company of good reputation so I'm not worried about that.

Messiah was on my dream list. Now I'll be prepared (really really prepared) for character animation and I'll have its renderer and other neat stuff until then.

Just to let you know, the $10 one does have rendering, I suppose it's just not
with unlimited render nodes. That's my understanding of the features
in the basic edition.

They really needed a "shot in the arm," I hope this does it.
The ones who already paid will probably be pissed!

I got it, but am learning with Carrara because that one has good training
materials.

Well, I figure, if they don't hit the mark, which is unlikely, they just won't charge us.
Worst, Really Really Stupid option would be: they'd charge the full price which would spell:

Massive Class Lawsuit, slashed tires, broken windows, etc. :bananamad:

EDIT:
I bought two; I wonder if I only needed one.
Hmm... if I do only need one, perhaps the 2nd purchase could be used for something.... hmm :)

Yeah, they just stated on the page that they will refudn the money if they don't reach the goal:

http://projectmessiah.com/x6/shop.html"
We will update the progress bar so you can see where you're at in reaching that goal. When the bar reaches the end, we will close out the offer and no further orders will be allowed; no exceptions. In the event the goal is not met, we will simply refund everyone. Whether you get the software for this amazing price is up to you, and how well you get the word out.

It's a very good deal guys. :) I bought another license. The license can be put on a usb devise and use it on multiple computers, in my case, I am always using one of a couple of laptops and a workstation, for 40 dollars I get another usb drive and I can leave them in the laptops.

The render engine is a modified version of Arnold, it is node based, pretty cool stuff. With a plugin to use the MDD format TS would be able to swap animations back and forth.

There is the possibility it may take some time at the rate the bar moved from this morning it may happen sooner than I thought :bananacool2:

Froo, you could always sell the second one, they have a very liberal license policy.

10 for the animation package or 40 for the full studio, it's just too good to not try, thy could not be so foolish to mess up with this, every site I visited this morning had a thread on this.

You are correct, I did not realize that, the animation package is only 32 bit also... that may be important enough for some.

Thanks for catching that.

Pretty amazing offer, if you have a linux machine, windows and mac for 30.00 you can have a license for each one.
Pugman, interesting, making it 64 bit makes it a no brainer as long as you do not require the additional render nodes. I am really stoked about this, the buzz they are getting around the 3D world on the net is pretty impressive, the progress bar appears to be 25% of the way there.

More users means more interesting conversations on the forums, more cool tools (users love creating tools to play with and share) and more tutorials to learn new things from.

Back to work, I gota get some studying before class.

Wow, this is awesome.

When truespace got axed, this was one of the few apps I looked at that had an interface I liked. In general it also looked very good in terms of features. Very quick renderer, too.

I never bought it because of the price. Thanks for the heads up. :bananathumb:

Just a note; if anyone has problems with the properties panel flashing when you move the cursor, usually NVIDIA vid cards, you need to set anti alias low in the NVIDIA control panel in advanced setup.

I don't do much rigging/animation so I wont be bothering, I tried v4.5 but the quirky display put me off, mentally quick renderer though :D :D

all you do is go to this page:

http://projectmessiah.com/x6/shop.html"

choose which version you want, and click on the buy button.
Then you won't get it right away, but only after they decide
the promotion is over.

Their page says if the goal is not met they will refund everyone. I found no time limit noted. There are no legal details that I could find. Refund ought to mean getting back the amount you paid but it is not specifically stated how much will be refunded or if or when the promotion ends. I think the promotion will simply run until the goal is met.

since the promotion would still be running!

Steinie, I believe, if they don't meet their goal, we will get a refund of our purchase.

No sense in them giving back only 25% of our purchase if we don't get the product at all, for example.

No, we cannot download the program until we get the license, I believe.
We won't get the license until their promotion goal is met. It would be nice
to know how many they need to sell (or how much they need to make) but I guess
that is proprietary information.

If you need to purchase licenses of the software to use right now for a project, you can purchase them normally HERE -> http://www.projectmessiah.com/x6/shopN.html" and if the goal is met from this offer, you will be refunded the difference in price between the equivalent version you purchased, and the Dare To Share™ special.

If you are already an owner of version 5, and also meet the offer requirements to purchase this special, please see the **note at the bottom of the page.

**note: Users who purchased version 5 prior to this special opportunity, may receive a credit or refund of the difference in price between the equivalent version purchased, and this special (less any merchant or other applicable fees); depending on, and if the goal is met.

You can still download 14-days demo to practice until promotion ends. It's the best bet, since I'm pretty sure we get the license then.
It's just simpler and more profitable to send license keys to us than refund (In the case the goal is not met). I think, that what we see on the progress bar, is rather what they want to show than anything else. I doubt, they give money away, which they have already on the count.

It is very interesting for those who had the project to buy the soft before knowing the goal :D and I imagine those who bought just before  ... like when those who paid trueSpace  just before it become free :D

Hey guys

A couple of things,

Flicker of the interface, man that was a big problem, I hated using the software, it was such a chore, thankfully and mercifully V5 has done away with that evil curse. There are a few people that run into problems but they suggest a simple fix and that seems to correct the problem for those users.

Mac users, download the demo to confirm that it works on your system before attempting to get it to work with the commercial version.

As for the situation of TS and the pay to free... man... I feel their pain :?
I am feeling (and I have no way of knowing this) that this is going to go along just as it says and people are hoping, 2 days in and the progress meter is almost 1/2 way there. I do not know how many new users there are shooting for, but sometime in the next week, possibly 2, they are going to have them :)

It's cool to see so many here are giving it a shot, it will be fun playing in the play box and seeing what everyone does. :bananahi:

If you download the demo, go over to setuptab.com and look at the community free stuff.

http://setuptab.com/index.php?action=downloads;cat=3"
There may or may not be content with the demo, I am not sure, I never d'l ed it, but there are a few community rigs here to play around with. There are also links to free training for the program as well as pay for training.
http://setuptab.com/index.php?topic=485.0"

Get familiar with the program and the way that it works, the interface is not TS, it is a bit awkward to get used to at first, but it does grow on you and after some time in it, it makes sense the way that it is laid out.

Here is a quick tour of the Messiah interface and program
http://setuptab.com/index.php?action=st ... view;id=10"

videos from the PMG site, they cover some of the features of the program
http://www.projectmessiah.com/x6/videos.html"

Bendy limbs and fur tutorials
http://www.usefulslug.com/tutorials.html"

Here is a commercial plugin for Messiah that is called walker, procedural walker

Well, I dunoo, total weirdness, but if version 5 fixed it great.

I just sold my ATi card this last summer and got an nvidia gtx 470 doohickey card, and the flickering problem stopped without doing that AA adjustment thingie.

Well if it turns out, it will be nice to have.

It has an applink to 3DCoat and 3DCoat has an applink to lightwave. Appears to be a pretty cool setup to me.

If it does work out to their full progress I think Froggy was using Messiah and maybe he can give us free lessons. heh heh (ribbit)

I think you might like it James, I am using the applink to Modo, Messiah and 3DCoat, the combination is pretty fun to work between (when I can find the time). You have to do similiar with your meshes in Messiah as you do with LW, keeping to quads means you can use subds in Messiah.

If Frog is busy or unable to help out, there are some decent vtm's at Setuptab, also look for tutorials from Joe Cosman, he really produces some top quality training.

Cheers

In case anyone runs out of patience (like me) it makes more fun to change html than to read it. You can get neat results :bananadevil:
Now even sceptics will be convinced to jump in.

PS I bought pro as well.

I have been using messiah a few years and have done quite a few big projects in it. If anyone needs help getting started I'd be happy to help. There is also a irc chatroom dedicated to messiah on irc.mibbit.net room name #messiah3d

There are many helpful folks there, many are pros. You will generally find any answer to any question you have there.

Messiah is an amazing program you guys will not regret getting it.

Thanks guys for the headsup on this one.
I have now placed my order. I held back from upgrading Vue this time as I couldn't justify the new features for my purposes, but this is a no-brainer.

The most important investment that you make into a piece of software is not the asking price..
its the amount of time that you invest into learning it......
Messiah is truely a very good package and for those that are heavily into animations and want to stay in
that package until the final render its realy awsome.... dont forget though that over the years you will spend a lot of
money on updates etc.
I got a lot of goodies over the years for free on coverdiscs etc.... and in bundle packages like Lightwave etc.
I learned though that over the years I had to taylor the packages to what I want to do and what my strengths are.....
I´m already at the limit with what I have so i will let this... though fantastic......bargain pass.....
It doesnt fit into my pipeline ........I´m also not heavily into animations......I´m 50 this year my time is limited....
I need to learn what I have.... ;) .

@Rayman: there is a time to learn, a time to know what is your goal and a time to do. when you're young, you're thirsty to learn and this is very good thing to find your way. I am 52 years old and I am very selective in my choices since i have 50 because I spend my time creating with what I do well. I will look for the Messiah animated character because it's something I never thorough. At that price, it worth the beatings. No risk, if i can't i stop. I will not waste my time learning software such as Blender, even if it is a good software and free: matter of time and ...age. ;)

Hey Peter,

You don't have to look at it like you have very little time left...if you take care of yourself you may very well
have lots of time left.

I just turned 52, and I have more than one health problem going on, including diabetes, but I'm managing all of them
very aggressively. There are lots of advances in nutrition and etc. that can keep you going. I sort of became
an afficionado on the subject in order to stay off the medical grid as much as possible. It's a pain in the butt,
but I'm doing pretty well...

The way I look at it is, every day is another chance for me to develop my talent, I can still make the film
I want to make. I'm not telling you to go buy messiah Studio, I certainly understand having too many
softwares to learn. Just don't sell yourself short on how much time you have left, just because you are 50.

I have lots of reason to be down on myself for not achieving as much has I would like, but everyday I just
tell myself: today is another chance.

Anyway, just sayin, being 50 doesn't necessarily mean you don't have much time left.

Thanks guys didnt want to come through as old and sick... just wanted to say that i got to sort my priorities the next few years.......
I downloaded the trial of the program ... and um.... well it imported the object well and I could keyframe it too but everything else is pretty much newland........
You guys will see when you get to it its basically an animation package that needs quite some getting used to......not that intuitive.....

I'm just a young un at 48 then lol
But yeah I'm battling with health stuff and my own demons, doing the 3D, games, beta testing etc kinda keeps me sane, well almostly, and on a budget of none :?
If all goes well its a great deal, but I'd never use it, I'm slowing plugging away at Blender and its proving to be a great center hub for my work flow, I wouldn't of thought it would be any bigger learning curve if I did have a go at bones animation, plus the amount of new tuts for Blender is amazing.
As far as time goes I never worry about that, its surprising I'm still here lol

personally, I bought it even though I am focusing on carrara for the time being,
but I'm planning to keep messiah Studio in case I get to be advanced enough /
or carrara doesn;t have some of the capabilties that messiah does.

I think rayman's approach is more practical, but I admit I am not always practical,
haha. At least I'm not shelling out thousands for autodesk software, eh?

I do have a few peeves with pmg, and the messiah community, but with a huge influx
of new users, the "circle of the druids" thing will have to change. I still hope
for the best, and I hope that messiah Studio makes it, and doesn't die. When
version 5 came out, they made the announcement on cgtalk, and there was very
little response. So I was amazed to see how many people actually have good things
to say about it, and actually would like to have it, all over the place, now that
it's cheap. You should see the interest over on the newtek forums, wow.

So I hope this move works out all around.

Yes I wish you all good health !
has anybody of you actually tried that thing out in the trial yet ?
I´m looking at the videos and that thing is very difficult.... Its powerfull no question .. but compared to that thing Blender is easy....
I tried to put some hair onto a sphere......theres hundreds of options for that....not that I want to learn it right away just curiousity....
I can animate next to anything with it including vertex but i cant get any of that motion out to another render engine nor program..or am i missing something here....

I think it really needs better training, imho. I can;t really judge it until I
become more educated. imho, it's certainly not for beginners, but then
you aren't one. Even experienced people have complained about the
training. There hasn't been enough user base to warrant books and etc.
done by third parties. The videos and training have been criticized....
I don't get on well with them either. But there may be hope, if
a bunch of new people come in, maybe some of them will see an opportunity
for creating training!

maybe Dele can tell you.....hey Dele!

hey 3Dfrog!

They could answer your questions over on setuptab too....
