Ditto on the thanks.

Perhaps we can have a "Messiah for Dummies" Thread topic? :)

Not forgetting about Rich, I would like to thank thousands of people all around the world for taking part in that. Someone could say, it was clever marketing move. Well, sure it was. But something was new on this, or had just new dimensions. It was not only the low price, what was success making IMO. Seeing this happened, I was under impression there is still something what I believed is dead. I mean confidence in people who make good software for others. Even though the price is so low that many people consider it scam.
Another point, which is worth to notice, is the effect that it had on the U3DA Community. Threads where you can see W!ZARD, Délé, RichLevy on the single page together is not very common event. It proofs the idea of application independent community. And this is certainly good sign.

This was a success because Messiah is really a good program, PMG is a good company, and they have built a great reputation in the industry of the last decade. The rest was just lots of great people getting out and spreading the word, or willing to give it a try based on people telling them it was worth it :)

Thanks for the nice comments, but if I did not start this thread, someone else would have :)

After finals next monday, my schedule may be lighter of the next few months, it will be fun finally getting a chance you play around with animation and 3D.

Hi, luckily I could get hold of such a very old 256MB-protected-Stick for my own needs. In the actual market you can hardly find any more with a protection switch. Whereas you can buy expensive cryptosstuff & 'strongroom-sticks'(my translation!?) made of pure steel, this useful thing obviously has been dropped by economization.

Found in my research only two, which shall have a protection-switch (not approved):
Imation USB 2.0 Swivel Flash Drive 8GB
Imation Flash Drive 2GB Pivot

Info on some more I have read about, is taken from a 2006-computerjournal. Already then they had said that write-protection-switches have almost completely disappeared from market. There were only but 5 sticks left out of 58 testet ones, which were still equipped with that switch. Well, below you see I found 6 in this test ...

Out of 2006 Test (including the old links):
Firestix RUF2-R2G 2GB (http://www.buffalo-technology.de" )
EZ Drive2.0 2GB (http://www.traxdata.com" )
USB-Stick CS (http://www.trekstor.de" ) - (CS Leather Edition has no protection switch)
Flash Disc Series 2GB (http://www.ultron.de" )
Firestix RUF2-R4G 4GB (http://www.buffalo-technology.de" )
Flash Disc Series 4GB (http://www.ultron.de" ) 2006

So you can be lucky if you still can find another actual one by chance or get hold of an older used one.

Without write-protection-switches is not a real problem because the most important is the ID of the hardware. The license is only a file that can be saved on different place for security (even somewhere on internet). If the license is erased you can write a copy on the usb drive. Just avoid to format the usb drive by error (you change the ID?). Maybe i am wrong but i think it is possible. what do you think about that?

Exactly right marcel. You can keep copies of the license file anywhere you like and copy it to the thumb drive if it ever accidentally gets deleted. I keep an extra copy on my external HD for safe keeping. The main thing to avoid is reformatting the drive. That will invalidate the license.

Thanks tylerzambori, your welcome -
this question had to be answered, 'cause it was interesting for me and is perhaps for others too. Maybe, if everyone would be asking for sticks with a protection switch we users could reestablish it, like it has already worked with glare shiny displays. There is a growing lot of display-offers with tarnished surface nowadays back again ... that's pure user power!

The rendering capabilities of messiah:studio are very impressive indeed. Unfortunately they are useless for another tasks, like ...shipping the licenses. :bananasad:

Well, it must be damn good software if artists like Taron use it for his creations. It's kinda comfortable thought, to be able to use the same software as he does. The only one thing, which is more difficult to have, is his talent...

They are just starting to get alittle snarky over there right now... I guess that is the biggest problem they will face with selling to the low end market...

Got my email, downloaded the software, generated the license / locked to a 512MB flash drive, copy/pasted the XML code into the "messiah_license.txt" file (stored in the root of the drive) and still get the Invalid Hardware Key message.

Usually don't have problems with stuff like this. LOL! Any ideas?

It looks like they have a bit of a kink in their new licensing system. There are a few folks having issues. They're trying to sort it out right now.

What operating system are you on? 32bit or 64bit? What browser do you have?

Hi Délé!

I'm using 32-bit, Win XP Home. Chrome browser.

Just checking out the XML file it seems perhaps it's incorrectly tied to a version < 5. Maybe?
Anyhow, I'm kinda glad to know it's most likely not something I'm doing wrong.

Good luck on that final exam, Rich! :)

Can you please post the text in the license file that was generated? Also the ID number generated for your drive?

It seems that some people are getting the exact same ID's generated for some reason.

I screwed up mine first time around here is what they replied:

We've reviewed your client id and it doesn't appear to be correct. You may have entered the wrong info, or generated it incorrectly: 1. Delete the messiah_license.txt file you have on your drive, and create a new one2. Read the instructions carefully, before you generate your license(s). 3. Run messiahStudio again and get a correct client idIf it does not have B29 at the end of it, then it is not a correct client idYour License text has been reset, so that you can attempt to generate a correct license If you need help installing, go to http://www.setuptab.com"

(it worked with a .txt, dont know about xml)

They had trouble with the license system. At login you get this message:

*** The site is temporarily down for updating. We discovered a bug, in the PHP web language (not our code), that generates wrong numbers for certain client ids who drive info is above a certain number range, leading to licenses that don't work. We have created a custom function to fix it, and are in the process of trying it. If your license file contains the lockid: CB2147483647B29 this is causing the problem. Many other people have generated their license fine, and are unaffected by the bug. There is nothing you have to do yet; we will check the license text for you and see if we can reset it, so you can generate it again.
Log back in and regenerate your license file (my lockid was the one mentioned). Now it is working for me.

Rich,
I bought the Membership 5.0 at Setup Tab so I can view all the beginner tutorials.
I joined Lulu and purchased Joe Cosman's Animation 1 tutorial which is very detailed however the clarity of the MP4 is terrible.
At Setup Tab I purchased Weg's Head and Skin Texture tutorial. The video quality is excellent.
I am halfway through the "Long Walkthru of Messiah" which is very mono tone and puts me to sleep. However the content is very detailed.
So there is lots of studying I have to do until I feel comfortable with Messiah.
Thanks for all the suggestions,
Steinie

p.s question about Joe Cosman's Animation 1
The format on the tutorials is "nameoftutorial.avi.MP4"
If I play as named it uses the Quicktime player
If I drop the .MP4 from the name it uses Windows Media Player and puts a watermark in the top left of the screen.
I use MediaPlayer version 11 but doesn't play MP4... is that right?

Correct. The Pro features are simply disabled for the basic version, so the license file will determine whether to allow the Pro features or not. The 64bit version is Pro only.

If anyone had trouble with their license, as long as you didn't reformat your USB stick, you should just be able to go back to the license page and generate a new license. Then just delete the old one, and place the new one on the root of your USB stick. If that still doesn't work or you did reformat your USB stick, contact pmG customer service and they'll help you.

Just place the new Text file on the USB stick (thumb drive) and not within a Directory.

If your USB stick is letter K for instance, then K: is the root
K:/Pugman would be a Pugman directory

Your hardrive is probably C:

So just stick in your USB stick and create the new text file in K: (or whatever the letter shows for the USB Stick in Explorer)
Assuming your using a USB stick for the license.

Root simply means the root directory of your drive. Basically just don't put it inside any folders on the drive.

If you post the text for your license file, I'll create the txt file for you. Then all you have to do is place it on your thumb drive.

Re-generated the license and things are working fine now.

Loaded it up and was able to drop in a sphere... and move it around. LOL!

At the moment I'm going through the Online Help. ;)

I just got home from the exam, new license is in the email box, test went well. I sold one of the extra licenses at cost to a guy from the modo forums that is close to the starving artist profile I was looking for :superbanana: . So I am feeling pretty good right now.

This is really going to be great, breathe some new life into my creative side. I am working with MotionBuilder because I got one of those student licenses, for 3 years I get to play around with it :worship: Which seems about right, usually when I buy into software it takes 2-3 years before AD buys them up and then pulls the plug on the web check license server. We need to get the middle finger emoticon here, I can think of some appropriate times when it would come in handy.

Thanks for all of the well wishing for the exam, that was probably why I banged it out so easy.

I received my code email, I'm just waiting until I can pick up a new USB memory stick to get things started.
I'll probably never use it, but hey, it was only 10 bucks!

Hi, got my email last night too - created my license - messiah up & running :D

For those who're still interested in using a SD-Card for the license file, like I have done:
As I threw in my question already on pg22, concerning the use of a SD-Card in conjunction with a Cardreaderstrick and its possible influence on the resulting ID (see link)

vi ... 065#p25065"

this is still not answered, but I found an answer for another reflection on this topic.

Over at SetupTab Forums someone said, that the license would be bind to the Reader not to the SD-Card. I thought this could make the SD-Card itself exchangeable. After checking I can not confirm this. I tested 2 older SD-Cards of the same make & size (16MB) within one Cardreaderstick in exchange, with a result of 2 different ID's. So only one SD-Card can be used for one license and if it gets accidentially damaged, the license will go with it. So I'm gonna buy another Stick (~2$) of this make to try if leastwise the readerstick could be exchanged, for giving an answer on the other question myself. If this would be possible it could mean a durability plus of 50% for the license in comparision to putting it on a common thumbdrive - hypothetically. I'll let you know.

The thumb drive I use for my other laptop is one of those cards, SDHC or somesuch thing, it tucks into the computer making it less prone to damage when traveling, 8 gigs, mine is a scandisk version. I had seen several posts on the SetupTab forums about the cards not being to long term reliable so I got a tad bit nervous and bought another usb thumb drive. I can still use the SDHC in the travel computer and keep the other in the home laptop :). YMMV

Second license installed.

Question, I have an older Intous2 medium, this thing is ancient in computer terms... 2003? it still works, not the higher resolution of the new, or the touch features or the buttons, but it keeps working, it is usb so it works on the laptops. I really do not see a reason to get rid of it. BUT... I was looking at a Intous4 small at the computer store today, they are under 200, and they come with all of the bells and whistles of the new ones (well, that is probably because it is new :) ) It is a tad bit smaller, but it does have the higher resolution and the buttons... is it worth it? I have been wanting to get one of those game controllers that allows you to map keyboard functions to buttons, this would really help me streamline some of the programs that I am working with....

Ideas? the intous4 small is much smaller than the medium, and for portability it is probably the best option, it has a few buttons, not many but that might be enough...

Got the license and placed it on a usb drive. Runs on both computers - 32 bit version, cause I have 32 bit and 64 bit puters.

Hi, coming back with good news - promised I'll let you know about my research "exchangeable SD-Cardreader".

Today I tried out one of my multi-cardreaders and put my lincense SD-Card in - messiah up & running! Evidently the program doesn't care about the reader at all. So everyone using a SD-dongle has only to take the SD-Card with him for traveling. Guess you'll find a reader everywhere & guess you can also put it into the SD-slot of a notebook directly.

Just a thought; something I would like to try, once I can setup my messiah license.
There are concerns about the USB device 'wearing out', and having to get a new device, and license.

Well, how about this: Can't we get a usb cable (a tether, if you will), and keep the usb device permanently connected to that cable/tether? Yes, a bit more 'hardware' to carry around, but at least the usb device will not need to be disconnected.

Well, some folks were talking about removing the thumb drive / usb device from the laptop, fairly often. That could wear out the thumb drive apparently. But yes, that would work too pugman. :bananacheers:

I put the number of my card plus the CSC (3 digits) and then I got two messages:
TOP: Card Number: You have entered an invalid or partial credit or debit card number. Please check your entry and try again.

Please enter a valid credit card or debit card number.

Please enter a valid Expiration Date.

I don't know if I'll be able to buy =(

Installed Messiah and did the USB thing. It starts fine. Much to learn about using it. First I'll learn to get my models into it and render them. Little time to devote to that so it will be a long term thing.
