Dribble Render Pass Test

Post by clintonman »

I did some research and experiments into render passes for dribble. I want to add render passes, light passes and texture baking to dribble. These are some tests I did by manually editing the rib file from dribble. The original render is in the center with various passes surrounding it.

that nice, but honestly I dont think this should be the development priority for dribble. Its nice but not so usefull as other things
I just can think of now:

- enabling caustics
- ability to render in other renderman renderers (btw i tried to export to rib and import to aqisis renderer and the RIB file was not understood/couldnt be loaded)
- etc.

Could you not get Dribble to kick out XML files?

Are you saying the "enable caustics" checkbox doesn't do anything?
I do plan to look into other renderman renderers but it will most likely start out as an non-integrated solution.
It you expand on "etc" I might be able to look into it.

Say, clinton; are you porting dribble over to Workspace, by chance?

The thought has crossed my mind. It should be possible via scripting which is a big plus as far as time spent to get a working tool and I would be able to build on/refer to the yafaray and indigo code.

This is really cool. :)

You can already get basic passes out of Dribble by saving to PSD, but these are limited to Specular, Diffuse etc.

Caustics doesn't work for me either (it never has), but personally I would much prefer texture baking etc. to be implemented first, since you can use these with every render. In addition to your list, I would love to have AO and Depth Passes.

It's great to see progress still being made with Dribble, I still believe it has the potential to be the best all-round renderer for trueSpace.

yes, the caustics dont work. I tried it and also put q here to forum and it was confirmed.
I will take some deeper look into "etc.", which I hope someone can help also. Give me some time for it. But there will not be much of it.

btw: i hope it will stay as a modeler side plugin mainly. Dribble is designed pretty well I think.

Many thanks and good luck cllintonman. You can count on my support.

If your interested here's what Sketchup to Kerkythea kicks out, its a simple cube with a KT material, sun and camera:
testbd19.zip
(2.16 KiB) Downloaded 271 times
Thea's Sketchup plugin does it slightly different, it exports a geometry file and collects SU textures if Thea ones weren't applied, but KT exports work in Thea, its just more advanced mats that differ

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know about the PSD files.

Which version of renderman is dribble compatible with? I have not used it in for ever and I was going to reinstall it.

Good question. I don't know but I think the release was compatible with whatever version was active in September 2009. If you use version 9.0 you can get the updated shaders here:
vi ... 518#p18518"
