that is something totally off my mind as a europian :) very interesting. I will maybe find something about it on youtube or somewhere to understand how it works more deeply. Those requirenments are not really strict to me for ppl that are about to influence others lives that way.
Is there some test to measure IQ or knowledge of law???

No the same system is part of our juridical system too!
Its called Schöffen here..but its not that common that people are selected....! Many people also have reasons not to be called in because they are undisposable for the job!
Same as for military service! If someone only served for 6 months they could call you in for 14 day practice! That can be called off up till the age of 50 I think!

@Rayman IDK but I'll bet that different European countries have different ways of doing those things. The Czech way may be different than the Austrian way. Different states have different ways here as do federal courts.

@Bitkar It does seem lax but in the trials I've been on the jurors were adequate. Could be better but adequate is good enough. I'd like to see stricter requirements. The whole system eliminates many who shouldn't be jurors but it would be good to be more measurable and less subjective. Many who are in jury pools are never chosen to be on a trial. Many are permanently excused for mental illness or various hardships. IQ: I'm poor so I meet the people on the lower part of the bell curve. Not able. They often eliminate themselves with bad behavior or are excluded in voir dire. There used to be school classes about citizenship and how our system works. Now school is America bad, marx good, and if you can read you're a white supremacist. So yes, many jurors are ignorant about juries, law, etc. The judge does give instructions about the laws specific to the case and the jury's responsibilities. If indicted then a jury of his peers will determine if he is guilty.

Went to an American school from 1968-1973....and..well it was after Hoovers time..and the rallye but it was considered out of any disagreement that communism was "BAD" back then..and it was the flower power..pro Kennedy anti Nixon time! We used to see people throw darts at Nixon pics in 1972 in Boston Mass!
The nation is divided...yes...but Marx? woooooh!:D
Now we were a democrate(Kennedy) founded school with pretty hefty tuition fees....a half private school..but hey...communism..NO WAY! That probably got you busted....

I watch USA, the elections, the news, the sway towards socialism, cancel culture and communism. Its scary. I hope USA will recover and dont have to go the same path we went after WW2. For us its even more scary, coz we see the paralels - ppl losing job because of their opinions and such.
More scary for me is to see that in western europe and EU itself. Past leader of EU commision (mr. Junker) was in a German city to reveal statue of Marx!

I kinda like that. I see how this can be really useful. In CZ there is only a judge and a system of courts. Ofc if you dont agree with the judge you can go to higher instance of court. No jury here. Definatly no public with no formal law education to judge someone.
On one hand its nice and strong system and on the other hand i find it scary that some "Joe from a cabin at the forest" would influence my life to judge my guilt. But like you said, if there is some natural selection to that and the jurers are mostly fine ppl, and when i can dispute the jury its good.

Last jury duty thing done today. Defendant accused of distributing methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. I may be wrong but I think pot is legal now in my state. It was not at the time of the alleged crime. I was not chosen for the trial. It will be two or three years before I'm summoned again.

The electric power company sent a notice that they will stop getting power (114 mega watts) from the Palo Verde nuclear plant. Now we'll get power from unicorn farts and fairy dreams. I look forward to higher prices and unreliable power. Maybe I'll get a UPS for my computer.

The Memorial Day Fly In for hang gliders is canceled due to the road being nearly impassable. No maintenance for a long time. Fun for us drivers but only a few trucks could get up there now. If many pilots show up, plus spectators, there wouldn't be enough transportation. Much of it is rough but there are just two maybe three spots that require a super macho truck plus skill to pass. I'll suggest that the local pilots organize a repair crew, fix the worst parts, and have the fly in later.

in New Mexico, there is alot of sun for sure. I would invest in solar panels on the roof and some battery. Maybe there will be some to buy from old battery EVs. That would provide at least some of electricity if there is a problem. And if the electricity is expensive, you dont buy as much. Sure, it will cost something, but in the long run...

Bitcoin's value plummeted below my last buy. Waiting for it go up some to break even or a little profit.

Update: 105F! Yeah baby! Just keeps getting better. Blazin' for days after too. Blazin' forever! ... have to move back to Phoenix, AZ for that.

I hear that Bitkar. Born in east Texas where it is humid. Not fun in the summer. Rayman, I've heard that Vegas is an ok place to live but I also knew a guy who lived there who said it sucked. Guess it depends on your own situation.

Inferno hike was ok but not great. Not much inferno. 109 for a while. A wind storm ended the walk early and I didn't get good video of blowing sand. This Sunday will be hot so I'll go again.

It was hot in Vegas! In fact it was so hot..my mom dried my fathers and my suits on our bodies! She didnt have an iron in the suitcase....so yeah we did that....flat on our our chests!

I also remember the temp in San Antonio Texas...its 97 F on Sunday in San Antonio...114F in Vegas...!

@Bitkar It is amazing how versatile life is. Independence Day celebrates the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. There will be an Independence Day parade and traditional activities like barbecues and fireworks. When I can I like to add weapons to the celebration to remember that writing words on paper does not defeat tyrants. There may be organized shooting events but I'll go to a traditional shootin' place in the mountains on my own.

The explodolators were my effort to use TS physics to move objects as if pushed by an explosion. They were collections of small invisible cubes with high mass for their size fired outward into the scene. The the cubes hit things in the scene and moved them. Your advice? I'm not getting to hike much when it is warm due to work. I could try more winter exploration and I'm considering camping. Y'all who hike, camp, live in cold places give me advice and info. about cold weather hiking and camping.

i dont camp during winter, its not too fun and relax. You usually cant even set up camp fire in CZ in most places. But in general you need ofc warm clothes, but easy way to zip it open to ventilate, because even in cold sometimes you feel hot when you go uphill and you need to ventilate well and not sweat up much. Body temperature changes alot during winter hike.

My guesses for camping - folding military shovel to prepare ground/snow. Good tarp to izolate from wet muddy ground or snow. aluminium mat for isolation from the cold. Ofc, some cooker to make coffee. Some even carry heating "pillows" which you can take with you to pockets or activate them in a sleeping back in case of cold (those you can heat up in a microwave and they become fluid... there is a small piece of metal you "snap" and it all starts some chemical reaction and heats up). Warm socks to sleeping bag.

@Bitkar You covered things I hadn't thought of. Thanks. I might go up in the mountains where there is snow. I've seen snow cat vehicles along roads up there. I'd like to try a winter ascent of Sierra Blanca (12,000ft, 3,657m) from the base at Three Rivers. The peak is on the Apache reservation and it is sacred in their old ways (the spirit White Painted Lady lives there). They don't answer my emails asking for permission and people often go there from the nearby ski resort. Other less visited peaks could be good. Being inexperienced in cold activities less adventurous places would be better.

sounds good... 3600 m is pretty high. Mountains are rought, weather can change very fast to very dangerous (fog, snowing, cold, bad visibility, dezorientation). Having good gear is essential. Its better to overestimate than underestimate.
When you plan make sure you will let know your close ones WHERE EXACTLY and WHEN you are gonna be. So in case you dont come back or something goes wrong, they can come for a rescue. Also its a good idea to let the mountain rescue know that you are there (where and how long for). Maybe they will tell you something about dangers of avalanches and such. Good advice from locals is prescious.

Also get some info on the topic. Like its a good idea to camp in the snow - its warmer than the air around and can cover you against wind (shovel will come in handy in that). Maybe dont go all the way for a first try, 2000-2500 m should be plenty.
And one more - test your equipment at home as much as possible, to check if everything works as supposed. You dont want to find out in 2500 m that something is broken... like my new tarp :D (but i was pretty close to my car at least, but i could bring my old tarp too if i knew).
If you use some electronic devices (like GPS) make sure to carry them at your body, batteries dont like low temps and can be drained pretty fast. Powerbanks too.

@Bitkar Being a novice to cold weather adventures I think I'll start with something less adventurous. I'll plan on camping at Bluff Springs this winter. (here) There is a campground there so probably other people if an emergency and the dirt road is nearby. Could try some night sky photography. Good place to view the Milky Way. Hmm, easy drive in good dry weather but slippery wet, mud, snow Winter road? Not the tires or 4wd for that. Some money to invest since I don't have cold weather gear for this kind of activity.

Read about Sierra Blanca peak. It looks like too many people go there to be as good as I would want. I'd prefer a seldom visited place for adventure. Also, the ski resort's highest lift has a building there near Lookout Peak which has a plaque and seats etc. That is visible from Sierra Blanca peak about 0.5 miles (1Km) away. So I'll pick some seldom visited peak when I'm ready for such a Winter adventure. I'd like to camp and explore in the Gila Wilderness but alone away from campgrounds/roads/trails that is expert stuff. They aren't joking about 'wilderness' there.

Hang glider Fly In is not canceled but didn't happen. One pilot flew twice yesterday. Another left without flying. One showed up today, tried to drive up there, turned back. He didn't want to try again. Unlikely anyone else will be around this weekend. Two trucks plus several ATV's went up yesterday. The road is very difficult but it can be done with planning, filling holes with rocks, and sometimes a spotter. Here is Sierra Blanca viewed from the launch area. About 35mi (56km) away straight line.

It is now. That's what it takes to drive it. Normally 4WD is needed but not difficult. The rare times it is bulldozed then a few 2WD's could do it too. ATV's and motorcycles have little trouble. Many glider pilots have good 4WD vehicles but they've heard about the current condition so they aren't coming.

I'm using the setting for this project, link, to a make Christmas video. Like the main project it will have customizations for each recipient. Mostly this is a project for learning Blender. I've learned a lot.

Y'all's observations and advice would be appreciated.

This is an animatic with quick renders plus a fully rendered shot at the end. Its purpose is to get a feel for the flow of the whole movie, stretch and shrink the quick shots in HitFilm to get the pace right to match music, detect problems, and make story decisions. The idea is to have 'far shots' that show the setting and 'close shots' that show closer views and have the customized parts. The far shots should be generic to save render time for the customized versions.

I have two main things to solve. The ending and the stockings.

I think it would be better to switch the placement of the Christmas card part and the presents part. Have the sweep by the cards last and finish with the angel.
UPDATE: I will put the Christmas cards part last and end with the angel. Your ideas, critiques, advice welcome of course on all aspects throughout the project.

The fire place is visible in three shots but only customized in the close pass by the mantle. Gotta show off that fire simulation. So the number of stockings and picture frames at the fire place won't usually match the number in the customized close up. Solution?

The finished product will be 1440p, 60fps. It has academy flat ratio so letterbox bars. The photos, Christmas cards, and name tags on stockings and gifts will be customized.

A restaurant called Y'alls Steakhouse opened here. This started a debate about the spelling of Y'all's. Y'all is a contraction of you all so there is an apostrophe. It is possessive so the "s" gets an apostrophe. So I think it is y'all's.

If I ever get the Paige Turner model rigged for animation I want to make video of her moving and talking rendered as close to photo-realistic as I can get. A high quality facial close up takes about four minutes on my computer with Blender 3.1 and cycles. That's 120 hours of rendering per 1 minute of animation. I used the estimator at a render farm thinking it might be affordable. $600. Render farms aren't for hobbyists. Patience, lower quality, or use eevee semi-realistic renderer. Still can't get the shoulders rigged right and no time to work on it.

I wanted driving video but the pilots were eager to get to launch so no cooperation to get it. This one has driving video https://vimeo.com/503730977. Other glider pilots said the backward facing launch was dangerous. He did not do that intentionally.

Went to the air show today. Thunderbirds, F35, cargo planes, helicopters. No F22's? Sunburn. I neglected sunblock and I look like a cherry.

New water heater. Installing it now.

Desert Life: In the hottest part of the year the ground is hot down to the pipes. A shower is comfortable with the "cold" water.

August 28 update
Installation is not going well. The water heater, washer, and oven must fit side by side in a space. For the foreseeable future none can be relocated. There is very little space between them. Got it in there but not level, wobbly. I have ideas but too tired. Work on it tomorrow. Good things are the gas, water, and vent will fit with no big adjustments and I fixed the back door hinge so I can open it now.

September 6 update
Water heater installed and working. Three days ago I think.

HitFilm Express, the free version, no longer exists. Version 2021.3 is the last one. There is some place on the company website with "legacy" in the URL to get that. It is now subscription. There is a free trial version but it is not a powerful as HFE and requires a web login, can't be used locally like HFE. I'll be learning Davinci Resolve which is still a free download. To give credit to both though, any free version of a program of that scale and complexity is a generous gift even as a promo to sell the main version.

I used the fireworks setting on my camera and got better photos of Christmas decorated houses than last year. One house decorated the back yard too and visitors were welcome to go there. More neighbors there were decorating like this too.

Blender Artists chellenge theme "tunnel". Discombobulate add on for tunnel greebles. Magnetic force applied to particles. Particles rendered as paths. Create curves from paths.

Nice start, get some DOF on the path/curves, maybe a graduated colour, something to send it into the distance.
At the moment it is sitting on the surface not going into the tunnel.
Maybe the path could have a coloured glow that gets reflected down the tunnel.

Good advice Saul. That picture was a quickie for anti boredom so I probably won't do another finished one. I did try dof, different camera angle, etc. Gave a good sense of distance. It has a little volumetric scattering but dof did better. Both was great but touchy to adjust. Blender 3.4.

A future city in an ocean. The exact form is not predictable since the main structure is grown by nanotechnology. The nanites harvest materials from the seafloor, water, and some delivered from other places to build it. Then they repair damage and maintain it.

Sea City

Blender 3.4. Cycles render. The spirals begin as particles effected by a vortex force field. Set the particle render type to Path. Bake the particles. The paths are only calculated and shown when baked. Convert particles to mesh. Convert mesh to curve. Give curve thickness. Then convert back to mesh. Vertex groups Bottom and Lights are used. Lights is a random selection of faces/polygons mostly along the sides. They get a light emitting material. Top is used to place 3001 tree particle instances. The trees are from the Sapling generator that is part of Blender. I used the Ocean modifier for the water.

Plants of Delta Na’an

The colonists of Delta Na’an find inspiration in the striking forms of its flora.

The plants are generated with an ancient program called Plant Studio. Its breeder feature can produce wild looking plants. A studio HDRI is the only lighting. Simple cylinders, toruses, and a plane modeled in Blender 3.51. Cycles render.

This is an entry in the BlenderArtists.Org challenge "not of this world". Non-competing since not much Blender was used.

I drew this object in the 80’s. I think I saw it in a dream. In 2016 I modeled it in Hexagon. I only found a .obj file for it now.

I imported the .obj into Blender 3.51, separated the blocks into individual objects, and applied materials.

Rendered with cycles, 2002 samples, composited with a mist pass.

Columbus Day Fly In started slow then several para-gliders arrived Saturday and Sunday and it became an event. Big trucks, big rocks, broken drive shaft, Mexicans, side-by-side atv's, launches, flights. Much good video and photos. No hang gliders. Pilots said people are switching to PG's.

Wish they brought real trucks.
