Here are five propellers. Different number of blades, different speeds. They go up till they get to the upper edge of the atmosphere then they come down.
Sorry I didn't post movies, I don't have a YouTube account (I'm one of those. :) ).

Cool.
Say, I never figured out how to use motion blur in 6.6 / 7.6 Model side.
How do you do that?

Also, you could compress the video file in .zip format if it will fit, and post that.
I'd love to see these videos! :D

To use motion blur, when you render to file, you just set it to On and set length and number of frames. For the image with the propellers, tS had to render and blend 100 frames. More frames, better blur and longer time to render.
For frame 10, for example, if you set the number of frames to 5, it probably renders and blends frames 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 (if you set blur length to x - unknown). It may render 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 or 4, 7, 10, 13 and 16.

Ok thanks Accu.
Jeff, how do you get soft body physics working? That's cool!

EDIT:

I'm making them on a conveyor belt! And with too much motion blur, it seems.
I didn't know tS7 could do soft body physics. I'm way behind.

Now that's cool Accu!
I did not know about soft body physics in 7.61 either;
I wonder if Jeff is using cloth physics for it. Nice.

Gears. Simple demonstration. They are not rotating as smoothly as I would like, but I think that is a product of my teeth design.

This is the original:

Yeah the original series in the 70's was much better than that sham of a program that ran on sci-fi. I watched all 5 years of it, but it was a waste of time.

What? You didn't like the remake? Sure, it's different but the story and acting is amazing. It's my all time favorite TV series, even after I saw the original.
I honestly have never heard from anyone that they didn't like it. Even my mum (who I persuaded to watch) liked it and she hates science fiction. ;)

Good idea with the gears:

I think I was lucky with these, I got them to work with physycs. I tried to make better ones but they wouldn't turn.

I guess you read my post wrong. I said I don't know the science. Geometry, math... angle of the teeth and stuff.

Google has a lot of images of gears.

http://www.maplesoft.com/SizedImages/im ... 64_280.gif

And this - http://assets.cambridge.org/97805218/15 ... 5178ws.pdf. :D

I recommend trying to model and animate these gears:

There's a cool program called eMachineShop that does gears, it does cad format exports like DXF, I usually export to Sketchup but in theory the should work in TS
Poly count is a bit scary though

Exporting to DXF and importing to tS does something that's not very useful, unless you want to use it for inspiration.

in sketchup you get a nice lines, I don't think SU8 has a DXF importer anymore..
if you export as igs then open in Carrara, but very limited to how much detail you can have and it needs welding

I started researching gear engineering for the sake of making gears.... here is a link to a pdf that explains an awful lot of the terminology and math.... http://www.bostongear.com/pdf/gearology ... apters.pdf

maybe the same reason I don't? I don't use or need workspace, 6.6 is faster and just seems to "fit", I don't gain anything by using 7.6 just a lot more clutter

After the shakey start I'm really surprised how well this challenge is going, thanks everyone :worship: :worship:

Thanks for this challenge topic Nigec. Thinking of things I could do for it inspired an idea for a short animation. Too much time needed for it to be a SMC or for me to do at all now but I'll do it sometime as a regular project. It will use my Splododyne devices to blow stuff up.

I almost don't use tS at all these days. Switching to 7.6 would take time, I have to learn "new tricks". :D
I know tS6.6 well enough for what I do. tS7.6 seems too complicated.

there are some tools in 7.6 that is not in 6.6, which is the main reason why I use 7.6 model side only, plus it seems a lot more stable than 6.6 was... (can't recall the list of new things in 7.6 though, will have to go search for that)
