Modelside Addon V1 for tS 7.6 (discontinued)

Here the new topic for my last version: vi ... 464#p45464


Hi all, i make this unofficial Modelside addon patch to upgrade the modelside of tS7.6, in first for my personnal usage, but i decided to share my work with all the trueSpace community and particularly for trueSpace 6.6 fans, this addon is concentrate for the modelside ( aka trueSpace 6), it's really for users that use only the modelside inside tS7.6 because it's the best version of the modelside, the modelside from tS7.61 B8 full have bug like the HDRi not saved in the file and maybe another troubles.



Working on Windows XP, 7, 8, 8.1


Major adds:

-Added PDF documentation for the modelside bundle with the official pdf and video files.
-Added the last unofficial update made by the members trueBlue and Clintonman from the community "United3dArtists.com".
-Added new "tS7.exe" file patched to use more than 4gb ram under 64bit system, because trueSpace is a 32 bit program and have limit of 4gb ram usage, this patch increase the ram memory usage available on your 64 bit system, you can find the original tS7 file no patched under the name "tS7.bak" just rename ".bak" in ".exe" to restore the original file name.
-Added the addon menu in the programs menu of windows, to have help links and uninstall link.
-Added all plugins and shaders available from internet with documentation. ( we are near to have all )



All these things in one install setup, need to be apply after the installation of trueSpace 7.6. ( tS76.exe )


If you want to use the Workspace side it can work but the better workspace version is inside tS7.61 B8 full or tS7.61 B8 Std.

Request: if you have some tsx plugins that not in the list, can you share them with me by PM, and after i will include them in the Addon.

Last word, if i forget to credit you in the txt file don't hesitate to contact me by PM, or if you don't want to see your plugins, shaders or other things inside this Addon, same thing contact me by PM.


This addon is a "use at your own risk", if you don't like it, don't install it, just install the official files show in united3dartists.com/forum section.

I'm working on the next addon, this time more content for the workspace side and few things for modelside because we have all we need for the modelside, also maybe i make a new installation setup file all in one with all updates included, the new name will be "Ultimate trueSpace" and the size setup file will be between 600 and 700 MB, of course all these things will depend of my free time, i can't give a date.

seppgirty: yes i want to add all plugins for the workspace like the modelside, but need to ask permission for include clinton plugins and others authors plugins of course.

I just updated and when trying to run TS I get the following error:

Then TS stops working and I have to close the program with the OK button
but if I close the message screen by clicking on the X TS continues to load.

JimB : Hi JimB, i have many times uninstall install truespace in all versions for my tests with the updates, i never encounter this problem, have you made a fresh install of truespace before applying the update patche ?

Yes I uninstalled TS and deleted the folder.

BTW I am using Windows 8.1 pro.

A more accurate sequence of events:
1 double click TS icon

2 Click ok on Memory Leak: 112bytes msg screen

3 Click the X (quickly) on Windows msg trueSpace has stopped working Close program

4 Click ok button on Windows msg "Error screen "Runtime error 216 at 00003124"

I was having the same error with TS6.6.

Check out the discussion here:

I had a problem with the Shady shader software. Once removed, problem gone, but this was for 6.6. Your issue may be a different plugin/shader.

Thanks Rhino169, Shader Magic indeed was the culprit I removed it and TS starts as normal. :)

I am wondering now if this is an error for those with Windows 8.1 and Shader Magic?

Mine happened in TS6.6 and JimB had it happen on TS7.6. :?:

I use WinXp, so I do not know win 8.1. Below there is the list of "ShaderMagic.tss" dependencies (System32/64 folder): do check whether on Win 8.1 something is lacking, expecially MSVCRT.DLL. Otherwise do try to install tS outside of "..\Program files" folder.

Me too i have win xp, maybe under Win 8 you need to check compatibility mod on win xp.

No it wont work in any mode while Shader Magic is present, as soon as I remove it TS works fine.

For fixing the memory leak (shadermagic) you must download and apply this patch ( 1.03 ) for shadermagic, normally the memory leak dialog box under windows 8 is gone.

The addon progress slowly, i have changed the name of the addon now it's "Modelside Addon", only for the modelside of tS76 and tS7.61 or the old tS 6 and tSi.

Here my last changelog:


-Added trueSpace Conversion pack 2.1
-Added two new window configs in configs folder: Four view.tsc and Default icons expanded.tsc for modelside.
-Added QuickCameras plugin made by Libor Stolc.
-Added tSxColourPicker 1.2, tSxCalculator 1.3.1, tSxtruder66 and tSxVxColorize 1.0 plugins by Fenerit in TSX folder.
-Added new shadermagic.tss file (fixed the memory bug leak and error dialog box after launching trueSpace under windows 8)
-Added TrueView by Nate Hayes.
-Added fcreator_333 by Urban Velkavrh
-Added redShift shader, it's a set of trueSpace image adjustment post-processing filters made by u|v Urban Velkavrh in shaders/material folder.

it's near to be done, but i have no time to make the new chm help that i want with images for the modelside ( with the new icons ), this will be the old help chm with no images but you can always found the images in the pdf files of course. i want to make a big chm with all tutorials taked on the web, but no time to do that :cry:

What is conversion pack 2.1? Is it the one that will save out to .b3d, md2, md3? If it is then can you post it as a stand alone?

seppgirty: ts conversion pack 2.1 can do "shockwave 3D export", "viewpoint export", "Autocad DWG import/export", "StereoLithography (STL) Format import/export", "Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) Format import/export" and last "ACIS SAT Format import/export"

Cellulo, just curious, and since you still continue at trueSpace, have you thought about contacting Microsoft to get the source code? I would be interested if there is a way to buy it free in the one or another way :)

Tiles: No i never thought to contact Microsoft for the source code ( what the address mail ? ), i think the better way it's to continu with the petition or make a new one, i don't know, but if we can have the source code from Microsoft, we need coders to check the source code, fix bugs and add new features, i hope in the future the source code can be released, but today Microsoft continu to use the trueSpace engine or no ?

I dunno. And i don't have an email adress for Microsoft neither. I guess i would start with mailing to the support and ask who to contact.

The petition way is dead from what i can see. Forget that one. Hundret people is simply not enough. There are minimum three zeros missing in that value. What is left is that really somebody starts to poke Microsoft if there is a way to get the source code. Or if Microsoft is willing to continue at trueSpace.

The biggest problem is the potential coders. But we have two or three persons here who could be able to pick up that one. And i guess once the code would be available they would pick it up. And be it just to fix some bugs.

Hmm, just for fun, i think i'll write a mail to the microsoft support now :D

Well, people should move to other software and use TS for the things it is best at while it still works on their systems. But ...

Petition: useless. Money: might work. If MS will sell it you could try some crowd funding like Kickstarter or Indiegogo to raise the money to buy it and fund the development effort. Buying it is still useless unless you already have programmers able to finish the project.

If you could do "TS Reloaded " I'd suggest creating a new application using the purchased TS code as a source of useful pieces of code and to learn how it is done rather than trying to fix it. Also, choose one TS side to develop (workspace or model) or merge the best features of both into one TS* ... no bridge, no split personality. You'll lose a group of earlier TS users either way since some only like workspace and others the original.

If you have funding you could get the latest Lightworks renderer.

Updating to directX 11 would be AWESOME. Or making an app like that... model in your game engine, that would be cool.

There are already a few approaches for Unity available, which can be found in the asset store. It has even its own category already. Game Toolkits - Modeling. Those plugins are of course not as powerful as a full 3D modeler, but primitive modeling and texturing is alreay possible.

People talk about getting the TS code but you did something Tiles. That's great! You tried to contact MS (I hope you get a positive reply).

If MS will sell TS and new owners make it open source that would be one way to get developers to work on it, maybe. In that case yes, a free renderer would be needed. I suggested the new Lightworks since these TS reboot dreams are based on wanting to keep what people liked about TS. That includes Lightworks and the model side. Remember, those who like the model side are also among the TS reboot crowd. TS + Lightworks would have to cost something at least to cover the LW license and starting expenses.

A rebooted TS would please only some of the people wanting it since some like model side and some like workspace.

That's what i have meant when i said this is not the way it works. Modelside code was already "busting at the seams". It had too much bottlenecks that prevented those changes. That's one of the reasons why Caligari started to develop the new version. The other reason was the collaboration vision. Also something that was impossible with the old code.

I highly doubt that we will get the modelerside code in the case of cases. The Lightworks license contract ended. And Lightworks will surely not open source their old render engine. And there are also other licenses like im- and exporters involved. So if even, my bet is that we would get the new code, the standalone version of 7.61. But when Microsoft has really used parts of it for Virtual world, then chances goes against zero. They will surely not give away that part of code then.

Still no answer btw ...

I didn't know the code was bad and getting worse. In that case it was time for a "nuke it and start over" approach for the whole thing. Besides, you can use lots of knowledge you gained along the way to do it better. When I was a programmer working on a combat model it was a patchwork of Fortran 66 ("fossil code") and Fortran 77 and C. The code was ok to good on the small scale but put together with little planning (called it "spaghetti"). We always wanted to redo it from scratch.

I see that team "TS Reboot" is focused on open source. That eliminates a new license for Lightworks (too bad, it is much improved and trueSpacers liked it). I was considering all possibilities such as crowd funding.

MS is very unlikely to sell any of it and they certainly aren't going to give anything away or make it open source. But why not try if you want to?

I'm not for these "reboot" schemes. Just learn other software. But I like TS too. It would have been great if Roman and team could have continued development as Caligari. But they couldn't ... Blender, Cararra, ...

I have begin to write the installation setup script in inno setup to make a proper install setup installation for my addon, for the moment it's for trueSpace 7.6, i have merged my modelside addon, the official pdf, video files merged with my new pdfman files, the unofficial update for tS7.6, the new file tS7.exe patched to use more than 4gb under 64 bit system, all Chikara Kojima's plugins that need password are already writed in the the windows registry base by the setup installation, all these features in one file ( 482 Mb compressed ) and with uninstall of course.

In fact to have a proper install of trueSpace 7.6, you need only to install "tS76.exe" in first and after launch my addon setup file in last, it can detect your trueSpace path installation, this complete installation of trueSpace 7.6 use 2 files instead of 5 files compared to the old installation.

As i say before this addon is concentrate for the modelside part, nothing new for the Workspace ( for the moment ), i will do the same thing for tS 7.61B8 and ts761Std.

Actually, i try to finish the setup installation and see if all is good, after that i will test the setup file under windows 7,8 and XP and later add the file on my homepage. Stay tuned !

I have added in the program menu of the addon where you can uninstall the addon, a link for the chm help file (tS65Help.chm) for the modelside aka trueSpace 6.6 because i found a bug with the help menu for the modelside, sometimes it's appear and sometimes disappear, it's very strange, there was few days i be capable to launch the help menu that call the tS76manual.html file and also the help chm file for the modelside because i can see two help menu in tS7.6, but now i can call only the tS76manual.html, tested with or without my addon :?: . I have created the new shortcut link to fix this problem.

I remember a plugin to create a Windows on 6.6 where you can put inside all the icons of the installed plugins. It was interesting when you have a lot of plugins. I don't remember his name and if it work on the model side of 7.6

I have decided to include the CGtalk library in my addon this will increase the size of the addon (packed:533 Mo unpacked: 1160 Mo) also i have updated the page of tips for motionstudio with more tips, originally writed by frank ladner.

Note about the addon, it's exe file but with uniextract program the exe file can be like a zip file, very easy to use with right-click menu on the file for people that don't like patch with setup installation, but one wrong thing this will break all chikara plugins that need password writed in the registry base of Windows because the setup installation script do this thing automatically, then you need to enter all passwords with the old method mouse right-clicking after loading the plugin.

BTW, that is also my way to backup all the tS 6.6 folders (zip, no exe in my case). Of course are backed up the .txt with the serials and I can assure CK works fine with such a method. Even some plug-in shipped with the installers works without to re-install them.

Draise only 6 chikara plugins need password to unlock limitations, of course all passwords are in txt file in their respective plugins folders inside the addon if you use the installation setup of the addon no need to write the passwords for chikara plugins the setup installation do that for you, but if you use the universalextract program to grab the files manually like a zip file this will break my script that write the passwords code in the registry base, this method with universalextract program is for people that have knowledge with trueSpace files and it's warning i want to say for they. I hope this will explain better my previous post and not make confusion :) .

Fenerit: Me too i do zip file for all things about trueSpace, but my addon setup installation make the life simpler.

The installation setup is for newcomers and beginner like me in trueSpace 7.6 Modelside. They will find a easy setup installation of trueSpace ready to work and no need to search plugins,shaders on the net, all we need for the modelside are already in the addon.

I don't want upload several files in different compression format (zip,rar, etc..) on my homepage with the same content due to the big size of files and in the futur maybe i upload some caligari videos tutorials to have archive video tutorials.

For the moment, i try to include more tutorials and examples files for the modelside in the addon, this is the last step before the release.

New size of the ModelSide Addon : 617 Mo ( packed ) and 1740 Mo ( Unpacked ).

-Added some useful freeware programs in Utils folder.

I have removed the CGtalk 3d objects library and some freeware to keep a good size for the addon, now it's 512 Mo (packed) and 1 Go (unpacked) for the installation setup,

I will begin my tests under XP, 7 and 8, and after that, the addon will be available on my homepage this week. One year to make this addon :o , now it's the end line. :bananaclaus:

Hi Cellulo; my 2-cents about your noteworthy task: plugins/help and shaders/help are tools with small filesizes, whereas objects and tutorials are libraries/help with big filesizes explecially whether in video format. My suggestion is to prepare different downloadable packs for the latters two. Freeware programs also, as a third pack. In this way the main tS pack will keep more or less the same size and much more "under your control", imho.

Fenerit, i have removed some other files that not very important, now the addon is light 448 Mo ( 853 Mo unpacked ), i keep only essential things for the addon, i think i have found the good balance, all files removed will be available in separate download or in the next version of the addon when i will found the time to do that the next year.

Thanks for your many months of hard work on this. (and also to all those who helped along the way)

I have it downloaded but not installed yet until I finish getting stuff backed up.

You should edit your first post with an update/ note /date so that people know that it's new (it has a 2013 date on it) ... or make a new post with the link.

The version 2.0 of the addon coming really soon, i have successfully merged my addon and trueSpace 7.6 in one setup file installation after some change in my install script of the setup installation, i need to finish some little things and make new testing, after that the Version 2.0 will be ready to download on my homepage. I know there was a few days i have put online the addon Version 1.0 but this time i found the good way in the install script, now trueSpace 7.6 is really for Modelside (aka trueSpace 6.6) users.

Here the last change for the Version 2.0:

Setup file installation size 565 Mo ( unpacked : 1 180 Mo ):

-Now the Modelside addon patch is bundled with Caligari trueSpace 7.6 in one setup file installation.
-By default trueSpace start directly in the Modelside view with all icons expanded.
-Added SceneExplorer.tsx plugin (beta) in "tsx/Interface" folder, made by designDevil.
-Added ObjectList.tsx plugin in "tsx/Interface" folder, made by Libor_Stolc.
-Also include all contents from the previous addon patch v1.0.

Last thing the default modelside view have no plugins loaded due to the preferences of the futur users, only default icons are expanded at the startup.
