Where you from?
Some people don't put information of your country here, my objective is posting know if I can encounter other Brazilian or just know where you from to talk about related thing of your region. I also need to change my avatar pic, I just need to create/find some art that symbolize me and take away that Brazil map, it's just a temporary thing. I don't want to know really where you are located, just which is your country! Of course it will not influence anything, here we want to share knowledge and enthusiasm!

Re: Where you from?
I am writing this post in a bit chilly Sweden where winter is rapidly approaching. The most northern parts already has snow and they threatens that we will see our first snow here (in the middle) this weekend.... it is hard to believe that only a month ago we had +21 degree Celsius and sun.
This autumn has really gone fast - but we still has beautiful colours in the trees. I hope that the forecast for the weekend are wrong and that we will have some sun so that I can go out and get some shots of these trees.

Re: Where you from?
I second spyfrog about being chilly in Sweden (my adopted country).
I drove my wife to the airport today in a snow storm (and its only October!) She's going to a meeting in Washington (US) where it is at least 20 degrees(C) warmer! And this is when we still have the Gulf Stream -maybe its stopped again like it did a couple of years ago
¨
But somebody in our family (not me!) wisely had snow tires fitted yesterday. (Grew up in Northern England when the winters used to have lots of snow -just like Sweden -so I really have just returned to my childhood home!

Re: Where you from?
This forum shows the reality of the world! Great and developed countries give more opportunities for that the population has a good degree and be well cultured... Anyway I try to swim upstream, I'm not rich but try to discover things and curiosity is something that even poor person needs to have, the problem is that the TV for masses discourage it...

Re: Where you from?
Connecticut originally, Farmington and West Hartford, but roamed the state a lot for many years, lived after that in New Hampshire, and Cape Cod, a while in Rhode Island at the beaches, then moved to Arizona, where I have been since 1986. Not a pretty place here except in the mountains, and no ocean, argh.... but at least I can ride a motorcycle year round!
Here's mine!
I do miss the ocean though... here is an old pic of my dad's 62 foot yacht (with twin Mercedes Diesels... an old prohibition rum-runner!) we used to go out on when i was growing up. I loved the dinghy too, a 13'.3' Boston Whaler with a 50 Merc (transom stands and water skiing pairs!

Re: Where you from?
Born in Paris, Texas. Lived there and in Woodland nearby. Wet and green and hot and humid.
Moved to Phoenix, Arizona for a year when I was a kid. City, very hot, not humid (back then).
Then moved here to southern New Mexico. Desert and mountains. Much variety, wilderness, and wildlife. Not many people (too many for me). Hot and not humid in the desert. More of my family moved here too. I also was here as a toddler when my parents lived here. In my town 100F to 110F (43C) most Summers, 81F (27C) today, record low -3F (-19C).

I didn't know there were a Paris, Texas. For a long time ago I saw a movie of the director Wim Wenders with a movie title: Paris, Texas and didn't realize it was a real place. Wonderful music in that movie. I have it on a old vinyl record.

Re: Where you from?
I have no meaning of having a political debate about right or wrong in this thread and I have been thinking a lot of posting. Maybee the tscommunity isn't the right place for this but this is, for now, the place I have communication with peoples in US and other parts of the world. There is now a lots reporting of Obamas new healthcare ideas in US i swedish press and TV. I'm just curios about how you sitizens of the US are thinking.
As I wrote in another forum: It's important to comunicate to understand each other.
This is my country with free healthcare from an American wiew. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-a ... rome-pt--2.
As a comment to that funny movie.
I don't understand the big debate in US about free healthcare for everyone. I think it's a right to have free healthcare. I became ill for a couple of day ago. I woke with a beehive in my head and dizziness. The next day I went to the hospital and they did an aduologic examinating of my ears for one hour. It cost me $13. Yesterday i meet a doctor, cost me $18, and got medicin. I am now on a sickleave for the next week with 80% of my salary. (And I now have a beautiful swedish girl massaging my shoulder (just kidding)) The maximun cost for a year consulting a doctor are $130. Over that sum the visits are for free. The maximum cost for one years medicine are max $250. This means that the aim is that everyone can go to a doctor for medical care and treatment with medicin.
The goovernment has put these fees becuse they will restrict the visits to the doctors because they dont want peoplee consulting the doctor for minor things which they could take care of themselves.

Re: Where you from?
I'm not an american, but I also have opinion... First of all, I think here is not a good place to discuss politics and related things to it, however here we have smart and understandable guys that I'm also curious to know their opinion, so I'm just alerting and asking for a harmonic debate and not a fight.
I live in a third world country, nowadays we call it in developing country to make less impact. Even having a precarious health system that can't attend everybody, if you break an arm you go at the hospital and leave with your arm in plaster waiting to heal. But if you live in USA, break an arm and don't have a health plan or your health plan don't cover it, well, you need to pay something that you can't afford, so you need to the bank and withdrawn your son's university savings to just fix his arm. That's not right! Hey just to let you know, I'm not specialist or know a lot about american health system, so maybe I'm telling something wrong, sorry. Conclusion: Even a poor country provides a cheap and functional health, but of course you can buy a health plan here if you don't want to be in government hands, thing that might be good.
What Obama wants is just end of this thefts and bring health to the poor, I don't see any problem with it. But somehow americans see, they call he Nazist, Communist, ie, the worst names of nowadays, but without basement. I know that he threw lots of money to Wall Street, but if he didn't it, million of jobs would be lost and the crises definitively take control, I think he did a good choice...
Tommy, here is the only place that I have communication with abroad folks too and I'm happy with that...
I also think is better open another thread, because this is about locations.

Re: Where you from?
I agree about free healthcare, and that it should be available to all. But, one misconception with everyone I have talked to about it is Free. There is no such thing, everyone pays for it, it is just who you are paying. Right now we are paying the middleman insurance companies, who are trying to make a profit. Obama is not getting rid of that, he is trying to regulate it, and add a cheap and affordable option for people that don't have insurance, but he is still going to charge them, and the rest of us for it. A lot of this is needed in a corrupt system, but a lot of people worry about where it is going to lead.
For the bailout money to all the large corporations: It goes against a free capital system, when a company struggles and eventually falls it leaves a gap for a new company that will fill the holes, and pick up the workforce that was displaced. IF you bailout out the people that screwed things up in the first place, what are you fixing.. You may be savign a few jobs now but you are keeping the same screwups in power to make the same (Or new) greedy mistakes. if you let teh company fall and a new company with new people fill the wholes they grow based on things they are doing well, and they learn from their predecesors mistakes. Who is to say which way is right, they both have their benefits and disadvantages.

Sorry but there are and always has been three topics that should be avoided at a "Graphics"
Site.
Politics, Religion and Sex
It almost always turns opinionated, people start taking sides, and most of the time long winded users appear.
We just don't need that here. There are tons of sites that discuss this stuff. This stuff occasionally
came up at the Caligari site and not one good Rendering or friendship came out of it.
In the end it is your choice, this is just my opinion.

hey guys, my name is joe and i'm from pittsburgh, Pa. united states. i'm here to break the cycle of debate
i'm getting married next week on oct 31 2009(it's going to be a helloween wedding) as you can see by my signature down below i do short films and stuff like that. if you go to my website and watch the site seeing with sakki videos you'll see some stuff we do here in pittsburgh like parades and festivals.... i think it would be fun if others on the board would post videos and pics of what they do in there towns. i've never seen places like spain or england or such....Just an idea...... Now I got to agree with the others about discussing things like politics, religion, and sex. There is a time and place for discussing those topics. May be we should start a (LETS START A RIOT) section on the U3dA boards

Congrats Joe! It's a good idea to post videos and pics of the location.
About the ''hot'' debates I don't know if would be good do that... But we don't need to open another section we already have the General Discussion, at the max open a subsection in the general discussion...
Cya
Edit: Replying to Kart... Good point of view
I think that if Obama allowed big companies to die in the middle of crises none other company would fill that huge hole and the hole could stay there for many years and many people without job, because a crises is like a snow ball, what Obama did was turn the snow into ice and then don't increase the snow ball, understand? This is an unusual age, it's not his fault... but is sad that the money that the american citizens give to the government need to be applied to Wall Street

A teacher gives the class an assignment to write a story. They have the whole class period to do it. The only requirement is that it must have elements of sex, religion, politics, and mystery. One student thought for a minute or two, wrote for only a few seconds, and approached the desk to turn in his paper. The teacher thought the student just didn't care about his grade but then he read, "Oh my God! The queen is pregnant! Who's the father?"

About Volvo and Saab. The swedish government has been very reductant to give these car factories economical support. I don't know if they are on the market at the end of the year. Maybee Saab are gone but I still believe Volvo is on the market.

Why waste tax payers money to save an industry that is going to move to Asia? We tried that with the wharf industry (building ships) and it didn't work. As long as we have the current regime of extreme free trade, we will continue to see production move to the cheapest place - it is a race towards the bottom.Tommy wrote:About Volvo and Saab. Yes, I think the goverment had learn the lesson of the wharf industry. We were rather large at that industry before Japan took, in the 70-ties, over the lead with low labour costs. There is almost nothing left of the wharf industri here in Göteborg. Volvo took over as an major employerer here. If Volvo disappears there will be others industries which will grew. This is result of free trade.
We are a small country about 9 million habitants. I think it's very fun to see what other peoples apprehension of my country are. I took Jon Stewart's video for what it is: a funny and amuzing movie about Sweden.
As you all in this community: you like the country you live in and the most of you will not move to another country.
That's how it is. The place there you are born, grown up and live in are your favorite place.
Sometime it's good to step out of the situation you are in and look at it from an outside wiev. You will learn a lot of it.

I hope that before I die I know almost all Earth... preferably before global warm destroy some landscapes.

Glider are the best, se this beautiful movie about soaring http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x43hte ... ight_sport. I have experience flights like this and they are fantastic.
I am with the airplane and my body fells like streaching out at the wing tips, the beauty of nature and I am only using the nature force of solar power. In this moments I am in real heaven.

Leonriegis you have the whole world to experience.
I will say from my own experience: then you have been out in the world for a while you will feel very, very good to be home again. For me it's Sweden and for you it's Brazil.
It's good too be out in the world, and it's also good to have a place there you feel at home, because you got another wiev on your way of living and this experience are very good for your own life.

I too don't recommend political, religious and what is the other one. . . ah yes sex discussions here. Some forums place that in it's own place so some folks can go at it. Now if there is a good political 3d created scene/art (in good taste, well as much as possible considering politics), 3d scenes of religious shrines etc.. while not pimping anything I think would be ok. When I am here I could care less what political, religious, sexual orientation you are where we meet on common ground of being artists first.

Re: Where you from?
I aggree with it, when it gets out of hand. But being such a diverse group from so many countries, the political points of view can be interesting to here, as long as people keep a level head and realize that a point of view is just that, a point of view.
In most forums I would worry that a conversation along these lines would get way out of hand resulting in hurt feelings and ego's. But, with the people that I have come to know here, I did not have much of a worry about that. It seems the people that post here are mature intelectual people, that can have heated discussions and still come away as friends in the end.

Anyone got a few million to spare?
Anyone have a few million to spare?
back in the mid 1600's, a notable bastard by the name of Cromwell came to Ireland on behalf of the Brittish Crown, and slaughtered over 1500 of my ancestors there, men women and children, even dragging them out of churches where they ran for sanctuary, and beheading them all in the streets.
The O'Dwyer Clan wasn't very popular with the Crown as you can see, lol. These were my ancestors, I am the decendant of 27 Kings, one of whom built and owned the following property which is now up for sale in Ireland, being finally sold by the Brittish (Sothebys Fine Properties) at long last.
Cromwell tried and failed to burn this castle to the ground, but succeeded in detroying 7 others belonging to my Clan.
Killenure Castle, Dundrum, County Tipperary, Ireland
http://william-montgomery.com/properties/killenure.htm
So, if anyone can spare the trifle of 3,750,000 Euros / 5,550,003 U.S. dollars, I would be most appreciative!

Re: Where you from?
I have to renew this topic with this movie how to build a hotel of ice and snow:
http://www.webbkameror.se/film/bennyekm ... l_2008.php
This hotel are located north of Sweden
http://www.icehotel.se/uk/ICEHOTEL/
Due to the global heating this november has been the hottest month during the 20th century here in Sweden. It seems as in south of sweden we will never see a snowstorm any more. I miss it: the white snow outside the window and the quetness which follows with the snow. And somethimes -20 centigrades degree mornings with clear blue sky. Now it's just rain, rain and rain.

it is so cool to be able to post greetings to someone from Johannesburg, South Africa! you might want to put yourself and South Africa on the map, so to speak, and follow this link from spacekdet:

i never in my wildest dreams would have imagined people from so many parts of the world use trueSpace. until i wrote my first post on the forum very recently i had never communicated with anyone outside of the usa. my world has opened up significantly since then.
many thanks once again, leonRegis, for starting this topic.

Re: Where you from?
It's great over here! Sunny weather 90% of the year, average about 23-28 Celsius in the summer, Johannesburg is known as the Forest City, you can hardly see any buildings in most of it, lots of wild life reserves with animals but only in remote country side rural areas, the rainbow nations with many cultures (11 official languages!) ... love it here :)
I see I'm not the only one in Africa at least, Michael A is up in Ghana ;)

Re: Where you from?
Leonregis what do you mean with "Meanwhile, rich man enjoy the last good years on Earth. Dammit!" I'm interested.
I believe in that every living humans on the earth has the right to live on the same standard of living. The earth can't sustain the western world living standard and we humans (my thoughts) are destroying the earth. I think and believe that we in the Westen world has to reduce our living of standard. The most important thing that are that our politicans can't agree to decide how to do that. I can buy vegetables from Africa to give the sellers in africa a decent income or buy it from a nearby producer. What shall I do? I want all farming and living people in the third world to bee healthy, live on their income and have a good life.
The most important thing are education, health care and a work of some sort.
I have been, as I think, lucky to be born in Sweden, a country there is a belive that the society has to take care of the poorer people. We have free education and nobody have to be starving. We have the worlds highest income taxes but I don't care because I want everyone in our country should live on a decent living standard.
Maybee i have been too political again. Excuse me a lot !!! My only curious thoughts are what do you mean Leonregis?
I hope your not offended. Sweden are not at all heaven on earth as I bescribe it.

Re: Where you from?
I just said that now, who have money are enjoying the world (traveling, seeing things) that in the future will disappear by the climate changes. I didn't mentioned anything about standard of living and income... however I have the same point of view of you.

Re: Where you from?
As a human beeing amongst 6 billion others I feel i have no possibilites to do an influence on global heating. I do what I can do prehent the heating but I feel it's not enough. For now I have a work with my students about global heating. The Copenhagen meeting are near there the politicals are deciding what to do. I have showed my students that will happend if we don't do nothing. My students, who lives in the western world, are scared about the future. Allmost everyone of my students have the opinion that we all have to do something and I think and hope it's good for the future.

Re: Where you from?
But that is where the whole problem lies, Tommy.
How many of those 6 billion are the decision makers and how many control the factories?
Now how many of those 6 billion USES the goods from the factories and VOTE for those decision makers?
The everyday people like you and me cause the demand that the decision makers must cater for so if every individual makes a conscious choice to live green (http://www.simplygreen.co.za" / http://eco-logicalliving.com" ), we can have 6 billion actions against global heating and pollution. If people raise their voice, decision makers have to listen... If people don't buy products that cause a lot of pollution and global heating, factories have to change how they do it or make other products...
Every person can and must make the difference, otherwise decision makers will follow what people want to keep them popular and factories make what gives them the most money...

I agree with the discussion, in the aspect that, everyone has a right to live comfortably. But,. what is comfortable. What should people be entitled to for nothing.
Ohh if we lived in a perfect world without, greed, corruption and lazy people the world would be green peaceful and lovely.

Re: Where you from?
I agree, but our leaders should protect us from the climates changes, but they also want to protect us from recessions and economic problems... however they are doing more than this, our economy was growing it's a good thing? In some aspects not. If we was growing in a sustainable way, this crises would not happen and the giant crises that are coming (global heating) will not happen. The problem is that most leaders have just eyes to the economy and not in the future because for them the future is a good economy, but why we should mind with economy if in the future we won't have food, water, our cities underwater, natural disorder (because of extinctions of predators and prey.
But what I hate most is who says that global warming isn't caused by humans, and it's a natural thing... well, is a natural thing, we wouldn't be here if global warm doesn't exists but we are launching billions of CO² particles in the atmosphere, and even if it doesn't causes nothing to global warm, causes thing to people health. I read something that the pollution (CO², other chemicals and combustion waste) will kill more than 1.000.000 (of course I don't remember exactly the number, but is much more than this) in whole world, but principally in the poor countries that the rich ones use as factory, including Brazil. Luckily I live in a clean area.
They say that the ocean will raise, yes will... but scientist always converge how many. but I can say to you that until 2100 will be more than 3 meters for sure! Arctic doesn't make any difference because he is floating, but it will affect the entire ecosystem! If all Antarctica melts you should leave Manhattan and Miami, do you know how to move more than 15.000.000 people? But Antarctica is to stable (even being to stable to melt completely it is melting) so we are free? Nope, we have the Greenland problem and it is just aside USA, and have almost the same quantity of ice of Antarctica, oh and it's melting too fast!
You should keep doing the tiny difference... but also need to contact your leaders to do the same but in another level of difference, or even be your leader (but is a more difficult way). Well, now is just wait to see what will happen in Copenhagen
Hope it not happens

Oups!! not the same. If Greenland melted completely, sea level rise of 7 meters! If Antarctica melted completely, sea level rise of 57 meters! and huge iceberg begins to separate from the continent.leonregis wrote: we have the Greenland problem and it is just aside USA, and have almost the same quantity of ice of Antarctica, oh and it's melting too fast!
