Damn I start doing a bike, but now I see that it is a bicycle

I curious to know why do you NOT want to do a "futuristic" bicycle?
This is one of my three favorite things.
Walt Disney, a Bicycle and a #2 Pencil.
All three things made my life enjoyable.

No Steinie you get wrong. I said that I was doing an futurisc BIKE (with engine, etc) and the contest it's a bycicle (with pedals), understand?

I think it is a language thing. "I'll need to leave the contest" means that you will not have any entry in the contest. I think you meant that your motorcycle, with engine, can't be an entry because it isn't a bicycle.
So, Steine, and most readers, wonder why you don't just start another project to make a bicycle for the MMC. (Do your motorcycle also just not for this MMC).

got i nice idea for an interesting bicycle... might get some time over the weekend to start working on it... not sure what scene setting I'll be using though, maybe rock desert forest landscape or something...
leonregis, i'm sure with some imagination you will be able to convert the bike design into a bicycle one, shouldn't be too difficult ;)

I wouldn't worry about that stuff and just design your scene. The Futuristic
Bicycle in a race is the main focus I believe. Participation is much more important.

Hi pugman 1, good question... exactly like Steinie said... :)
I'm not good with characters and figures either, but since the theme is about BICYCLES and not the riders, you can have a block man or a pre-made figure that comes with trueSpace...
I can add that to the rules of the competition for us... I usually use a little blockman for characters in scenes like this little fellow below...

you can make a man schematized with rods and spheres in place of articulation. this could be useful to show the ergonomics of the bicycle. Only if ergonomics is important in your design.pugman 1 wrote:Hi do the bikes have to have riders on them??

Re: MMC 2009-12 'Futuristic Bicycle Race' - comments
You don't need to have a rider but I think it would look unrealistic if you have a bunch of bicycles in a race without any riders...
The MMC is about a 'scene', not just an object like in SMC, a plain mannequin would do fine like those block men I did, they are only rectangles, not even spheres or cylinders that take up a lot of polygons...
It's up to you though...

Re: MMC 2009-12 'Futuristic Bicycle Race' - comments
Would all the guys who are entering please post your WIP thread in the 'challenge' thread?
Leonregis and I have posted there that we are entering with my WIP link (here is my WIP thread... vi ... f=5&t=1148" )
It would make it easier to see who is entering because it gets lost here in the comments thread...
anyways, here is the idea...
Bicycle concept:
two extra large wheels next to each other, slightly inclined towards each other at the top with rider sitting "inside" the wheels to peddle with both hands and feet... almost like the monocycle motorbike with the guy sitting inside the wheel rim...
Scene setting:
desert scape with rolling rock balls, petrified trees, fissures and sink holes, sand sharks and Impaler avions (from my very first SMC entry in August 2008)
Not sure if the bicycles will have the Mad Max theme with weapons loaded on it; old arms though, like swords, axes, maces, pikes etc... modern weaponry would be too heavy for man powered vehicles like bikes...

Won't be able to join this one but wishing you all the best fun
pugman 1 - if you need a male (or female for that matter) I can offer you the one I have created (you can learn a Lot from trying to make a human. It's organic, and inorganic. Interesting stuff). It's up to you to pose him. Also have one that comes with zbrush. Generic, and you fix to suit.
Hmm, don't know if that's considered cheating, but, whatever. I offered.

Re: MMC 2009-12 'Futuristic Bicycle Race' - comments
Naw, as mentioned before, the focus of the theme is the future bicycle race, not the rider... I am amending the rules to allow a premade character for a rider if so desired... organic is more tricky to model than organic, so to keep the focus on main theme, it is allowed...
Dragneye, i would be interested in getting some characters myself if you are willing to share ;) perhaps I could learn a thing or two about organic character modeling myself ;)

I'm out because I'm with creative block and make progress with my other WIP, so don't want to risk my other WIP for something that I barely have an idea to start.
Sorry

I am running low on ideas for this one. I am hoping something hits me soon and motivates me to start. I will start a wip as soon as I get an idea that gets me started.

Re: MMC 2009-12 'Futuristic Bicycle Race' - comments
here are some ideas...
make it anywhere you want, on desert landscapes, arctic icebergs, vertical mountain cliffs, orbiting space station wheels, moon surfaces... It can be a classic race, a Mad Max death race type, Star Wars race pod style, Cannon Ball run mayhem, Middle ages jousting tournaments... One or more riders, maybe five riders on a bike... riding, flying, floating, skiing... whatever you want...
one wheel bikes like the one i've made below... normal 2 wheel ones with wind shields like a motorbike or next to each other... three or four wheel ones... sitting inside the rim like my designs, sitting behind or even next to the wheels [that gives me an idea i wanna try ;) ] ...
remember that this is the future, so size and weight is not a problem, you don't even have to figure out how it might work, just focus on the look... it doesn't even need spokes because it could use super conducting magnets or something...
just start with some wheels and arrange them around to make it look interesting, then add a frame and build from there...

From my time zone, it is another 10 hours until midnight, not sure if anybody is from the eastern part of the world like Asia or Australia, so I won't close it exactly at midnight my time, only about 8 hours after that so if you still need to make last minute changes, go for it ;)
