I have to work late tonight, so I won't be able to check the status
of the server. I can make an impromptu announcement.
Not sure what the time zones are, for the folks who are interested.

What time do you want to start it?

Tonight I will probably take the server down, and do some cleanup, to make sure we have a nice clean slate
for tomorrow night. trueBlue and 3dvisuals dude have been helping me test various things, which resulted
in some great results, and also, some aborts. Sorry 3dv! He got logged off a few times last night. I think it
was because of the windmill and the timer inside it.

I'm not sure when I will be home tomorrow night but please

As a note, 3dv demonstrated some of his Very Very cool stuff in progress.
As a result, I understand his approach and viewpoint on this, much better now.

We confirmed that we can run scripts on the server. Last week Cayenne and pugman saw a cube move, as a result of server script execution,
though 3dv did not. I took a different approach, which seemed to work better. I was not moving a cube however.
Rather, I was displaying text on an LED. I used components from trueBlue and (I believe) ProfessorKaos. Specifically,
trueBlue's Avatarname node, and ProfessKaos's LED display. It still needs work: I actually activated the timer on the windmill node
before 3dv entered the trigger which grabs the avatar name and feeds it to the server-executed script.
(Believe me, this is a lot easier to understand if you study the scene in the LE, than reading my text here).
I will be cleaning it up, so it won't be ready for use Thursday. Nonetheless, it Did work.

So where am I going with this?

Well, in 2007, a small group of us were working on server scripting to access a mysql database and display data in 3D space.
Since this is pretty much working, I will be reinstalling mysql on my machine, and using the visual basic scripts from back then,
for use in FrooSpace. I'd like to display user stats, like name, # of visits maybe, that sort of thing.

Hey guys, I need a crash course I am trying to remember how to connect to someone's shared space. Ok i am in the "Network" box in TureSpace, I see the "NetProperties" box and a "Scala3D" box. Which box do I add the IP address and port number too. Sorry guys it's been way too long since i have done this and i am an old man so please forgive me but dang I have forgotten how to connect, or can someone point me to the documentation on where this is disccussed. Man I want to get back into this stuff.

argh, I just managed to get to the computer and missed this. well. I will drop in there tomorrow earlier i guess.

on the database / server-side scripting, there are many cool new ways this capability can be applied in OurSpaces, now that Froo got it working for us all.

one of the ways it can be used is "smart guides," human models who guide you through a scene, like a tour conductor or museum curator, explaining the things you see as your avatar draws near to each (which it is aware of as you do). Such "virtual guides" and "virtual tour conductors" are in use in Europe now, and it is possible to make them know each avatar by name as well as what types of scene items each avatar prefers based on past tours, all stored in the database which the "tour conductor" has access to instantly via these methods.

cool stuff with lots of potential!

my favorite, is the zoo where the animals know the kids visiting by their names and greet them by name accordingly!

I may not make it but the spaces are open!
I do not have a lot there at the moment, since the stuff I am
working on is experimental and may cause system instability.
However, I do have a link to 3dv's QuinSpace in port 1109.
Just click the link in the linkbar in the 3dspace to get there.
It's at port 1110. Very Cool!

As a note, I was working with mysql database access last night;
almost have that figured out. It worked before, but some things
have changed.

studying all i can find about shared space and the LE and everything else related.

Well, me I slept through the meeting time again, lol, that makes two days in a row. hopefully i can wake in time for friday night (tonight), i do want to be there and am working on several related things, some of it commercial marketing contacts.

we may not have DX9 for more than three years, time will tell, but in the meantime making several hundred dollars a day for three hours a day work is not bad I think, that's what I'm shooting at anyhow, success is such sweet revenge!

I believe the shared spaces only work with 7.61 beta. Are you using that?

The space booted me out for a while, but seems to be working again.

I hope you don't mind Froo, while I was waiting for some folks I whipped up a quick little moon phase calculator. Feed in the desired date, and it will tell you the moon phase and change the shadowing on the moon object.

For a while...it almost felt like the good old days.

I can't check it since I am still at work.
It seemed to be ok earlier today. Not sure what's going on.
The computer is acting flaky again though. We had yet another
power outage last night. That could be causing some issues.

In my honest opinion I think we should all regroup with using Shared Space. First not many users here even show up. Second there are many times it was announced by someone not showing up themselves. Third, Mark was one of the biggest supporters of Shared Space then disappeared without even saying goodbye. Fouth, it is a workSpace environment and most trueSpace users here only use the Model side. Fifth, it never has been used for one of it's main strengths. Modeling done by more then one person at the same time.
I totally agree that having a get together is fun but there should be more to it.
Did anyone get voice to work again?
Has anyone tried a joint modeling project yet?
How about a modeling class?
I recall a way to show the trueSpace interface in truePlace, can that still be done? That would be a big help when showing tools used.
