Sounds like fun. So to clarify, create an underground scene, but does it have to be contained to a cube area? Maybe I miss read that.
I have some ideas already, will get started on this.

Steinie, Theuns, Moondog great to have you in !
To clarify it should be contained in a cube like shape not so important if the sides are equal in length just that you
show it in a regular containment. Plus if you got some tubes that stick out a little bit that doesnt matter either.....
its like Steinies plattform idea just going under ground
something like this.....
But most of your renders can come from inside no reason to show the cube in those renders...
Its just that all have the same level of difficulty.....

As much as I would love to join in on the fun this month it's just not possible. I am traveling again soon and I can't install any software on my work laptop so I can't do any modeling unless I bring my personal laptop and that's just crazy talk!
Best of luck to everyone this month. I will be following along as best I can.

Pugman i hope you will find your subject... there are lots of possibilities ..
think of what you always wanted to render asnd take that to under a surface.....
If its a car ..... put it into an underrground parking lot ..... if its a plane under the deck of an aircraftcarrier..
I will start on working on mine today so you will be able to see some from my side..

Although I freelanced my own version of "Underground", my favorite underground of all time was in Champagne, France.
Or I should say the caverns near Champagne France and they gave us free samples.

Re: MMC Feb 2010 " Under - ground " comments
Unless everyone is almost finished this might be reason for a two month MMC...?
I would like to see more entries/participation also. In my case I could easily finish
this one but would like more time to make it better. I have no problem whatever you
guys decide.

For now I just did the cave, the pickaxe and some things into the mine. I'll not finish if it don't be extended...

Ok so there is no objections I will follow Steinies idea and suggest the next deadline to be the same day only one month after the old deadline so you will all get one month more time to finish and some more people to join in. So this will be a 2 month contest as steinie suggested.
March 22 nd and end of voting poll will be end of the month.

Maybe 2 months should be the new standard for contest time (except SMC). A lot of people have less time to devote to these things now due to money/jobs/economy or the demise of TS (learning other software) or whatever. Especially the animation contest since animation takes more time.

Could be an idea to discuss.I´m open for it. Anyway with only one entry so far I couldnt go for a shorter period this month anyhow.....and Feb is very short

So is it settled then? I started mine last night, which was going to prevent me from doing a WIP until I was finished.

Yes keep going! We need more entries and I like watching how you will do yours with Max.
I wasn't sure what the outcome would be for extending the deadline so I worked late one
night to finish. Now everyone can spend the proper amount of time on theirs.
No reason for anyone to say "no time"
Now who else will join us?
Thanks Peter for extending. A two Month deadline makes more sense for the MMC and Animation
Challenges.

Re: MMC Feb 2010 " Under - ground " comments
Well after rereading the rules...DUH, I still have two more renderings to do.
"One outside and two inside"
That is ok since I like this months Challenge and the other entries so far. Sets me back on the Animation project though. More Coffee!!!
RJeff needs two more too in case he too didn't notice.
Thuns, 800x600 is the max resolution allowed. One of yours is much larger. You might want to link to it. (People with smaller monitors would have to scroll to see it)
So we still have more work to do!

Re: MMC Feb 2010 " Under - ground " comments
Why is 800x600 the smallest allowed anyway? That is like a post card on my monitor and it is an obsolete standard these days. I think there should at least be the option for higher res. renders as long as there is a smaller version.

Finis is correct in that you can link to a larger resolution. We need to think
about others with smaller monitors or dial-up. When everyone post their renderings
in one thread it can be a burden for some. I want everyone to be able to enjoy this site.
If you decide to start your own thread with your artwork, you can post any resolution you like.
If you decide to do an animation please post it at youtube with a link here.

the idea is to put this into a cube with the entrance on top so my suggestion would be to make the rest of the room (other side) and make a staircase down
from a top level you then hve 2 more views.....
