MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
What I have in mind for this scene is a post apocalyptic cave village where people are hiding from deadly sun rays after a catastrophic event (nuclear/massive meteor etc.) makes surface dwellings impossible... the village will be made of wood and leather and vines since they are back to middle ages technology...
Will come up with the scene layout first (maybe some sketches) and flesh it out as I go along...

Thenus, Bryce works well, howerver it does not transfer the textures, if you texture in TS. So I you were to use Bryce then texture it in Bryce. Bryce does some good things. I think it does sunlight real well.

Re: MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
Which is better in you opinion, Bryce or Vue? Because I'm considering getting Vue Pioneer Scifi module for the same price I got Bryce 6.3 ($49)

I´m cant say better because they have a different look to them but i personlly prefer Vue.
If you ever could get the money together try to get esprit.
it lets you import because its got the import module to it....
It even lets you import animations from Ts via Collada and also supports cob file.

Re: MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
I have bought Vue 6 Easel and downloaded Vue 7 & 8 Pioneer free versions but they have watermarks on their renders which makes them pretty useless. I know the new Vue lets you do caves and rock overhangs and things like that as well... but I don't know which one gives you the best renders like those awesome "photo like" pics some of their users can make, but I guess thats just the Vue Infinate and xStream versions that can do that and they are WAY too expensive for a hobbyist like me...

Re: MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
Thats the great missunderstanding that many people here have ! In fact Vue 8 esprit is the same render engine that Inf and stream uses you get the same quality.theuns wrote:I have bought Vue 6 Easel and downloaded Vue 7 & 8 Pioneer free versions but they have watermarks on their renders which makes them pretty useless. what inf has more is all the modules but if you get esprit you can buy what you need or want one by one
http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vu ... it/?page=9"

... the quality will always be the same.
That depends on the user....

Re: MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
Thenus I would say that VUE is better than Bryce. That is becuase Bryce have a very limited set of modeling tools. About the only thing I would use Bryce for is it's ourtdoor scene rendering. Bryce is a fun program to play with though, especially for the money.

Re: MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
RAYMAN: Alright, then I need to get my hands on some decent tutorials on how to use Vue properly to get those gorgeous renders they show on the e-on website and other galleries... know of any very good ones you can recommend? Perhaps I will get some additional modules later on like the Eco system and Volumetric cloud ones...
rjef: That is basically all I use landscape programs for since I still do my modeling in trueSpace. Perhaps later I will learn to use all the special tools and features that Bryce and Vue has to offer, but for now I just want decent quality basic terrain renders to use as backdrops for my models...

Theuns volumetric clouds should be included in the basic esprit package.
The best and free tutorials for Vue are at www. geekatplay.com
They cover every aspect of the program.
Yes ecosystem and ecosystem painter is awsome...

some more...
the shack is a typical little house where villagers sleep, this one is for the shaft and train operators...
will be adding drive belts that links to the train gear to move the train...

Holy cow Theuns you are creating an entire "town under ground"
and I gave my inhabitants a single rock to sit on!
Your work always has a distinct style to it. I love watching your creative
mind at work. Keep it going!

hehehe, thanks Steinie :)
still need to add some "blockmen" to the village... ;)
bottom image is the conveyer belt system driven by the windmill to transports crates and stuff down the tunnel...
next is an object only light test to see how the infinite light falls through the roof holes...
then the main scene light test...

Re: MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
next, experimented some flame torch lighting in the side tunnel since the sunlight didn't penetrate down that deep...
added some outside views of the cube, one from an angle the other from the top...
next, i'll add some people with hand lantern/torches moving about... perhaps a little dock in the water pit for a little row boat...

Absolutely fantastic. I am partial to village scenes and this one is great. Love the lighting and the texturing.

Re: MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
Experimented with different textures and light...
old rock textures made it too dark and cluttered...

the blue globes below didn't really look that good to me though...

orange looks better

added some more shacks at the docks...

Always enjoy watching your scenes come together. Big scenes was never my strongpoint so I'm full of envy of this sort of thing

Re: MMC1002 "Underground" Cave Village
tnx weevil :) there are many other things that I'm not that good at as well, so we can learn from each other :D
Here are some updates... many added workers carrying goods about... some light changes as well...
Added 'carriers' to get goods from the lift down to the docks for transport... there is also a sort of pulley slide that goods are hooked onto and lowered with a guide rope...

More 'carriers' at the docks to load stuff...

Carriers at the track/conveyer system...

Wider view of the gear/lift shaft where goods are collect

Test render of the lighting... this scene took FOEVER to render compared to previous ones and I don't know why...

Great image! I can almost hear the drips and the trickling of the water along with the grunts of the workers.
