Yep, make sense either way. So I decided to follow the original tS organization since this UU docs cross references back to the original docs. Caligari had a habit of sticking the camera just anywhere, even in model it's with deform tools or something.trueBlue wrote: 14 Mar 2021, 16:18Not a big deal but in the UU7, the Cameras were removed from the Primitivesclintonman wrote: 14 Mar 2021, 15:42 The camera is between Text primitive and Tube primitive because it is the last standard truespace "primitive" and Tube is the first new UU primitive.
I just find it confusing that Cameras were included the Primitives where you create meshes

Draft 4, 205 pages, up to page 154 in the middle of the particles section. Have to figure out a few things there.
Didn't get very far today, which isn't surprising, I figured it would take a while to figure out the particle tools.
Added some notes from the release notes for future changes.

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Draft 6, 212 pages, up to page 182,183
finished deformers, pass includes parenting, mirror matrix, lock/unlock objects, rectangle select, layers, mesh origin, fk controls, lathe
started static sweep
looks like my speed is about 10 pages per day, so the first full draft of the manual should be done in a couple of days
after that will need to go through and fix all the pages that are out of date due to all the trueBlue changes
still a few scripts that are changing daily like the synchronize scripts and a few that need to change - remove clear undo history some and need to add clear undo history to others
The reason for the clearing of undo history is because when scripts run they don't run as a single step, but as multiple steps with each step using an undo slot. So a person could undo to a bad spot corresponding to the middle of a script run, the clear undos prevents that from happening. In some cases because of what is happening it doesn't matter that the undos are cleared. In other cases it could mess up your workflow and prevent you from undoing something unexpectedly. Those are the cases that need o be worked on or warnings added so you can make an informed decision and not blindly move forward with the use of the tool.

Draft 8 the final draft version, 218 pages
Pretty much everything that's going into the manual is in place.
The table of contents main chapters are clickable, subsections are not.
Still some questions to try to answer, and some areas to fill in.
Edit: upload not working...

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Might be a good idea to mention about a single selected object and multiple selected objects
Most of the tools/scripts only work on one object at a time
If you select multiple objects and run certain tools/scripts, it uses the last selected object out of the selection
In these cases there is no warning or message indicating which object in the selection the tool/script was applied to unless the tool/script opens the Stack/Panel

First 131 pages up to the New In UU section starting the Red toolbar section.
Just grinding away at it, fixing errors, adding clarifications and making it slightly prettier. Also some detours to improve some of the scripts added in the UU.

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Phase 2 Draft 6
ran through to the end of the manual and then started over from the beginning again because of multiple changes to the UU
most recent updates are up to page 115, the start of the character editor section
There was a style change for the manual so some labels and text will be blank after page 115 because they don't fit in their boxes anymore.
The new workspace layers system is started and maybe it can be added by the end of Phase 3 of the manual. Phase 3 will involve looking for places to add more diagrams and examples and start planning the links to other files. The final step will be integrating it into the existing manuals via the html index and links to the various chapters files.

Object Navigation Widget
Not sure of a good one word replacement of Drag
To open the Widget's Help panel, you press and hold the keyboard i Key and move the cursor over the widget's mesh
The Object Navigation Widget image used in the document does not have semi transparent triangles
Object Navigation Widget
This should be removed"Ctrl + LB click opens the selected object in the Link Editor"
i + drag may be a little misleading"i + drag any surface = Opens the widget's Additional Shortcuts Help floating panel"

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Starting the final version of the manual.
This is meant to be placed inside the PDFMan folder and the ts76_manual.html replaces the original file. The manual works best if the pdf files open in the browser instead of the pdf viewer. This new file has a size of 5Kb, the original was made with MS Word so it had a lot of extra nonsesne and is 65Kb size.
I missed the note.
"Ctrl + LB click opens the selected object in the Link Editor"
This should be removed
Will get to it next time.

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Updated up to page 117 which has a video link.
The html file is the same as last time, so no link attached here.
The new video file needs to be placed in \PDFMan\resources\chapter8
The video is a demo of the transfer skinning process. It has no sound and was created by one of the developers during the beta testing cycle.
For me the video won't play from the browser. It just gets downloaded. When viewed from a pdf viewer the video plays in an external player.
I'll need to check to see if there's any way to force it to play from the browser.
I did some research and it looks like the transfer skinning tool would be useful for things like adding clothing to a skinned character or modifying a character to give it a different shape and using the old skinning to produce most of the new skinning. I plan to get some sample cases for the manual and maybe make a video for the manual showing how it all works.

An update to the PDF file. The video and html file from earlier posts have not changed.
At this point it's getting close to completion. Need to write a simple introduction. Maybe add some more images and check that the links work. Maybe some links to animated gif files for some images.

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Thanks, I'll add your notes to the manual.
That :: button was confusing because it does 2 different things from a users perspective.
Click once and it opens the panel. Maybe it also saves it but as a user you can't see that.
Click it while the panel is open will set/save the position and size etc. of the panel. Again no user feedback, so you just have to know it's saving the panel.
On top of that it also saves the 1D, 2D, 1+2 appearance so LMB does not necessarily open a 2D look and RMB may not open as 1+2 aspect for the panel.

The saving part was added at a latter date pre request

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Updated the Materials section and added images for the NURBS section. Added a note for using materials with NURBS patches. The gif images idea has been abandoned in favor of a simple sequence of images in the pdf file.
page 74 say joint snapping is broken, it's been fixed since that note was written.

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Getting close to complete. I expect the final version of the manual to be done by the end of this week, if not sooner.
attached is the latest draft.
TODO:
update the particle system section
update the page numbers in the table of contents - all main sections are good, the minor sections not so good
read through it all to determine what's missing or difficult to understand
make sure all the internal document links point to the correct locations
make installation instructions and gather it all together

The Delete icon(s) tooltip = Delete selected objects
Shortcut = Delete keyboard key
The word delete is mostly found in the digital world referring to removing something from one place and putting it in another. When we delete files from the desktop it goes into the recycle bin; however, if the files are too big for the recycle bin it may permanently delete them. But there is a catch, when we delete something from the computer the data is not removed or erased from the hard drive, it is still there. However, the place where the data was saved is marked by the system as being empty, so the next time a person saves something it over writes that area. When we delete something from the computer, it is usually recoverable, maybe not manually but one can use recovery software to bring back the data. But once the data is rewritten, the older data is erased and written over with the new data.
Hence, in the technological world deleting only refers to removing the object, but the evidence of that object is still there. However, erasing refers to completely wiping it out meaning it is no longer available or recoverable. The delete button is found as a physical button the computer, marked as ‘Delete’ or ‘Del’.

Ctrl + LB click any surface opens their Mouse settings for object navigation widgets, the cage widget mouse settings has a mouse wheel on/off button
when on the mouse wheel will activate the rotation surfaces and move and scale in the direction of the move and scale surfaces instead of the perpendicular directions of the normal settings. So you can use the left and right mouse buttons to move perpendicular to the line or the middle wheel(not button) to move along the line.

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
I thought I released the final document yesterday, but there are still a few things to add. Specifically, I was going through my UU4Clinton scripts and found that material inspect and axis tool help shortcuts exist. So I need to go through and add any missing help popups and their commands to UU4Clinton and add the missing shortcuts to the manual.

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
Just found out that the Fix Orphan Materials is not reliable for scene instanced materials. Need to add a note to the manual to only used with none type instanced materials.
UU updated Nov 11 - need to document quick and regular show hide and layers
DX Material Components toolbar
note - just found bug? show all will change the layer assignment for nurbs objects
some show/hide notes:
QUICK
shows a status message if you try to hide an object that does not have an ora node
hide hideall will not hide an object that does not have ora node
if you group objects the group will not have an ora node and will not work with hide scripts
The children of groups will hide/show selection. They will be ignored by show/hide all
old scenes have objects that do not have ora node so don't work until after slow hide or show is run
speed difference only noticable in large scenes(large number of items)
SLOW
hide will deselect spotlights, cameras and projector lights, hide all will not
once slow show/hide is run on an object it can be used with the quick show and hide commands with some restrictions on groups
?shortcuts still use slow show hide or new quick show hide?
boolean operations will cause items to lose their layer assignments - ora is removed
view popup toolbar will not open unless something(anything) is selected
will need new clear history warnings:
"Show & ShowAll runs Fix NURBS ORA even if the NURBS needs fixing or Not!
Not sure what the results would be if a user selected UnDo
So... I would like to add RsApp.ClearHistory() at the end of the following two scripts
NURBSUtilities/fixRenderAttributes
Commands/Fix NURBS ORA
Everytime you click in a 3D View WHEN a NURBS is selected, the following script runs:
NURBSUtilities/NURBStoCPMeshSelection
I notice that the Undo History no longer WORKS!!!
So... I would like to add RsApp.ClearHistory() at the end of the above script"

Re: Unofficial Update Documentation
You have to be careful how you use quotes. If your string has double quotes inside of it you have to use single quotes to define it. And the opposite is also true, if you have a string with single quotes you have to use double quotes to define it. A third way is to backslash all your internal quotes like this:
System.Alert(" \"Hello World\" ")
System.Alert(" \"Hello World\" ")

So, the problem that I am trying to explain is the Error you will get when you copy the ScriptObject.RunCmd from the Command History and paste into a jScript This is happening will all the scripts that use:clintonman wrote: 04 Dec 2021, 16:00 You have to be careful how you use quotes. In that case you can't 100% trust what you copy from the Command History. JScript doesn't care if you use single or double quotes it just has to follow the rules so if you copy something that doesn't work you'll have to fix it manually.trueBlue wrote: 04 Dec 2021, 16:30So, the problem that I am trying to explain is the Error you will get when you copy the ScriptObject.RunCmd from the Command History and paste into a jScriptclintonman wrote: 04 Dec 2021, 16:00 You have to be careful how you use quotes. ScriptObject.RunCmd.png
This is happening will all the scripts that use:Code: Select all
var cmd = ''; <- single quotes
trueSpace uses double quotesCode: Select all
ScriptObject.RunCmd("kernel package/run script command", "File", "<-Put commands here using single quotes->", "IsBuffer", -1)
Confirmed: pressed the "Run Original" button and the code in the Command History is not valid because of the quotes.

1.) We should be able to 100% trust what you copy from the Command History, because this is what trueSpace is generating
Solution: Write the scripts to play nice with trueSpace, and use Double Quotes like trueSpace uses
var cmd = ""
2.) Could this be making trueSpace unstable?

1.) Then do like I said in the first answer and rewrite everything in this form - System.Alert(" \"Hello World\" ")trueBlue wrote: 04 Dec 2021, 17:14Sorry, I have to disagree!clintonman wrote: 04 Dec 2021, 16:00 In that case you can't 100% trust what you copy from the Command History.
