Limbo
A completely new project within Buddy World. I now have some time on my hands to develop it and a WIP always gets me going.
Prodigy, any chance of a Buddy World category for all of these like the last forum?
Cheers

Re: Limbo
Mmm, looks like this will be my next project as it is new (and therefore relatively exciting!). I know where the Limbo tubes go to (into real world photos)....just trying to work out exactly where they come from. Limbo is a world populated by 'lost' items such as small change, odd socks, spilt milk, belly button fluff etc.

Great concept and the images are very well presented. Terrific lighting effects as usual.
BTW, saw your Chav image in 3D Artist magazine the other day, many congrats.

Great stuff. Love the feel of the work. It could clearly be something relatively frightening if you think about it (a big freaking object/creature/being) that comes out and steals your stuff
but it's presented in a lighthearted way.
Always enjoy your work.

Re: Limbo
RE: limbo, just got back from a long weeken d in Dublin where I had time to ponder on this. I seem to have three options:
1. Base it on a person (young boy or girl) who gets sucked into Limbo and discovers what is there etc. etc.
2. Make Limbo a place inhabited by native characters and base the stories on what they get from the tubes (so to speak)
3. Base it around characters that have inhabited Limbo while keeping how they get there (just who is operating the tubes?) a mystery.
3. seems the most natural for me...if I choose 1 it would be a one off story and 2 gives up all sense of mystery.
Still undecided but I have modelled a few surreal characters just in case I go with 3...although I have to admit, this was always going to be my 'weird' project!

Re: Limbo
You could do both options 1 and 2 from the earlier post. The first Limbo story would have someone discover what is there as in option 1. What they would discover are the natives from option 2. Then you can continue with more stories using option 2.

Re: Limbo
great concept! 3d is just a tool to show good idea and you do that with talent. with this kind of characters you can do a lot of thing. i like KeyMan. i know it is not for anim but it would be fantastic to use this character for a funny movie. each character could have a particular power due to the objects used for their body.

Re: Limbo
Thanks Marcel. All the characters are created from or based around lost objects; things that end up in Limbo. At least that is what we perceive. The tubes take them back to Limbo Land.
So far I have Milkman and the characters who carries him around. Each time he gets spilt his helper cries (think about it) and he gets that bit smaller...he used to be a full 4 pints!
KeyBob is made from those keys you just can't find.
Money bags...he steals the small change from your pockets and the back of the sofa...he's worth millions now!!
Pixelpete.....a pixellated character lost from the 8 bit days of computers.
Fluff magnet....name says it all but why is he always blue?
A few more to flesh out, no doubt names will change too....

If you are really thinking of Limbo you will need a sock pining for its mate... possibly a sock puppet....
there was always the missing chess piece or checker when I was a kid but I don't know how relevant those things would be to today's youth audience... they play these games online ....
more ideas later....

Good ideas guys, the sock was already in development but I like the remote control too!
Just what do we keep losing? Has to be tangible (i.e not losing a job or a bet) and relatively small. I want the world to be constructed from small elements such as a castle made from half chewed sweets and smarties!

Re: Limbo
Finally got around to messing with this. I originally wanted to mess with photos of the real world but the plan now is to do everything in trueSpace but then to apply lots of filters to give it a painted ethereal look. This is my first attempt at a page from the book. I am being very clear on this that I want minimal detail as it is told by a boy as if it were a dream he had...but he cant be sure. That should also mean less modelling and rendering and therefore something that wont take years to finish...

Looks a little like my flower vase vi ... ?f=5&t=353
I think the colors/lighting create a look similar to Nightmare Before Christmas/Tim Burton.
Will you make the "awake" world look different than the Limbo world?

Funny you should say that...first page is colourful and as we go into his dreams it goes into the purple/black/blue stuff.Finis wrote:Looks a little like my flower vase vi ... ?f=5&t=353

Not too colourful mind...I want to keep it quite dark but there will certainly be more 'warm' colours...will post a pic tonight.

Re: Limbo
Cheers, will do but I do need to make a few characters, even if they are dimly lit in the shadows. Always takes time to get that right but I will tweak the story while I am doing it.

Thanks for that...i didnt want them to look like 3d renders too much and I have hit on a combination of styles in Photoshop which I think works well.

Re: Limbo
...and it's done. I checked it over a few times but, considering I have been working on it (on and off) for years now, I didn't do my usual soak test (leave it for a few weeks then read it again). So, I prepared the ebook and uploaded it to the Nook and Ibook stores.
That's it then...like Chonkyponk I may revise it in the future but for now, back to Doris and Bob n Blob.
Thanks for all the input and please visit the page on Facebook to see a few more images. It would be great if you could like the page too. I am going to offer a few free week passes for the end of summer for those who like the facebook page.
