4D modelling

Post by Rhino169 »

Can truespace be used in this manner, I thought i was thinking of something new, but.....

http://insitebuilders.wordpress.com/200 ... -sketchup/"

I had been asking in a previous post to have an animation slider that could control an animation. I also wanted to have things triggered by dates. When date or time information is added , it is considered to be called 4D animation or modelling or CAD.

The idea is that each phase or piece material can be scheduled and shown in an animation showing the building from ground to finish being built.

My believe is that the animation slider could be used as a widget that would control a time lapsed type of model. Each wall might appear or rise as the slider slides over it in the animation window. The main idea would be to convert the entire build time into a shorten animation. At the same time, I'd like to see the date where the animation slider currently stands as a date that changes as the slider moves.

Buildings from scratch would be cool, I am actually looking for remove/repair/reinstall type animations of equipment.

I don't believe I am looking for a rendered animation...more like a non-rendered controllable animation with a slider that shows a date.

In the realm of technology anything is possible, the question I usually ask is whether or not it is practical.

From what you are describing, the application of such a tool could easily run into TS limitations like polycount where you plan on creating a reasonably detailed structure. As such, I would suggest finding another tool to undertake this type of function.

I guess what I am trying to do is to find that limit and work within it.

I do not intend to do models which are too robust. I would like to use the same level of shading or textures for objects as you see in the video....just solid colors for different features.

Does anyone out there know where the limit for polycount is in general for trueplay? I would assume there is some depency on the users computer capabilities...cpu. vid card, ram, connection to web..etc..

I guess if someone said there is a polycount ceiling and that number was say 10,000 polygons, then I would build the model so that it stays under that number. Like for example a brick wall could be an animation for each brick or I could make the finished wall, as one cube, appear to rise from the ground at a rate the bricklayers work at to cut down on the polycount.

The scheduling aspect I beleive is do-able using keyframes related to dates to trigger the animation of objects. :)
