This is probably the most amazing first entry ever. I love the steampunk style to it, the impractical bicycle wheels, and the hardcore design. So Great! You just upped the bar, and how you did this in practically no time!!! Psycho!

Psycho Tractor - Work In Progress - Test Render

Post by MikomDude »

Thanks guys! With many thanks to Draise who helped me fix this model after a broken export and showing how to render this thing properly in BlenderForArtists 2, here's a final test render:

psychotractor.png

Here are also some awesome shots that Draise rendered (full credit goes to him on these ones):

Thanks trueBlue!

Here's another test render on the streets of Prague:

psychotractorStreet.jpg

The photo is mine although I was originally trying to get an HDRI to work in BlenderForArtists which doesn't seem to work at the moment, either that or all online tutorials I found are no longer relevant to Blender 2.8.

Awesome Mikom! And super speed modeling. You made this in microseconds!

Draise? Punk, he can do nothing, no knowledge, no talent. Mice are better cg artists! He certainly can't run a business. You call those renders? ( :worship: )

To make an HDRI requires an Enviroment Texture in the world settings. Most 2.79 tutorials or BFA1 tutorials will be defunct now..... The whole education architecture of Bforartists 2 needs to be updated, and the manual has been taking most of the updates lately. Blender official tutorials may alternatively help there, as functionality is similar. If you want, I can also connect and show you how to use environment maps there, no problem!

Interesting, from nothing to something - no apparent beginning.

What's the method of power to make it transport from one place to another?

Looks like it's in "carriage" mode currently.

That's here right?

Clipboard01.jpg

That's what the Blender 2.8 tutorials referenced as well but it didn't seem to work for me with any image file... does it need a more complicated set-up with a sky background settings or something?

It's a steam engine of sorts, admittedly very simplified and for the most part quite nonsensical. I originally wanting to make it more like a high-speed bicycle (hence the wheels).

How does it work? (With some imagination) A rudimentary steam engine powers a piston at the bottom which drives the rear axis.

drive.jpg

A pedal (like a car pedal) is tied to a valve of some sort (with a metal cable) inside the engine which, when pressed, starts driving the piston.

pedal.jpg

Steering is done with a small rotating device next to the driver. It rotates a screw that moves a metal rod that stretches from the back all the way to the front which in turn pushes or pulls on the front wheel, a crossbeam underneath moves the second front wheel.
(A keen eye will notice this current set-up of the mechanism rotates the front wheels in the wrong direction when rotating the steering wheel in the right direction, this tractor is probably best driven backwards.)

steering.jpg

I had originally imagined it having a bucket of coal hanging from the back as well with a shovel sticking out of it and some sort of farming piece of equipment that was driven by the rear-axis in some manner but I had no time (I should really be working on my game).

Yeah, it may need an Environment Texture map node and a texture coordinate (generated).

Use a .hdr file for the image in the environment node. Jpg's etc. won't work. Use a huge one or it will be fuzzy. Use the environment node not the background node. HDRI environment and lighting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VBkj_I-ONk

You can make a IBL, image based light for cycles, not sure about eevee. Enclose the scene in a sphere using a jpg, tiff, etc. as its texture and also making it emit light, emissive node, based on the image. The image must be like a Mercator projection map meant to be wrapped around a sphere.

Edit: Ah, Draise showed a way to use the background node.

You dont have to use a big Hdri its bad practice and costs lots and lots of resources! Totaly unnecessary if you dont pose it on a shadowcatched floor!
Better is to use a very low hdri for lighting and a backdrop in tiff 16 bit quality! Doesnt have to have a larger size then your final render!
Big textures cost a lot of resources! Especially ram!
Use a scanned texture like the ones from RD textures for the floor instead !
Thats something that ads realism!😊
