tS model side won't render scene

Post by MikomDude »

Well anyone who has visited my Spaceship Athena thread probably knows that I'm working on a very complex scene. Now it seems that trueSpace can't handle the amount of detail anymore (#ver= 126400). All it renders out is a black image in one second, no render process. I always knew there was a possibility the mode side wouldn't be able to handle the huge amount of polys but I never expected the render engine to be the first to fail.

So... any ideas on how to fix this?

This seems familiar... I do remember the quick black render bug... maybe someone else can recall the exact solution.... but:

I think it was a material related issue that caused it.
Maybe check the last few added objects or remove them one at a time to a library to see if the render comes back.
If so you may need to modify the material on them.
All textures have to be below a certain size -4000 pixels if I'm remembering right.

Happy hunting.

Thanks spacekdet, I'll remove some materials, see if that makes it go away.

I've had a black render instantly appear when doing rendering with DX solid or solid with wire view on. The regular render went black not the DX. That happened when I applied a texture (black on auto refresh with texture) or tried to render a single object but not on full render. TS 7.6 not 7.61 or something beta. It rendered fine if I set the view to regular wire. Not DX or OGL.

I just copied the plants in my teleportal scene to produce a 540,000 vert (or was it polys?) scene which rendered in 2 minutes with no trouble. (1xAA 800x400 HQ triangulation raytrace scanline) I don't think 126,000 verts should be a problem. I often do scenes with that or more.

Sometimes I have had black or dark renders because the camera was in or behind or under an object.

Yeah, I agree w/ Finis's thought that it's not the # of verts or scene complexity that is causing the problem.

Ooo, the old 'Camera stuck inside object' trick, good one to check for!
Also make sure camera is selected and you're viewing thru it- it's possible to render from any object -not just a camera.

I agree. After writing that sentence I realized that it wasn't that much at all, in fact most of my models (mainly my Bionicles) tend to be at least three times as much. So I figured spacekdet was right about the materials. And he was, one texture (3000x3000p) seemed to be causing the problem. The odd thing is, it was the Athena logo texture which rendered just fine on all my previous renders.

Well I'm glad I can move on. I'll be posting an update on the model soon.
