Let me start off by saying this thread is about tS 6.6 ONLY!
It was created so that Legacy 3D users have a place to share
knowledge using this version and tS6.6 plugins.

Keep this in mind when you respond
to questions.
The rest of the Forum is the proper place to discuss other Software including
workSpace.

This thread was requested by many long time users. Please respect my
request by sticking to the subject.
Thanks for understanding.

Enjoy.
Steinie.

Steinie,
Ok so I am game, whats the question.
I use 6.6 and 4.3 I honestly prefer 4.3 as the majority of my modeling is done in 4.3, hard to believe but yep....

The purpose of this Category is for Legacy trueSpace users.
We have gotten many request for this section and we thought it
was a great idea. We want the Community to be happy!
So discussions about tS6.6 and earlier versions are allowed.

If there are any discussions at the old Caligari Forums
pertaining to Legacy trueSpace that are worth saving
now would be the time to save them here.

p.s I too always liked tS4.3 and felt trueSpace drifted from it's roots
after that.

Give DesignDevil a pat on the back for sticking with 6.6.

Steinie I agree with you about TS drifting from its roots.
If you look at other 3D apps, like lIghtwave, 3D Max, and Poser etc..., you will find that while they have improved the application and how it handles the various functions they kept the interface the same, plane and simple and easy to navigate and understand. When TS went to version 7, it got confusing and clustered and was like trying to navigate your way through one of those automated phone systems. While I enjoy hearing of what people are doing in 7.61 I at the same hand have found it hard to grasp and confusing to find what I need. The model that I posted pictures of for people to guess the name and would win the model was done in 4.3 and smoothed out in argile. I have 6.6 installed but rarely do I use it except for certain types of rendering that I need which is very seldom. I wish we could go back to the days of 4.3 and 6.6 as I saw more work coming out during those times than any other.
As for plugins I use a few not many and I find that just doing the basic modeling and then cleaning it up in an outside application has a good workflow and saves me alot of time.

Gotta say, I still use 6.6 at home and work. 7 and I never really became friends.

I still use 6.6, with a button panel layout as close to 3.2 as I could get.

First time I launched 7 I thought "What the bloody 'ell did they do to it!? I can't find anything!" It's like a "Kai lite" GUI. All pretty looking when it doesn't need to be, but not so enormously screen space hogging like Kai's GUIs for Bryce and Power Goo and other apps he's done.

What I want/need to lay hands on is the Conversion Pack 2.1. I have version 2.0 of it but it doesn't work with 6.6.

I don't know how some people can use just the other side, model side rocks!!! But workspace is good too. When they launch the 6.6 DEMO I got scared with all that buttons and options because I used to use the TS 3.2 and he was very simple and easy to understand, and I always dreamed with the products annunciated in the Newsletter but I didn't had enough money to buy...

I felt the same way about 6.6 when I first used it. It was like traveling to another dimension.
I have been a long time TS 4.3 user and use it more often than 6.6 as I have no problem in designing anything I want in there. While 4.3 doesnt have the render quality that I find in 6.6 I use 6.6 more for rendering. Although I did do an animation called chester rocks.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5kwlnUTss3A&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5kwlnUTss3A&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/youtube]

You will find that in this animation that all the backgrounds and the opening scene are done in TS 4.3. Chester was modeled in TS 4.3 and then exported as an OBJ file and then brought into argile to clean up and then into Poser to create the animations. All object in this video were designed in TS 4.3. The scene with the floor where Chester stands was rendered in 6.6. TS 4.3 is nowhere dead and still kicks but as a easy to use modeler and great for doing certain types of rendering.
I also teach a class at our local Y to a group of 12 kids that are learing the basics and I use TS 4.3 as a learning tool for them.

Jeff,

It's rare found a character animation longer than 1 minute, great job!
Another thing is that your classes are a good thing, I would like have an teacher to instruct in 3D arts, just to know... Where you make that classes, are in a school or a company that you have open?

Thanks and keep the good job, doesn't matter if is with TS 4.3 or with 10.5 if it's good anyone recognize!

I cant say much about those plugins as I dont have any of them.
I have had other plugins that upon exiting TS 6.6 produce and illegal proceedure call. What kind of an error message or problem is happening.

They just don't work. The selected models flash like key frames are being
created.... But after their done... No keys are created. These plugins
deal mostly with motion creation.

You may have to ensure that the autorecord keyframe checkbox is checked (or unchecked). You can get this up by right-clicking the record icon.

Re: TS 6.6 Any free downloads

Post by Scifi Nut »

Is there any plans for MicroSoft realeasing the older tS's for free :bananalove: or does anyone know of any sites that have them for downloads,- :bananadevil: Not the pirated versions :bananadevil: - I have v1 - 4.3 but I am looking for v5.2 or 6-6.6 As I don't like the v7.6 as it needs to much ram to the simplest thing like booleans to reduce polygon count or joining objects like wheels that don't intersect each other, it than says that the system has ran out of memory or just crashes.
I use 4.3 for modelling and 3.2 to render as 4.3 rendering doesn't work when you put a light source behind tranparant sections or reflect properly.

Thanks

The only versions of TS you can legally download are off of the Caligari site or CNet.

Cali site has TS 7.61 Beta.

CNet has TS 7.6.

Try going here http://www.archive.org/web/web.php and do a search on the Caligari site, you might still be able to legally download it from the web archive.

The beauty the Glory of TRUESPACE 7!!!...yuck (hehehe)
Truth is I feel like I am on some kind of bad drug when I work in 7.
I get errors and bugs and unfamiliar results, but it is SHINY!!!.

That being said I have nothing against it just super super prefer 6.6 and earlier.
Also other than a few tools that I really liked in 7, such as dae export (we can make that for 6.6 and earlier I am sure) I really just prefer all workflow in 6 and earlier.

And THAT being said, like a few others here, I try to make tools so I can have them.
City Maker is in its infancy but its basically a 3d generator, and if you take a look at the WIP
folder here you can see CopyExPlus's development. (well its not art but its a work in progress!)

Once done with that I am willing to take on challenges, I see someone here is working on a Vray for modelside, and I know another person is working on a few widgets for TS that allow more object control)

Realistically, I think 6.6 isn't dead, I think its like an action hero the "Unnamed Evil Corporation" thought they killed it, but it returned, so they infected it with "an unnamed evil infection zombie virus *cough ts7 workspace* " and it still hung on ;)

I really expect to keep using 6.6 for a few years to come, I love the power of blender but always feel lost there for the same reasons as TS7, thus my personal goal is to keep improving TS 6 and earlier fun and workability, so far my infant tsx's work in ts 4 and up and have been working in gamespace as well.

Anyhow Viva Le TS!!!.

I always felt 6.6 was a super package that just needed a little refinement :) thats why I enjoy the challenge of trying to make tsx's for it :)

I still use 6.6, nearly exclusively. There are a few times I've imported scenes (created in 6.6) into 7x in order to take advantage of V-Ray or HDRI. My short film (Aksturmp 2.... kind of a continuation of the last short I did) was modeled, animated and rendered almost entirely in 6.6, and it's about 18 minutes long at present. So clearly, 6.6 works well enough to do decently sized projects. I also share your confusion when opening up 7x (especially work side... still haven't figured out how to do much there at all). Oh, and I used to love 4x as well for doing things like ridgidly jointed models (robots and such). Both 4x and 6x had their problems, but then, what tools don't?
