Sounds familar! my old man managed to ground a boat on the Norfolk Broads 10 minutes after boarding the damn thing, no mean feat so I'm told, spent the next 4 hours waiting for the tide to come in (tide = about 4inches difference but enough)

oh edit
I might give it a go :)

Got 4 of 16 hull curves already..... the most difficult part is getting the blueprints and everything together.....
i will be using clip mapping again so all the windows and railing and everything is not real geometry....

I can't remember how its done in TS but in Thea you add a black n white image, or greyscale or with a alpha channel into the clipping channel, anything black doesn't render, plain white will and anything else goes on the grey brightness
Image1.jpg
I think there's some pre made material for wire mesh in Truespace.
But its a real timesaver, if you have a wire mesh fence or railings that don't need to detailed its a godsend.. or you can use displacement to get some curves

I won't have time to make one but I did get an idea that I'll do someday.

Hey JamesMc,
I liked "The Rolling Sands" on "The Ponderous Foot.". This picture invokes quite specific steampunk impressions. I love steampunk. I think it's one of the fewest way to make technics artsy. (of course if there is more steam than punk  )

Thanks all for the compliments. Perhaps this month I'll be allowed in the final vote.

Was going to do my usual warped drawing, but couldn't see making the whole board room in a Ship's Accident Investigation board work in my mind. So, I'll just put the concept cartoon here.

The January 2011 MMC poll will start some time tomorrow Jan. 27. I am in time zone GMT-7, Mountain Time, and I'll do it around 10am my time. I'll look for last minute entries and updates but I advise you to post in the main thread to be sure it is found.

To be sure no one is left out I'm posting the MMC January 2011 entries here for verification. Let me know if you have an entry not listed or if the title (for the poll) or image is not correct.

So it will take a lot of time tomorrow, I'll post only on the afternoon!

No problem. I'll start the poll when Leon's new picture is ready or tonight (my time) if it isn't ready yet. I have work of unknown duration later today so it might be evening before I check.

Leon, you said 4X anti-aliasing? It would be faster, of course, with less and might look good. A trick is to render larger with 1X and then shrink the image in Paint Shop or Photo Shop or otherwise post process it for smoothing.

I always use Adaptive anti-aliasing... does it really make that much difference to go to 4x or bigger?

I find that high levels of AA blur the textures so the "grain" is missing. Sometimes 2X is better than adaptive but I seldom need 3X or more. The Feature Following AA (on the workspace icons where depth of field is) might be interesting but the times I played with it made really long render times.

The end draws near. I'll start the poll before bed tonight (about 4 hours) or sooner if Leon's new picture appears. If no new picture is available then I'll use his current one and replace it with the new when available if he wants that. Vote changing will be allowed.
