I am looking for some good ideas to make a wrapped gift.
Maybe a bottle which is wrapped in a crumpled aluminium foil.
You know, there is a package band around the bottle neck.
It should look like the bottle as strangled.

I'm not near my computer however I imagine a vine of Poison Ivy or Poison Oak wrapped around the bottle.

I'd apply a texture with a bump map to the area with foil. If your software can do displacement mapping then use that.

If it is to be viewed close up and displacement mapping is not available then I'd copy the neck part of the bottle and resize it to be barely larger than the bottle. Then manually move several vertices around so there is some real geometry to see and then use a bump map.

In TS model side you could try the wiggledy plugin from Cool Powers 2. See Steinie's Helpful links thread to get that.

@jamesmc I think you are the nearest to my thoughts.

But I had forgotten to say: I want to make it in 3D.
The biggest Problem is the foil.
To model a bottle is easy. But to make a crumbled foil is really hard.
I tried soft brush. It may be the only possible way.
I want realistic cuttlings. If you wrap a foil around a bottle and
then a rope around the neck, you get cuttlings under the rope.
Do you know what I mean?

I don't understand "cuttlings".

Is the entire bottle to be wrapped in foil or just the neck?

Maybe I will find or make a photo this evening, to show what I want.

Roll a bottle into a foil
Then tie a rope around its neck.
So the foil is not longer plane, it got
Something like cuttlings or crinkles.

Like this, yes, but more realistic .

It is for a book cover my wife is writing.
Now I think I would prefer to use a more transparent plastic film instead of an aluminium foil.
I tried the soft paint brush, and I think it could be done with this method.
