Hello Everyone.

Post by DesertRat »

Hi,

As you can see from where my First post is im new here and new to truespace.
I came across this brain melting software last night by luck and i must say it's very cool. Im hooked.

It took me 6 hours to complete the first tutorial on Organic Modeling, the basic 3D design of the viperfish using the 17 video tutorials. Im now stuck.
There are many video tutorials on the website but for someone like me who has just been playing with this amazing software for only 6 hours im kinda stuck what to learn next.
Animation and Game design is something im guessing that i should be learning in a few months time once im confident with modeling from 2D images.

I will take a good look around the forum incase there are any links but if anyone would be really kind enough to point me in the right direction it would be greatly valued, PDF isnt my sort of thing i absorb information faster visually therefore video tutorials and pictures would be prefered.

Many thanks for taking the time to read.

Hi DeserRat :bananahi:

Here you have a lot of useful links vi ... p?f=13&t=3"

Be sure that you have downloaded everything you want! Caligari site will be shutdown in the next days...

Appreciate that wonderful tool and but as Truespace had your development finished, you can look to others good tools as Blender and Vue.

Good Lucky and see the tutorials and read the manual :D

Any moment... +/- 1 to 3 days... http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/s ... 713&page=2" here is a topic in the Caligari forums called End is Near, Steinie said two days one day ago, so could be today or tomorrow, download FAST, but be cool because me and almost every member downloaded it and will not be lost... But try to download from Caligary, it's difficult open a download site and maybe we have some copyright problems.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forums DesertRat.
First be careful with the font color you chose because there are three board styles
being used here (I use Aero Blue) I can hardly read your text because it is
Lime Green. So although it looks good with the default dark black screen it does
not in other styles.
Caligari is no longer. TrueSpace no longer is being supported. Use trueSpace (a $700
program) to your advantage. It does a lot of things very well.
If you have any questions just ask. We enjoy helping others.
Your right trueSpace is FUN!

Thanks for the welcome. Which true space you mean?
I downloaded truespace 7.61 Beta 8. Is that the one not supported ?
Is there another verson or program ?
I found alot of the video tutorials on the website were for previous versions of the truespace which makes it hard to use certain tools as some are renamed or hae different icons. As i never used a previous version it really does slow me down.

What would you suggest i start concertrating with in truespace to get my skills improving ?

Use truespace is easy and good to learn develop an 3D view to you which is very important... Download that old tutorials they help because they teach the concept, even you don't have the tools at least you know how to create. And download the 7.6 version too just to have another version, I use 7.6 but have both installation files.

Truespace is a wonderful tool, he was payware and when Microsoft bought Caligari (Company that produces TS) he become free, but just for almost a year when Caligari and TS were discontinued :(

Anyway enjoy that tool one of the bests at world, you can start with Blender too that is a good program and it's free!

Hi DesertRat,

I'm a desert rat too. Live in southern New Mexico.

All of trueSpace is no longer officially supported. The official forums may disappear soon. Microsoft bought Caligari, the original makers of TS. MS decided to discontinue the program.

TS 7.X is really two programs. Model space, or model side, is mostly TS 6.6 and is similar to the older versions of TS. Workspace is an unfinished new kind of TS. It has some interesting and some powerful new abilities but also is missing things.

Thanks for the welcome aswell, ill look for the older truespace that might help me get to grips with the software in general. I did download all the tutorials and resourses.
Where would i find this blender mate?
I got Photoshop CS4, i remember a saw some reference to it somewhere if i can use in conjunction with truespace great but i think then my RAM will prob blow up with all the visual graphic going on , hahaha.

Forgive the spelling, dont worrie i know i write like a pi**ed spider.

http://www.blender.org/"

Go to download page...

I think it's better you learn that 7x version (7.5 or 7.6 or 7.61), if you catch any older version you would have adaptive problems to the new ones, and I think the older version of TS that isn't the 7x is 3.2 and are kinda different but have the same main structure. Don't worry about the errors I miss a lot too.

Which is your hardware configuration?

You can also improve your TS with a lot of plugins!

leonregis hey,

I have no plugins as of yet as only had the program for 1 day and i didnt want to mess the program up with plugins that i dont know about, i would prob get compatability problems as i dont know what works with TS 7.61.
If you know of any that enchance the program with no bug please feel free to post some links mate i will be happy to try them.
As for Hardware config what do you mean ?
Have i tweaked my processor and graphics card ?

Oh thanks for the Link to Blender ill check it out, Is it like TS ?

Blender is similar, but every soft is unique I think UI of TS is better, but it's like your taste you can like more Blender than TS but first you need to use and play with them. :D

I advise you to not install plugins yet, just take a month to learn about the standard tools and then you can install some plugins, exist a lot of plugins that every TS user need to have, as primal particles and YafaRay, etc...

I just want to know your hardware settings like that
Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
Windows XP
Etc...

A lot of plugins work with 7.61. For now study and if you want chage to other soft but I like TS so much and I think is a good choice. You can see what you can do with Truespace in the Finished artwork forum, and in the image gallery of Caligari (see fast and if you want save those images until site gets shutdown).
Where u from?

Cya hope I'm helping

Hey leon,

My pc isnt that good to be honest i built it a few years ago and for some daft reason im holding onto it but as it needs a desktop fan to keep it cool after all the tweak i done to it, im thinking that xmas i will invest in a new machine.

32 - bit vista - i do prefer xp as all the updates but until vista gets more secure ill have to keep using Encrypted Algorithms.

AMD Athlon 64 x 2 duel core processor 3800+ 2GHz
150GB RAM
Nvidea GT 8 series with onboard 1 GB RAM PCI Express

Not that good but its holding in there for a first build with a few tweaks.

What you got mate ?

I got a
Core 2 Duo E4600
300GB HD
2GB RAM
Windows XP (I prefer)

Today you can buy a machine like that for +/- 1000 dollars
But I think that your computer support fine the Truespace.
Before I have a Pentium 3 machine and TS are just a little lagged and when I add a lot of polygons, SDS and objects it lock.

Thanks, jut a tip... don't confuse RAM memory with HD memory.

Nice machine mate, things over in England cost abit more mate

Ive looked at building another and it will set me back

Quad Core
Raptor Drive
Terrabite HD
2 X Nvidea GTX 7900's maybe
4 GB RAM DDR 3
Water cooling

looking at about £1500

The only lagging im getting is if i SDS to Many times too fast.
Im liking the look of some of the videos from Blender but TS looks less Cartoonie
Ill prob paly about with both until my PC blows up or i get the new one
How long at average would you say does it take to get to grips with these programs if your not a complete mong ?

It varies of person to person, and depends of your dedication and perseverance. Any doubt see in the manual and tutorials, then Google and if you didn't see any that could help you post here. I think you can familiarize with the app in two months to two years. Just depends on you

That configuration it's amazing! Just search to see you can pay a little less, I live in Brazil so I just make I fast conversion in real(Brazilian currency) to dollars ^^

Shortly Blender will supposedly get a new interface which will make it more
user friendly.
Blender and trueSpace are your two girlfriends BUT you don't have to marry either one!
Their both free and they don't eat much. Not bad ehhh?

So why must it be one or the other? Enjoy both.
No matter what other programs I use trueSpace is always part of my flow.

For me trueSpace has a creative atmosphere which makes 3D enjoyable to do.

I agree, I think I will still be going back to TS for the models and exporting them to blender for the scene setup and materials.

I like the setup in TS so much more than blender, but the limitations on size I had it TS was driving me crazy. With the 1 million polycount limit, I seemed to hit it way to often and quick for my liking, probably from my new and inefficient style of modeling.

Now I read that Blenders ceiling on poly's is around 7 million, so it will give me a little more room when setting up the scene, and I like the particle affects, physics, and hair.

Ultimately, I think I need to scratch together the cash to get vue, model in TS, hair and particles in blender, and then export to Vue for material, scene and render. From what I am reading Vue has an almost unlimited poly count available that would allow for massive scene setup with enviroments.
