I model for an older video game that allows 3d model makers to make custom props and fighting units to add to the game. I'm making a custom pilot figure that the player controls to fly around in the game. The attach object to bone tool is a neat way to build a human skeleton and attach rounded cylinders shaped to form like arms, legs and other body parts to specific bones to form a complete human figure. Once all body parts are made then the tool is used to attach all the seperate parts together with the skeleton.
This method works cool to make models like mechanized walkers and soldier type models for Battlezone II Combat Commander and because the parts are attached to individual bones the parts don't deform at all when the model is posed for keyframing. The game uses mostly low poly models so it's ideal for this task. Once a model is keyframed then it can be exported for conversion to other formats. I export as X models and convert them to SI XSI version 1 which my game uses for models and props.
