HellHound mech

Post by Steve »

I think this isn't really a 'sketch' so it probably warrants its own thread

For those who checked outThis little thread you caught a glimpse of a strange looking pod. Well, two years on from making that 'Vulture' mech, I decided to have another go at something that goes *stomp-stomp*. So here it is

Here's the final thing as used in the game
http://www.mechwarrior3.org/wforum/file ... nd_138.jpg"

There's a serious jump in detail from one screenshot to another where I forgot to hit Printscreen...2 days worth of niggling away at it, sorry guys

Very cool!

Hard edge modeling in Zbrush?

Never got the hang of it with Zbrush or 3DCoat.

Another model type that seems forever stuck on my "To Do" list. Sigh!

As always, impressive work, Steve. Even moreso having been crafted using tS's clunky tools. :bananacool2: :bananacool2: :bananacool2:

Thank you

I must be honest with you fellas though, I'm using no tools that aren't available in other 3D packages, so far I've only used Extrude, Bevel, add vertex, add edge, SDS for the cockpit and boolean subtract, when I have a moment I'll break down what I'm doing to create the shapes and details here

Here's some more updates

I'll get some closeups later, the entire arm joint rotates in the slot, and the gun part moves on a swash plate, where I've rigged the hydraulics to move as I rotate the swash plate

Not a problem

Up to over 50K in polys so far, so might as well not care about the details

Added the waist in. The upper torso can twist, shake side to side and up and down, legs can move in all directions and the hydraulics work

When I've modelled it all, I'll be adding pipes and cables to it, use SDS and then use MotionStudio to rig the entire mech together... Should get exciting

Nobody panic
I'm alive

Barely
Been doing one of four things since last friday, Winching some gliders into the air, getting winched into the air, sleeping in either a tent on the side of what felt like a mountain shilst sharing a sleeping bag, and dodging arbitrary BBQs and cheap music so not much time to get back to this

Glad you liked what I did, because I certainly didn't, so I edited it, and went a little gung-ho with the details. These screenshots are unrendered, so as you'll find them in Truespace

And I'm typing this from a comfortable bed listening to whatever damn music I want to

The details you've added far exceed the reference image you posted earlier. Do you have sketches you're working from, or is this all spontaneous freehand? The latter would be astonishing.
Great work!

Very nice, this model is really starting to look complicated. I'm not much into mechs myself, I prefer wheels or hovercraft but this is starting to look pretty good! :)

Afraid it's all spontaneous free hand Peter, I can't draw to save my life so I just tend to do things on the trot as I see them in Truespace
