This board has got to be fixed....
I can't simply post anything... I have to type in three words just to post text, and forget about posting an image, I can't do that at all.

When I try to post an image, just like a text post, I have to do the spambot thing. A text will post, after three verifications, but images will not.

Try to do in 2 step:
first: post your txt
second: edit the message to insert an image.

Ok I added this site to my trusted site and turned the security down, and I still can't upload an image. This issue just all of sudden started messing up. So I don't know what to do. It is a very wierd issue.

Re: This board has got to be fixed....
Hi RJeff,
I see from your post ("trusted Sites" etc.) that you are using Internet Explorer. I usually use Firefox but I tried some things for you with IE 8 and found that I could avoid the problem:
- On Internet Options -> Privacy move the slider to "High"
- Click the Sites button near the Slider
- On the Sites panel enter united3dartists.com in the "Address of website" box and click the Allow button.
I don't have any sites in the trusted sites list.
Use the Delete button under Browsing History on the General tab of Internet Options to delete all cookies.
After I did this I was able to post on the forum normally with the spam question appearing only on initial log in.
I posted this from IE 8 with the settings above. Test image posted also.
Edit: I tried setting the Internet Zone security, on the Security tab, to "High" but it kept setting itself back to "Custom" when I clicked OK (or whatever is was to continue) on a warning box that appeared on initial login. I'm am not familiar enough with IE to know how to keep it at "High". I think "allowing" on the privacy tab should be enough but if you can set Internet Zone Security to "High" and keep it there then we'd be sure.

Yeah, let`s tweak all our system so that it works with this forum only. Who needs the rest of the internet

Finis, it`s a great idea to find workarounds as you did. But it`s this forum that needs to be fixed, not every users PC. Too bad that Prodigy doesn`t react. Give me ten minutes with this Admin panel, and the problem would be solved for everybody ...

Re: This board has got to be fixed....
I too think that there are probably other solutions, better ones as in less trouble for all users, to the spam problem. That is not the issue I am addressing and is separate from the fact that as long as the current anti spam question is there people must adapt to avoid the problem, or accept the difficulty and post anyway, or don't post.
Although the current anti-spam question is no trouble for me I am trying to help people who choose to adapt to do so.
In Firefox you can set an exception only for this site and only regarding cookies. That has no effect on your visiting other sites ... "the rest of the internet" (unless you suspect this forum of setting malicious cookies in which case you shouldn't visit here at all). I am disappointed to see that IE does not provide that precision in its settings. Again, that is free will and IE users must enjoy the benefits and accept the consequences of the choice to use IE.
Hopefully Prodigy, who is very busy with real life now, will accept Tiles' offer of help or otherwise discover and implement another anti spam system that is good for everyone.

Re: This board has got to be fixed....
Might be firewall settings then. Whatever it is more than a browser setting makes it too difficult to adapt. Set one exception for one site in Firefox ... sure ... fool with everything ... no. Hopefully a different anti spam system will be used here.
If you have Firefox, just for a test, try it with security/privacy settings that suit you except cookies allowed for this site. If it works for you at least you could use it for the forum until another anti spam thing is done here.
Everyone: Keep in mind that none of us are entitled to Steine's efforts fighting spam and that those efforts have been robbing us of Steinie masterpieces and sage advice due to the time he spent on that. No one but whoever paid the rent for this forum (not me) is entitled to anything here. Some kind of automated spam fighter is needed to reduce the human effort needed. The situation is understandably frustrating but I'm not seeing much gratitude to those who maintain the forum and fight the spam nor sympathy for their lost time.

Well I certainly don't want to loose RJeff or Tiles and many others because of this problem. However I don't want to go back as before either. Too much time was wasted checking the spammers and accepting legitimate new users.
There are a few of us in discussion over this to see if we can come up with a solution to please everyone.

What in the World is going on here.....
Great security... Very soon you will have
a very secure Desert... And even though
the site is paid for for years to come it will
be an empty desolation....
(the sound of scary wind over open desert,
the lone caw of a far off crow.....)
Good Luck EveryOne involved.... This is a good comunity...
I'm sure everything will get hammered out to most everyones
satisfaction...
I would keep in mind.... This site can not afford to lose contributing
members... That would be the Deathnell of this forum...
Cheers

No please don't take my post the wrong way. I love you guys and this forum. I am not going anywhere, even if I have to get somebody to post for me. This is the one forum that feels like "home" for me. Not trying to be mushy but this is a good group. I do appreciate what Prodigy and the bunch do. I am not ungrateful.

Good point Wigand. Maybe the "show you are a human" question would be effective if only used at registration. Then they would mostly have been screened out and not be a problem at login? I don't know but it might be worth investigating.

Just so everyone is aware, a fix is in the works that will (I hope)
make everyone happy. Just give us some time. All the parties need to
be reached and coordinate the fix.

Re: This board has got to be fixed....
Mea culpa guys, this is all my fault, i have too much work and no free time to see what was happening here.
I thought the anti spam addon was a good solution but was not.. i disabled the spam addon right now and seems tiles added a simple 123456789 question during the registration form, so let's see if that stop the spammers and not the humans..
So again, was not my intention to bother to anyone and all you know i love this community as much as you..
Tiles have administration rights so he will help if anything is not right or there are some difficulties..

Nono, i added the dropdown box and reactivated Captcha again. The numbers field was from somebody else. I guess that one was from Stenie
I`m not sure if the spam problem is really fixed with that though. This board sofware here is a bit outdated, and needs an update too. But at least the board is friendlier to use again. Thanks Prodigy

What happens now is that the bots pops up that have registered during the time where this question mod was installed. Happy deleting
