Hi All,
I am very new to 3D and would like some advice on a suggested workflow.
I am primarily a developer, and would like to add 3D animations to my Flash Builder projects. More specifically, I would like to be able to programmatically control 3D models and animations using the programming language of Flash (Actionscript).
Away3D (a 3D Engine that works well with Flash) seems to be the way to “control” 3D models imported into Flash. Now I need a way to create 3D models and animations.
I came across TrueSpace today and I am blown away by its intuitive approach to modeling (and I’m sure everything else).
My questions are these:
1. Can I model in TrueSpace, take it into Flash, and manipulate the model with Actionscript in Flash (using the Away3D library)?
2. How exactly does animation move from TrueSpace to programmatic control? If I say, want to have a method in Flash called “Right Arm Move” which I can execute anytime I wish, am I correct that the following is possible: Set up IK on the model in TrueSpace and in the Flash move the “hand” of the model to a point in 3d space.
Again, I am a newbie here, so if the questions are ridiculous, I apologize.
Richard

Re: Suggested Workflow
well... at first, tS enables you to make 3d movement in programing inside (workspace side) tS, just for info. Iam not a developer, but...
1. I used to export some model for my developer friend, which he used in some 3D flash (nothing tricky, easy object, easy workflow). It was quite without problem, but it was many yrs ago, so i dont remember what format I used for export. But you should be pretty fairly able to export from tS and import to some good flash software.
2. it is possible to set IK in tS. Exporting to flash is a question. If flash supports it, then teoretically yes. If there will be a problem, you can, as a developer, write tS plugin for export IK objects to flash ;)
Everything is possible ;)
I think clintonman and some other of local developers can answer better and more in detail. Good luck.

Re: Suggested Workflow
there is 3d render engine for flash with the possibility to import 3d format as sandy 3d engine (collada from the workspace of TS and vrml from the model side of TS). vrml is an old format but you have the possibility to do an animated object with the model side and export a vrml with all the setting of your animation. I used that format to export to wirefusion for 3d presentation. I think you can do the same thing for flash with Sandy or another render engine.

Re: Suggested Workflow
there is a flash plugin that came with the full ts7.61 hidden in \trueSpace761\tS called tSFlash.tsx, it must be loaded via the plugin icon on modelside.

Re: Suggested Workflow
This old plugin is to do animation, not to create a 3d model for flash.stan wrote:there is a flash plugin that came with the full ts7.61 hidden in \trueSpace761\tS called tSFlash.tsx, it must be loaded via the plugin icon on modelside.
