The "You are missed" thread

Post by 3dvisuals dude »

There are many in this Community who have gotten pulled away in one form or another in the realworld and are sorely missed by us all.

I just wanted to start a thread here so you will know you are missed when someone sends the link to you in PM or E-Mail, and I hope this thread grows, with each of us mentioning all the people we would like to see return to the Community here more actively.

As for me, there are so many names to mention that I couldn't begin to name them all, I won't even try. I will leave most to be mentioned here by the rest of you who miss them all as much as I do.

There are some I honestly think of daily though, people who's laughter, ideas, unique way of seeing things, and general presence among us is very sorely missed by me. When we all get together now in all this "shared space" / "OurSpaces" development work, we are making rapid progress together but still we pause daily in the midst of it all, always stopping to mention how much we miss certain folks and wish they were just here with us to share in the fun and progress with us like the good old days. Frankly these are the good old days too, but they just don't feel quite right without you being a part of them with us.

Daily, I miss the following people in our shared space fun and development:

Délé

early

Norm Fortier

ProfessorKhaos

Johny Tho

SteveBe

Prodigy (yes you Augusto! hehehehe!)

Vladimir Sisolak

Tomas Bujnak

Martin Kusnier

Anton Mateasik

W!ZARD

Paul Boland

We are making massive progress these days in all this, but even though these are great days filled with excitement and growth for us all, they are just not the same as they would be for us all if you folks were with us side by side in it all once again. You are, truly, sorely missed here every day.

So if you see your name in this thread, give some thought to coming back home where you are missed and you are most welcome.

Each of us here has a few people we miss sorely from the early years of this Community, so join me in this... let's make it known and hopefully some of our long lost friends will return to us and help this Community become more than it ever was before, and more than it ever could become without their return to us all.

Thanks. ;)

Well Dele moved on to Messiah Studio so he might visit here occasionally. However I think
he really enjoys that software.
I thought Johny does come here?
I still see Norm visiting the Caligari site, can't stay away. :D
I'm not sure why Wizard doesn't visit more, however he does have his own site we can go to.
SteveBe to me was a Professional talent, like many of you here. I always enjoyed his stuff.
The Developers would get a piece of my mind if they ever visited. It is what I do for a living... ;)

I think many of these folks will or would return if they knew that this forum exists and that non-TS software is welcome. They may be active in other forums or their own websites now using other software.

hahahaha! some funny replies there for sure, lol

Some of the folks I mentioned above may read this and say to themselves "what the hell is he naming me for I hardly ever spoke to the guy!" But the inspiration they conveyed, the skills they shared which were so far out ahead of the pack, these things they conveyed to me and others here still reverberate in our current projects, still influence us a great deal. Hell, one of the first few forum posts at the Caligari forum by Johny who was already making phenomenal unprecedented strides in trueSpace 7.0 scripting with customized keypanel sets to control an interactive 3D avatar fighting game STILL to this day is being poured over by us in shared space development! His methodology was light years ahead of most of us and truly unprecedented in this Community, just as Glen's, Délé's, early's, and SteveBe's was also. We are still playing catch up with all these guys to this day, lol!

Once in a while we would see one of them in the Caligari shared spaces, usually the script meetings, and would bounce ideas back and forth, refine them at lightning speed, and the energy and enthusiasm and momentum of all that left a deep impression on me as I'm sure it did many others among us. I miss that part of them all a lot, that collaborative spontaneous environment we shared and each drew from together. Don't get me wrong, we still have that now, and in fact it is buzzing with new vitality now that we have unbridled free access to trueServe and all it's potential at last. It's just that if we all were back together, or in fact together on some of these projects even more now than we ever were before as a team, I think what we would each gain from that collective effort would outweigh the other things in our lives which for now tend to prevent that from occurring.

As for Spacekdet, you left out "Froos Mind" :D

As for the Developers, all I can safely say on that particular subject for the moment is that they remind me of Michaelangelo under the mercy and guidance of the Pope. What is it with "romans" anyhow? Hahahaha! :D

I figure I'd better post here before I end up on one of those "wanted" posters. :P

It's good to see everyone is still very active here. It's REALLY cool to see shared spaces up and running again. Are there regular meetings? I'll have to see what you mad scientists have been up to lately. :bananacool2:

I'll try to come around a bit more. I do miss you guys. Everything "tS" related just still kind of bums me out a bit. It took me a couple of months to even install tS again after a reformat. It's like all of the air was let out of the party balloons. It's hard for me to get excited to do anything with tS knowing that the ship has run ashore.

As Stienie said, I have been delving into Messiah Studio. I was pleasantly surprised at it's scripting capabilities. Not that dissimilar from tS really. Although, the scripting in tS is still more powerful in a few respects, and the real-time interactive environments were more fun to create. ;) I've also been focusing on a lot of flash work. I'm actually redesigning my website with flash. After several months, I did manage to dust off tS and am using it to create the background images for my new website. I still like the look and speed of the real-time rendering. I'll post a link when I get it up and running.

Anyway, let me know when you guys are having another SS meeting and where to log in. I'll try to make it. It would be fun to see what you guys have been up to. :bananacheers:

Howdy Matthew! :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

I had been seeing your posts at old caligari forums and others, you are such a great guy! All your ingenuity and cunning is just stunning and thank you for encounter time for join us again, very much appreciate!
Thank you for you tutorial about scripting, I know that this is really powerful and I'll start to use since I'm developing scenes to OurSpace (New name of Shared Space :) ), but first I need to find time... :|
Thank you for helping YafaRay becoming possible, I'm just learning it, but is hard because the UI is unfriendly.
So for now I'm just doing what I know best, modeling... I'm just creating a whole new world for OurSpace and I hope set up my server soon as possible, I just hope that my server supports my scene (it will be really huge).

Yes we have regular meetings... The classical TNL (Thursday Night Live) that you should already have knowledge, if TNL be poor next day we have a meeting too. So be prepared for this one! 8-)

I just have joined the community some months ago... This is really cool, and is getting better, each day! Some times a huge advance, like today... when an old user comeback! :worship:

FWIW I still swing by here from time to time. Life is pretty busy for me and my time at the PC has been restricted lately. I've also recently acquired a drum kit to go with my little music studio and that takes up much of my time. These days are the height of summer here so much time is spent outside.
I'm still using tS though - despite having obtained a few other 3d apps I still find tS WorkSpace to be the best, easiest and most intuitive modeler around. I generally build my models in tS and export them to Vue for rendering. Check out my site for my latest works.
With the demise of Caligari I found I was not so attracted to forums as I once was (probably because I seem to be able to irritate some folk with great ease and I don't need that aggravation). Heck I rarely even visit my own forums these days!
As winter comes back around I expect my PC time to increase and so I'll hopefully be more active here.
Great to see this forum is still going strong - good luck to all for the coming year.
All the best

I was wondering where Dave Wilson went.

His website was Virtual Caledonia.

He had made quite a few plugins you may remember:

VCTek
VCTnT
VCBLu
VCRad
VCRep
VCCut
VCSky
and my all time favorite:
VCSex lol <---this one was for making Sections.

He had even made me a custom one which would generate random skyscrapers over a given area. VCCity

I'm pretty sure this stuff would still work with TS76.1 on the modelside?

I think there were more, but I'm not sure. The old website is down.

I did like the fact that some were controlled with data from an excel file which you could edit to give truespace different results. :bananathumb:

I'm finally out of Microsoft and I'm working on a private project (startup). It is related to 3D graphics (of course) and I will all welcome you to testing when the time becomes right :).

Hopefully you will send me a lot of dancing bananas as during good old days :).

Just stopped by here, when this place was mentioned on The Game Creator's forums. Forgot all about everyone here. Sure do miss the old days, back when it was new and fun! Starting to get back into things again; using Lightwave and plan on integrating Blender into it, possibly.
