Power Plant Boiler Pendant Visualizations

Post by Rhino169 »

I did these visualizations for a project we were doing at the power plant. We had a plan view and a elevation view to work from, but no 3d view. After making the model, we were able to better see how this work could be accomplished and see things that were almost impossible to see with the 2d drawings.

One view shows an elevation of 2 "Pendants" (which are roughly 30 ft. tall) and the other view shows 10 of the total 41 penadants and the associated headers.

It is color coded to show:
Red - Remove and replace
Green - Remains
Yellow - Modify in place

I could not render the whole image with all the 41 pendants in place due to my 4GB memory maxing out. This model became very large and combersome as I copied the pendants. I had the pendant as low in detail and polygons as I could and still keep the tubing cylindrical. I was conferring with members of the forum to see if there was a way to show it all, but my memory was a stumbling block. I am currently upgrading my whole system to accomodate larger models. One option i still may use is rendering areas of the screen and stitching things back together in photoshop.

Wow, excellent stuff rhino, its great to see 3D being used practically in the business world out there...

I'm still trying to find a way to visually present business data through 3D which would be an enormous help since business people usually understand graphs and visual diagrams better than spreadsheets and words...

keep up the good work ;)

Thanks theuns! :bananacool2:

I was not sure what the best way to accomplish would be, so I experimented and found that using a cylinder and right clicking, then selecting the end and sweeping or stretching worked the best for me.
