aqsis renderer (renderman)

Post by bitkar »

hi, have you heard about this?

http://www.aqsis.org/2009/10/aqsis-160-released.html"

another free renderer = worth plugin, maybe future for dribble (clintonman? ;) )

there is bunch of good renderers in this world, which makes me happy after having years only one in truespace (until virtualight and vray).

Anybody try this out yet? Interested in knowing if it is worthwhile to look at... I'm not that clued up on the render engines and such but would like to know the interested opinions of those that know ;)

You'd need something to create RIB files, I guess you could export the RIB from Dribble, whether the shaders. lights etc would work is a different matter.
I guess its another option if you use Silo, Maya,Houdini or Blender.
TBH I've stopped looking at other renderers, I just seem to waste a heap of time then go back to what I already use lol

Thea or Carrara, depending on whether it needs to be photoreal or not.
Looking at the things Buzz, Wizard, Marcel etc do with Lightworks it makes me wonder why there's a "need" for anything else
I rendered quite a lot of things while beta testing Thea, but most were pre made content and done to try and break Thea rather than a nice piece of art

got Carrara 6 as well but haven't gotten around to learning and experimenting with it yet... just use Lightworks in tS model side for now...

TS models import into Carrara well, Its better to use obj or 3ds as cob's end up transparent, space scenes look awesome done in Carrara

i need to put aside some time to learn Carrara properly, even if it is just for the render engine...

i was trying to use dribble to save RIB file and load it up into aqsis console. I thought it can work, coz its renderman complient, but there are plenty of errors:

how is it possible, is it hard to make it work? to adjust dribble for use with aqsis? at least for external use of a renderer tru use of exported RIB file?

Dribble has to have the truespace shaders compiled for it's use. Dribble comes with a tool that compiles the shaders. I'm guessing that aqsis also has some tool for compiling shaders.
