Post by froo »

Well I was playing with Sculptris on my new machine (Yay!). Started making a pig, turned into something similar to a college friend heh.

Thanks guys!
Yeah pugman, I really like the new PC. Works fine so far with Sculptris.
It's good to be back in it again Steinie. I need to practice practice practice.

I like it. Sort of an angry space rudolph reindeer look with a um, fanny pack on the front.

Thanks to Steinie's links; I watched the first video and kind of got the hang of the eye socket thing, at least for a first go at it.
After going to a picnic and having some good wine here's Gustav:

Small update:
I pinched the mustachio at the ends. The transition could be better but that's ok; still practicing.

He needs a monacle too I think.

Well this is close to what I wanted to achieve, but not precise. I want to make a 'helmet', not a hybrid turban.

Doesn't matter if you're skinny. Doesn't matter if you're fat.

Here is a little more practice with sculptris.

Somehow I managed to enable it to to continue with the current tool in use while holding the mouse button down. Yay.

Yep, that is the "AirBrush" option turned on. I almost always have mine turned on when I model. I see your getting the hang of Sculptris, Foo.

Ahah! Yes that was it. I did click that to see what would happen. Love that. Having to click repeatedly to inflate really sucks. Yes I am Steinie! WooHoo! I Love it!

Here's a better torso than my other 'rolls of dough':

Now, maybe I asked this before; I cannot remember.
I want to animate my characters.
I don't think I can convert to quads in sculptris, but how about exporting as obj, and importing
to trueSpace or Blender, and converting to quads, then exporting for animation in Messiah or another character
animation tool?

Thanks!

This was my work-flow when I created Characters for Jeff Roig's Animation Project.

Model in Sculptris
3D Coat-Retopology and UV Layout
Silo2 NGon Checkup
Sculptris Paint
TrueSpace VRay GI Render

With Clinton's NGon checker you wouldn't need Silo. It does get tricky sometimes getting the object back into Sculptris to Paint.
The best way to see it is to try it with simple geometry.

Ok I think this is an improvement over my last attempt. Kinda helps if I pay attention to what the other tools can do, and their options. Today in Sculptris, I discovered the Scale, Grab, and Rotate tools and realized HEY! You can turn off Global! So that made a huge difference. Apparently that's what one user was doing in a video I watched, where he made a female human head in 1 hour 20minutes. Nonetheless, I still DEFINITELY need a wacom tablet. Kinda hard to 'paint' with a mouse.
