Hola
Has anyone messed with Softimage at all? I have a class coming up in school that is a modeling class. We can either model in Softimage or Maya. From the little I have messed with Maya modeling, I am not impressed with it. It's a kick ass animation program but for modeling baaaaa. I am wondering if anyone has any light to shed on the topic of softimage modeling?
Anyone try Softimage?

Both Softimage and Maya arent realy impressive modelöing applications...
your probably better off learning Maya though because its sort of an industry standard...
There is also something else that good about Maya and thats the fact that you can
convert from polygons to nurbs what you cant do with most other applications ....
only the other way round from nurbs to polys....
There are a lot of big studios who nowadays use Modo for modeling with polys....
XSI is good for the link editor though..... ICE....

Re: Anyone try Softimage?
Yah yah! I use Softimage. It's programming abilities are impeccable, also rigging can be amazing, particles, simulations, crowds, and other intersting factors. I don't model in Softimage tho, tho from what I hear it's polygon modeling is powerful. Considering NURBS, I'd definately go for Maya tho.....
I haven't tried Modo fully yet, but I like the looks of it!
If you have any questions on Softimage, just let me know, i'm still learning and don't know a whole bunch, but I can get your started. I'm already playing around with Softimage 2013, and it's so far looking to be very powerful.
For example, all my work I've done with my ultra secret "project" SenFlores (code name) that I publish in this forum is rendered, shaded and animated in Softimage. I model the most of things in trueSpace tho.

Re: Anyone try Softimage?
Thanks guys
Hmmm, That easy conversion for nurbs and polys sounds good for Maya. I may go with that. It seems the majority of the students go the Maya route. I would consider going Modo if they allowed that. They have to keep consistency of apps among the students though so they can open files and check them and have everyone on the same page pretty much tool wise I suppose. Unfortunately my fave apps, trueSpace and Hex are disqualified from the class as well, but it makes sense to keep all students using same stuff.
Thanks
I'll keep ya posted.
Thanks

Anyone remember this showreel from 2007 when XSI was a separate company from Autodesk?
I think it is more than coincidence that Autodesk snapped XSI up right after this video was released.
