Trees!

Post by rjeff »

Ok I some good tree models. I don't have the money to by any Tree Gen software. I tried using Bryce 7, but I have found that when the the image is rendered the ends of the branches are gone, all all that is left is just leaves floating in air. Also the leaves are not the reverted to a generic shape on export.

Set the trunk resolution to 100% to export Bryce trees. They'll have a zillion polys but there will be more twigs among the leafs. I don't think the trunks ever have all twigs so some leaves might still float. You have to use textures with transparency on the leaf shapes. There is a panel somewhere that deals with exporting the textures.

Arboro is free. http://sourceforge.net/projects/arbaro/ I haven't used it so I don't know if it's easy, works well, or such.

there's a tree plugin for Sketchup by 3DArcStudio
Its good enough for background trees but you can mess about with setting to change leave styles and textures to make them more interesting

There's also a decent tree maker plugin for Studio Max. It's partially compatible with GMAX 1.2, but adding leaves will crash under GMAX. Don't know about Max though. It makes some really nice tree trunks and branches.
