Vacancies!

Post by LeonRegis »

I'll be direct: Team work is amazing, cool, funny and very very productive. Who pretends to join a team could enter mine. I'll not put more details to not discourage you, but if I get enough interested (at least 4, because when I tell then what I need, some will not join so if of those 4 I get one, would be great) I'll post the details (which type I need, but it doesn't matter if you really want to join but you specialization area isn't what I want, because I'm newbie and have one more is always good, even if is to do the same job).

So I count on you! ;)

hey leonRegis! :bananahi:

i think team work is a great idea. i don't know if i have the skill to contribute anything at all but i could try to help.

at the moment, i am considering jumping into the futuristic bicycle race contest - not so much to compete but to push myself and push my skill level along. what better way to do that (i have been told directly or indirectly by you, froo, and steinie) than to do a WIP page, even better a WIP page for the MMC.

i would expect much of the time until the deadline on the 22nd will be consumed by the MMC but i would still LOVE to help with whatever you have in mind. i have yet to complete my 1st model but i am determined to become a competent 3D modeler.

and so... please count me in. i must be able to contribute something, even as a newbie.

more soon,
patti :D

Howdy Patti!

Of course you can enter, I accept all kind of ability (newbies like me, good ones, experts and gods as prodigy, marcel and many others)!

You should open your WIP and do your personal projects, because I'm grouping the team but don't plan to use this year, and might just in February. And I see that most of users are doing teams (Wonderful ones :o ) and I'm afraid to last alone here.

But there's something that you could try to do right now. That is the beta testing of the shared space version of the Suspended Spiderwed City. Just PM me with your email and I send the scene attached the faster I can (The Shared Space vertex is a bit delayed), and as I promised who be beta tester will receive the HD version (That have more details, because the shared space need to be the most compact I can).

Continue to join, please!

Hey weedhunter,

Good to know that someone else is interested, I thought that Patti was the first and last interest, I was wrong.

About the projects, as I said it isn't going to be instantaneous and will start just next year in the first semester, first because that I need to get enough people to form the team and second because we first need to discuss what to do, I'm not saying that I have nothing in mind ( I have several ideas ) but I need to know if everyone really wants and even to add more ideas, understand?

So let's wait more folks to then give more details...
BTW is great to know that you have some experience in 2d design, which area? (Logos, publicity, etc)
Yep I saw your female, and I can assured to you that you are good at 3D ;)
Programming it's not with me... but I'm learning C++ Builder, you can also learn some scripting with Truespace to do ''games'' inside it.

Good idea Leon!

We are mostly working on our own on our projekt and it would be interesting to work in a team to do something BIG.

When I first saw the video "Pigeon impossible" my thought were: that's not impossible if there was a possibility to work as a team in this community. We could do the same with TS. For now I couldn't participate but when I'm retiered, about 10 years in future, I see no problems.

I would like to find it very interesting to work with a minor thing in a collaboration to do a video.

Yes Tommy, it's really difficult or impossible do big things alone. How many guys a Pixar team has? More than 100 in the minimum, one for each porpoise (one for texturing metals, one for modeling house things, one for lightning interiors and other for inside caves, another for modeling faces and so...) of course we can't do it here, but we can have a lot of fun and reach a reasonable goal, like shorts as Pigeon Impossible, but dividing those 5 years of work between 5 members, and then it would took just one year. But I think we can do it much, much, much faster...

The problem Tommy is that in 10 years Ts would be totally obsolete and I'll be working... :?
But you can help us with project ideas and small models, if you want.

I think you are working at Pixar at that time. Maybee there are another Leonregis at this community who have the same idea.

If TS isn't existing anymore something else are which we can do renderings with.

I would like to participate but only with a very, very little thing. I have a family, a job and other things which is involved in a household and that takes time.

I doesn't feel good then I can't complete something I promised to do because the car, refrigator or something else on the house got broke and I have to fix it.

Thanks Tommy. Most of us here have other priorities and do 3D as a hobby, some have can do more than others (like me that is in vacation now and while at school still have some generous time) but even me can face some situation that I need to stop doing it for some time, like a school search or test weeks, family holidays or trips... So don't worry about it.

The good about do this ''hobby team'' is that we don't have any deadline just our expectations and it always can wait if needed, but we need to put a little of commitment on it to make things work.

Thank you alot carlpatti for your kind words and that nice words about my website even if all are in swedish.

When I went to University to study Arts and crafts in the beginning of the 1980:ies there were no computers. We have to do everyting by hand and I think thats a good experience. I remember then I saw the first CG-animation. How natural the motion were. TS has been a new very interesting tool since 2004 among my knowledge about pencils and brusches.

About my homepage: mabyee I have to make a english version. Time is the problem.

As an answer to your questions about my students: they are from 13 to 17 years old of age. Some very active and some not in arts and crafts.

About Leonregis team work I see myself as a member of all others who can contribute with knowledge about TS among all other who has a great knowledge about CG. I hope I will learn a lot to dissapate.

The great thing about team work are that you learn a lot from each other and that's my aim in this teamwork.

hey tommy, :bananahi:

13 to 17 year olds are the BEST! i used to (among many other things i have done for a living) counsel "at risk" teens - working with them to stay in school, believe in themselves, and create goals. they taught me how think unconventionally and push my own limits. that is a wonderful age to teach - getting their attention is a bit tricky however...

don't you agree - leonRegis and weedhunter????? hahahaha

It is why they want to do many thing at the same time. but it is a good thing to learn and discover what they could do later. i am interesting to see what can do a young team. it reminds me of my youth. Tools are changing faster than men but men do alway the difference. It is reassuring to see that there is always enthusiasm from new generations.

I totally agree with you. The big thing is to working with them to stay in school, BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES, AND CREATE GOALS.

This is the big thing about our young people to believe in themselves, and create goals to develope themselves.

It is difficult for young to believe in themselves today because the world change too fast. we become serene when we found our good speed even if it is different from what surrounds us. a bit like the french fable with the hare and the tortoise. I do not know if you know it.

Good to know! I'm so happy with this! :superbanana:
After the new year I have 2 months totally free, and I'll stop creating WIPs and will finish those ongoing to then fully work to the team.

I think team work would be a really cool thing even if we walk slowly, but there will be a lot of fun and learning.
-------------------------------

Yep, teenager are a bit trick to get the attention, but I now that when it's interesting I never take my eyes from the teacher... but normally things isn't like it, we don't have a Truespace class on the school. :|

Marcel: Tools are changing faster than men but men do alway the difference.

Just to know if I understand it correctly: Tools are always upgrade and you can't trust in it, then men with their creativity and perception that make the real difference, right?

Ah and I'm quite helpful in be free of the 21 century ills (lack of believing in myself) I don't know how big are the suicides rates and others things. But one thing that really lacks today isn't the believing in themselves but the perseverance because most people have big ideas and then try to do it and in the first difficult, just give up. Always fight, fall sometimes, never give up ( I just saw it today at a truck ;) ).

Happy holidays for all of you!

yes i do agree. even for my self a High School Senoir has the tindicy to misbehave and make a teacher's life and work harder than it is. but sooner or later your students will mature like i am now. and will look up too u like i look up to my Digital Media Teacher.

Not exactly. Not a problem to trust in tool. we trust on the change and it is necessary. The difference will be the man because we know we can have the same tool. More your experience is big, more the difference is big and less the tool have importance. Most people want the best tools but in business, the experience is more important. Experience need many years to grow. If the tool change faster than your experience can, sometime you need to choose between a new tool and begin a new experience, or keep your tool to benefit of your experience. It is a problem that young men don't have. the best way for companies is to use the experience of an "old" man to directed young men with the best tool. Only in this way companies can be competitive.
But for your team for fun, the best tool will be the pleasure to create! ;)

This is the reason of I'm still using Truespace, I want to gain experience... I could migrate to Blender even it being a little worse than tS but then I will be using something with future. Will use tS while I can!

There are personal learning editions of some titles as well as a large number of freeware and open source tools.

The other free/open source tools tend to be function specific. For example, Wings3d is a free modelling tool that has a terrific reputation. K3D (http://www.k-3d.org/wiki/Main_Page) is a cross platform modeller with a lot of community support. Many of us know of the free rendering tools.

I have spent a lot of time googling free stuff and there is a lot. If the end of the process is simply to create 3d objects or animations many of these tools will do the job quite well.

The rest of the search is for specific qualities in the tools and how you use them or the qualities of the final product. The interfaces for the modelling tools etc tend to be simpler than either TS or Blender.

No way man you need to participate, this is a team that has no leader so it's a completely democracy. :D
Skype has a chat as IM. We can do by it, I don't know much english so we can chat. We just need to choose if will be by MSN (Microsoft) or Skype. 8-)

Patti and Tommy, what do you think?

hi guys! :bananahi:

i will do any of the methods - whatever works for everyone else. i know so little about the choices - IM, skype, or any others - that i can't help you choose. i do think that a method that leaves anyone else (weedhunter) out is not acceptable - we should all be able to communicate at the same time for this to work.

i thought that skype was just voice computer to computer communication - not video. i don't know if video is the problem for weedhunter, but i would need to get a webcam with money i don't have. not impossible if that's what you choose but difficult...

sorry, not sure i have helped the decision-making. this will be well worth the effort if we can come together as a group for a project. i really look forward to it!

whoops! i just missed your post leonRegis while i was typing... :bananatyping:

i think whatever works for weedhunter since he has restrictions with satellite...

and i don't really need to avoid ms messenger if it works for everyone else.

thanks,

I think that we don't need voice or video, just a mean to communicate and make decisions, just it. So like this forum we can do by IM using skype or MSN but using their chat not voice or video. Right?

oh ya i forgot to mention. im not in Russia. i am Russian tho. but im not in Russia. i got adopted when i was 5. now i live in US, Maine. i just put that location onto my profile cause i use to live in Russia. and plus i like the calling Russia hell. it basically is.
but my English is ok. i have a Russian act-cent that cause me difficulty saying the "th" and the "s" sounds. every time i try to say "ask" i always say "axe" it so embarrassing.

Well, I'm poking my nut in randomly, while directly contributing on this project might be a bit of an impossiblity for me at this moment, if everyone uses MSN, I use that rather regularly so I might be able to give you guys a hand some other way, and possibly stick my nut in to a couple of those planning sessions, I'd like to hear what this project involves...while i have skype I detest that program with such a passion it's almost holy, and plus I dont have a mic, and talking to a PC unsettles me....you can't hide spoken words to people you don't want to hear, and as such I'd only use the text chat function of it

Which IM would it be?

Now that holiday dust settled (Hope you had big and happy parties) we can start the planning, I'm on two contests this month so the maximum we could do is plan what to do and have an idea (the hardest part). I added all of you, but I still didn't Patti and Weed, I saw Tommy but he didn't reply... anyway hope that everything is running ok.

We could do a meeting tomorrow, if there's no problem, of course. Any problem we remark it to another day.

What do you think teammates? Weevil will help us, since he has some experience in team work, thank you very much!

If you want we can postpone it, maybe to the weekend like Saturday at the same time (5 PM EAST) Which means that will be 8 PM at Brazil and 11 PM at Sweden , so we could do it at 3 PM EAST in Saturday, if everybody agree.

Leonrigis, you are indefatigable and have a tough job to get a meeting with all the members in this work. Don't give up!!!! I think in the future there must be some meetings without all members taking apart since we are scattered, at it seems, around the world.

Saturday are no problem for me. I will be home almost the whole weekend.

this time would be fantastic for me - i hope everyone else is in sync! saturday @ 3pm EST or 5pmEST (you wrote BOTH times but whatever works, leonRegis) - kinda late for tommy though...  so we should try for earlier rather than later time so tommy stays awake!

i think we will do great 3D together!

@Tommy: First meetings will be important and will decide what we will do and how, so all members need to participate of those, then others will just be to divide tasks and for it we don't need all members.

@Weed: For now we have 4 counting me.

@Patti: Ok good to know I hope too!

Decided:

Saturday 3 PM Eastern Time (6PM Brazil and 9PM Sweden, I think that you can stay awake a bit late huh?)

Thanks
