Re: Landscape
Peter this is done in Poser.
I created a sky dome and then used a 360 degree panoramic image on it.
The mountains were created using Terranim8or.
The distant tree outlines were the hardest as I had to find a silhouette of mountain trees and then I used photoshop to edit the image and saved it as a PSD file with transparency I then applied it as a layer to the sky image but the trees had to be scaled down to being 20 pixels high.
The tree was created using Treemagik software.
The grass on the ground is actually two textures one which I created of the green grass and another that has brown spots.

Re: Landscape
Here is a desert background this will be used in a upcoming animation.
I am still not happy with the clouds.
For those that want to know the cactus were created in TS and yes they actually do have prickers on them.
The patches of grass were also created in TS.
The scene is rendered in Poser.

Re: Landscape
Here is the place where the main part of the animation will be taking place.
each board on the front of the saloon is a individual piece with its own texture.
This was done to give it a more realistic look and to allow light from inside the saloon to show through the slats.

Re: Landscape
Thank you for the compliments.
One of the characters from the previous design will be used in this animation.
There are several other that I will be designing to complete this.
Along with the other characters I also have to design the rest of the town and the inside of the saloon.
The saloon is where the main action will be taking place, complete with piano and characters playing poker and a bartender and some other crazy characters.
The whole story comes from a joke I was told. You know one of those jokes where it starts off with a man walks into a bar...
This is my first real attempt at designing houses, needless to say a whole town so I am spending a lot of time doing research on what old western towns looked like and trying to duplicate some of that look and feel but yet still keep it at a toon style.

Oh we have many surprises in store for you on this one.
And the first thing I am going to say is NO I am not going to be using any post effects like particle illusion.
All of this will be entirely done within Poser and Maya so stay tuned.

Re: Landscape
As the creative urge presents its self I design.
I came up with a character idea for the one that will be the bartender at the saloon.
I started on this on Thursday and finished up the basic body design today(Saturday).
I have the classic clothing from the old west to design for this one yet and a lot of texturing to give it that look of the old west.

Re: Landscape
Everything is designed in TS 4.3 and then exported out as a OBJ and then imported into Argile.
In Argile I do the sculpting/modeling and texture mapping.
It is then exported out and then imported into Poser or Maya for lighting and animation.

Re: Landscape
I remember watching it but it was not one of my all time favorites.
All the scenes and characters are being developed from a joke I heard that I thought would make a good animation.
The characters have been changed to make the story more interesting.
I have several more characters to design before I can start the animation process.

Was this a plugin for Anim8or Jeff? I've been looking a bit closer at Anim8or for the wide variety of 3rd party plugins and was wondering if the two were the same modeling software? Thx, BNG.jeffroig wrote:Peter this is done in Poser.

BNG the Terranim8or is made by the same person that does Anim8or but is used to create terrain models.
It only outputs a file that Anim8or can read so you will need both.
You can find the Terranim8or at this link http://biederman.net/leslie/terranim8or/terranim8or.htm

Re: Landscape
Thanks Jeff, I've been playing around with the 097 preview version and am quite impressed with the ASL scripts available for Anim8or. All look quite easy to write in plain text form. I DL'ed quite a few scripts and most of them auto load when the software loads up. A DOS window displays the scripts as they are loaded and I found some cool new tools for stuff like file exporters and some awesome geometric object creators. Anim8or, has a similar feel like Truspace and looks fairly easy to use too. Oh, I added the web link to my favorites and would like to install the terrain generator for possible use in some modeling projects. Thanks for posting the web link Jeff. The cloth on this character will be animated by a morph target and the movement of the character.
This character will be a by stander that is walking down the road and will most likely be at a distance so no real closeup.

Re: Landscape
Draise thank you for letting me know, I didnt catch that one.
I actually took pictures of a friends piano they have had for years and used them as textures.
Here is 1 quarter of the saloon interior.
After doing some reading on the complications of setting up scenes and dealing with all the objects I decided to try something that Pixar does.
When setting up a room they do a floor plan much the same way a blue print is done.
The layout is then divided into sections depending on how complicated each scene is to be and how large the room is.
I divided the Saloon interior into four sections, this will make animating easier as there will not be so many objects for it to deal with at one time.
Each section of the room will fit together with the other seamless so that the animation is seamless.
I rendered this as a test to see how one area will look and how the glass bottles look in the room and how the wood textures look.
No lighting has been set in place it is currently the default lighting.
I have many more pieces to add to this section, such as pictures and bar stools and lights on the wall.

Re: Landscape
Continuing to work on the interior sections of the saloon, here is the 3rd section.
Looking out the window of the saloon you see the hotel across the street.
I rendered off a image of what it would look like if you were looking out the window of the saloon.
I then created a plane and used the image rendered as the texture to create the view out the window.
The piano and stool have been scaled to correctly fit the character so when he sits it will look natural.
The view of the table and chairs is where two other characters will be sitting and playing poker and enjoying some fine spirits.
Directly to the right of the table is where the saloon doors are, while it is not shown here it will be in the next section of the saloon.
The design of the interior of the saloon was taken from several images and hours of researching what the old saloons of the west looked like.
I watched many western movies to get ideas for the saloon and will not be watching them again any time soon, thank god...

Re: Landscape
Draise as always thank you for the compliments.
A lot of thought and research went into every area of the saloon interior.
If you look at the image you will notice that the bar top is semi smooth while the barrel has a higher bump map to it.
The walls are semi to almost smooth.
While I am not trying to create a realistic scene I thought it would only be fair try and recreate the old style saloon so it had a good feel to it.
As for the story I can only say that it will be one that you will make you laugh. The total length of the animation is going to be a maximum of 5 minutes I am actually wanting it to be 3 minutes but as they say expect more and except less.
I hope to be ready to start rigging the characters by mid April.
According to the schedule that I set I am 2 weeks ahead of time, the complete finished animation will be done by October 1st.
Then its of to a couple film festivals and I hope for great reviews and added work from it.
The one film festival that it will be going to always has a great turn out and the producers from Robot Chicken hire people from it.
