RsObj File Specification?
i've been searching for anything on specifying the layout of the RsObj file, however i can't find it anywhere, can anyone point me in the right direction, it's a format that appears to work without problems however i've yet to open it in a hex editor to see if i can find any useful data but i'd like to find documentation before i do that, or if anyone can point me toward a plugin which support more model formats, truespace seems rather limited in the number of file type's it supports compared to gamespace

Re: RsObj File Specification?
Hi slicer4ever.
There is no documentation for the RsObj format.
RsObj is a Caligari-proprietary format.
Are you looking to write an exporter? If so, for Model or Workspace side?
Both sides have an SDK which you can use to access the data of your
objects for export.
I have written an OBJ exporter for Workspace, for example.

Re: RsObj File Specification?
a custom export would actually be really helpful, i'm working in the model side
edit: however if you know a plugin which allows support of more file types that would be very helpful, also any information on tutorials on setting up the sdk and compiling something for truespace would be very helpful

Re: RsObj File Specification?
hey slicer4ever.
Good to see another SDK developer!
Check out this website:
truespaceplugins.com
That is where the developers of Workspace (7.61) and Model side (6.6) hang out. There are some articles posted there
which can help.
Model side has more export options, since it is a more mature product.
Exporting from Workspace is esentially up to us.
Are you wanting to develop plugins for workspace or model side? Development is very different for each side.
The SDKs for each are posted on the Caligari website still; I believe the Model side SDK is posted on this forum;
I cannot remember.
Compiling for Workspace requires Visual Studio 2005 or 2008; Not the free version, but you can save $100 on the purchase
if you get the Learning edition for free, then upgrade from that. Stan here on the forums got it working with an earlier version of Visual Studio.
Compiling for Model side requires VC6 or Borland C 5.0 I believe, minimum.
The workspace SDK includes sample plugins and documentation. I am familiar with the Workspace SDK;
the Model side SDK is easier to work with I think, but the Workspace is very powerful too. I a somewhat
familiar with the Model side SDK; DesignDevil here is quite familar with the Model side SDK as well. He
is at the truespaceplugins.com website too.
Talk to you soon!

Re: RsObj File Specification?
ah, i see, i was suspecting that visual studio was necessary in order to create plugins due to the many references in the samples rc files, i only plan on working on model side atm so i'll go get VC6
thanks for the info froo

Re: RsObj File Specification?
I just want to add a few small things.
For modeler side there is also the possibility to use FreeBasic instead of C++. I translated all needed stuff into this language.
If you more a delphi user i also have the sdk for this language but just for tS v4.x - they need a refresh
I also have a developer "thing" for other C++ compiler like MinGW or something like that. It's a bit older (2003/2004) and from Roland Strålberg. Don't ask me what it is exactly but you can take a look if you want.
Take a look at truespaceplugins.com or go in contact with me.

I still use TrueSpace 6.6

Re: RsObj File Specification?
well, my school is giving me a free copy of visual studio 2008 pro from the msdn academy, i installed it and have compiled several of the samples, now that i can compile tsx extensions i should be good on learning the api and begin creating some plugins to aid the development of my game.
DesignDevil, i may take you up on contacting you if i get stuck, thanks for the offer and i'll try not to be too much of a nuisance, at the moment it's nice to know that i can now interface with truespace on a programming level=-)
