No render after daz .obj import

Post by horusra »

Anybody ever have this problem or know what might cause it?
I used Luuv in TS 7.61 beta 8 to import a daz studio model of a human. After it loads TS is basically frozen. Sometimes it unfreezes and when I try to render win 7's mouse icon spins for a moment and then nothing. nada. Could this be a memory problem or something else? btw, not all daz imports do this, but both humans I've tried so far did.

Not sure if you are on Workspace or Model Side. I didn't use workspace so the following is about model side TS 7.6.

I didn't have problems with this but thinking about it Daz figures are medium polygon count (high res plus subdivision = 1 is 84K polys). Their clothes can have many polygons too. You can export a lower poly object from Daz by lowering its resolution. In Daz: Parameters tab - Mesh Resolution, set subdivision level = 0 and resolution level = base. Then export/import the figure. That will have about 21K polygons.

I just tried it with a genesis 2 figure and had no problems with a 84K poly import to TS 7.6 model side with luuv. Still, the low poly export/import could fix it if is is a memory etc. problem from too many polys for your machine. Worth a try.

I'm using the Model side, that where I was at when I imported the files in through luuv. However I did switch over to workspace but I have no renderer over there and I hear vRay is gone now. ok, makes sense. I'll have to try that. I lost my motherboard around 4 months ago or so and went from 8gig mem down to 4 right now. Plan on getting another 4gig stick soon though.
One thing I did try is to take the daz files: .obj, .mtl and the Maps folder (for a skeleton army figure from Daz) upstairs and load them on my old machine which has my registered copy of Truespace 5.1 sp2 still on it and it worked just fine. That's odd because TS 7.61 beta 8 wouldn't deal with that figure either. Just sat froze and told me ts isn't responding. This machine has Win 7 pro 64 bit on it.
BTW, yeah the original figure was probably stacked polygon wise. It was a Victoria base with a add-on, + clothes, hair, shoes, etc.
