Source Filmmaker

Post by clintonman »

I thought this looked interesting. It's the Valve Source Filmmaker. Looks like software based on their game technology for making movies from the elements of a game.

Yes, Valve always tries to make things for their creative users, easy mod support, map creation tools and now this. A similar feature already existed in Team Fortress 2 where you could record a multiplayer game and then edit it in 3D with a built-in editor. This however looks very interesting as well. Can't wait to try it :D

This is a preview/concept/idea I had involving the Source Film Maker.

That's all I'll say right now but expect to see more of this badass Pyro.

Good job! I found the audio of the second video a little out of sync, but very funny! Good story lines! :D

Thanks! And yeah, the audio was out of sync for some reason that I couldn't(be bothered) to fix. I just made sure the second video (video01) was done properly.

Well executed and good thought, now I wonder if there is a way of inserting your own character into it or editing the images files that are used for textures.
Any idea on this one?

Hmm, I'm not sure if it's worth the effort. If your 3D program has animating capabilities I suppose that might just as well use that program and you'll probably achieve more as well.

The Source Filmmaker is fun to mess around with but not a great tool for more complex editing/rendering.

Personally, I'd get After Effects. It's similar in a way and much more fun to use + you can use it for pretty much anything video-related :D

Good point you make, I was just curious but not so curious that I would use it as I am set with animation software.
