A trick for Lightwork
for those who use Lightwork on the modelside, here is a trick to create a shadow with only one light, without shadow map, hdri or global illumination. The light create a ray shadow that can be smooted with an alpha glow inside the objects. i can change the shadow with the setting of the alpha glow. The interest is to control the center and the border of the shadow separately. The render is very fast because it is only one light and the ray shadow is more accurate than a map show.

Great effect! Thanks but explain "alpha glow inside the objects". I don't understand what you mean.

Re: A trick for Lightwork
The object receive shadow and don't cast shadow. I duplicate another object inside with a size a little smaller. The object inside cast shadow and have an alpha glow (or other shader with transparency). It is this object that create the shadow not the object you see on the render. I don't search to create realistic effect. There is another render engine for that. You can create different effect of shadow for each object separately on the same scene. The goal is to create artistic effect and give to you idea of creation. Ex: the shadow could be created with an alpha mask from a photo on the object.
Here is another sample, not realistic but graphic.

Rayman: i think it is a bug.
Create a shadow from an object inside an object that don't cast shadow is a way to create funny thing too. All we need is imagination. All software can do that. It is so simple and sometime it can help for a particular problem in your work.

The unreal things in a 3D program are useful but people seldom use them. Objects with no shadows, negative lights, linear and no falloff lights, ...

A person can be talented and make existing things very realistic with sophisticated software. I prefer to do photography or creating something that does not exist. copy that exists bored. I like anything that is not used as it was designed.
