Interesting subject.

May have time for this. Depends on finding a subject that can be done quickly.

No need to go all scientific on this challenge if you don't have the time. If anything you can just pick a wikipedia article, read through it, model some molecules and be done with it

I'll research the style of well known CG artist Mikom and do something as an example of that style. So far my research indicates the key features are well designed logos, aerodynamic spaceships propelled by jet and/or rocket engines and often having faster-than-light ability, some ships feature inner layouts, bionicles, sci-fi/fantasy weapons, fantasy locales with names ending in "wood". An alternative style is Star Trek.

That could work...

I'm thinking to research some kind of animation techniques?
I wish there was more time to this.

Usually I use tS to model 3D cross-sections of solar system planetary interiors drawn from PDF papers of worldwide planetologists to be inserted in Celestia. The models often shows different interior configurations due to the bulky boundary conditions theoretically assumed prior the latest state-of-the-art data the spaceprobes were send back to Earth. Now I do not have time to make new inquires, and to post old project of mine already done maybe it shouldn't be correct for the thread's aim...

Yes, that is Celestia. Of course mine is not a job since the program is released with open source license; to say, it is just an hobby related to certain of my scientific studies in the past. Because the "man" of the program is now involved in other matters (as you can see, the forum is no longer available) the software has been forked by the old "development team" under the name "Celestia.sci."; and they, along with the long standing members, we are here .For some 3D models in 3DS format or for high res astronomical texture/normal maps in DDS, JPG or PNG format suited for all 3D modellers, if interested and with the due credits for yours works (no need for private use), do take a look here which is the official Celestia's add-ons repository.

Would like to enter, but been busier than a one-legged man in a 'butt kicking contest' lately.

Fenerit: Textures! I'll definitely use textures from the Celestia Motherlode for Mikom style challenge entry. Probably a KuiperbBelt one for a planet and something else for a spectacular background.
