Art Gallery
Started working on this to familiarize myself more with 7.6. I figured it would be fun to add sculptures, frames, paintings, etc., as I go. No materials yet.

Re: Art Gallery
Hi Joe. Happy to see a TS project.
This looks familiar: viewtopic.php?p=56359#p56359
I like your design with the small rooms inside of the big room and the steps. This setting can be a showcase for your other CG projects. They could be art in this gallery.
Steps! I'll have to use them in the redesign of my similar setting.

Thanks for the welcome. I hadn't seen that, but it does look similar.
I watched the video, nice work!

A little, been sidetracked with other projects. I started over in 3.2, it's easier for me.

Re: Art Gallery
Started over again in TS7 after installing it in a VM so I can remain in the safety of Linux. Still a long way to go. I'd like to replicate this metal sculpture I have hanging on the wall, how might I go about it?

Re: Art Gallery
Nice to see truespace running on a Linux !
To reproduce your sculpture, simply paint a plane with the photo of it (make sure the plane's size has the same proportion as the original picture file), put that plane on a locked layer, then draw the shapes over it using truespace's curve tools.

Re: Art Gallery
That turned out to be a great idea, thanks. Instead of tracing though I measured the thing and did boolean subtractions, using the photo as a guide. The final result is fairly close, the sculpture has some really thin edges (like 1/32"!), and what appear to be relief cuts (presumably to allow for expansion/contraction), but I made the edges a bit thicker.
Having this in Linux is awesome. D3D was a no-go but at least the software driver works. No problems except that the rendering options always reset themselves, so no AA, etc., but I can deal. Starting to like TS7 better as I become more accustomed to it.

TS 7.6's rendering options always reset in Windows OS also. But settings are saved in your scn files.joe_7 wrote: 14 Nov 2021, 15:47 Having this in Linux is awesome. On your screenshot we can see that D3D is not so bad : at least you can display textures.
Is OpenGL mode working better ?

Re: Art Gallery
Software D3D only works in the TS6 side. Software GL also works and the transparency isn't dithered, but it's slower.
The rendering options reset as soon as I change them. That's ok, just roughing things out right now, can bring it all into Win10 when I get more into the texturing. I use Linux most of the time so this definitely saves on the dual-booting for now though.
Added a couple more items with some quick & dirty texturing:

How is your mouse behavior in the virtual machine? When I use a VM the mouse goes crazy when I try to rotate the 3D view.

Re: Art Gallery
VirtualBox has "mouse integration" available in the menu (or by right-clicking on an icon in the lower toolbar). Should work okay then.

Re: Art Gallery
Thanks for the tip. I run an older version of Virtual Box so I can run WinXP with 3D acceleration. Mouse integration fixes the crazy view tumbling but now the mouse cursor disappears in the 3D view. The good news is I just setup the latest version of Virtual Box on another machine and running Win7 works great with the mouse integration turned on.joe_7 wrote: 15 Nov 2021, 19:11 VirtualBox has "mouse integration" available in the menu (or by right-clicking on an icon in the lower toolbar). Re: Art Gallery
Kinda strange that the cursor would disappear, maybe it's the 3D acceleration? I switched back to XP after learning how to get more cores enabled but still have the problem of not being able to set rendering options. I suppose I could try to get an older version working to see if it has the same problem (and/or vanishing cursor).
Here are some examples using a texture generator I've been working on. Not sure about the "wood" yet but I guess it's in the ballpark:

looks good... wood surely needs improvement, maybe just download some free highres texture somewhere, its better than to generate it.

@Helengarcia: Thanks.
@bitkar: I agree, it doesn't seem possible to be fake wood very well without sophisticated algorithms. (I doubt I'll take it further than this, but it was interesting to do.)

Re: Art Gallery
I managed to get both 3.2 and 7.61 beta running under Wine 5.0, but not without problems. I could start a topic with installation details if anyone is interested, but it's probably not worth the bother. Here's what I found:
Both ran best in a virtual desktop with mouse capture and no window management, using Windows Vista emulation. In either case minimizing the window results in the unfortunate situation of having to go into a terminal and kill the process. Other quirks:
3.2: The program should be maximized then exited after the first start. No D3D or OpenGL. Main menu disappears but will reappear again with Alt-F.
7.61: Workspace almost works except some of the toolbars end up underneath the main window. Model side works, D3D is garbled but OpenGL is hardware accelerated with an occasional redraw glitch. Rendering options can't be changed (like in VirtualBox), and rendering is very slow in OpenGL but faster in wireframe, though it hitches up quite a bit. Menus are laggy.
So maybe not completely useless, but close. It is a little more convenient and the mouse capturing is much less annoying than VirtualBox's, but that's about it. Just amazed they work at all.

Re: Art Gallery
What is your conclusion from those tests? Will TS work for you on your system?
Wine and VirtualBox let you run windows programs on linux? Maybe others here have TS going on linux and can advise you. Ask or search the forum.

Re: Art Gallery
I was already running it in a VM, but after using it more I think I have the quirks figured out well enough to make it usable in Wine. I made a shared folder for projects so I can go either way, here it is in Wine with the hardware accel:
