Sketchup bought by Trimble...
They still work together with Google for the warehouse but its in new hands now...
Trimble is a specialist for GPS.....
Interesting what direction it is going now..
They said that there will still be a free version for the unforeseeable future and i read on the net that they
are going to invest into new features.....
aimed at the building and construction market

also version with more or much more features aimed at the construction market...
Many say they expect a lot more development and that could even be a move to 64 bit in the future...

I never bothered with Sketchup before because I didn't want Google's spyware on my PC, but after seeing how Truespace dissappeared off the face of the planet and was difficult to download afterwards, I have now downloaded many versions of Sketchup and will burn it to DVD alongside Truespace so I will always have them for all eternity, because Torrent sites have a habit of going dead, and you can't rely on them.

Trimble might delete all the old versionos of Sketchup and all the help file PDF downloads, tutorials, plugins etc. So it be important to download it all now and burn to disc for immortality.

If Microsoft have abandoned Truespace and Google have abandoned Sketchup, does this mean that 3D is not cool anymore and there is no future in 3D?

Why didn't Microsoft sell Truespace to Trimble?

If Microsoft haven't sold Truespace to someone else, does that mean they secretly hope to bring it back sometime?

Who knows what MS intended or will do with TS or why they bought it. There are many posts in this forum speculating about that. I had hoped that they would continue it and make their usual variety of versions: home, pro, etc. so there would a cheap one up to a super one. But, they didn't. Looks like Trimble will have multiversions for sketchup. I wouldn't worry about this or that software disappearing. It happens but there are plenty of programs out there. Blender is powerful, free, and unlikely to disappear. There are several cheap to midrange 3D programs. The big boys (Maya, 3DSMax, Lightwave ...) aren't disappearing since they are embedded in the movie industry.

Trimble doesnt need Truespace but they can make good use of Sketchup !
Sketchup is not disapearing and 3d is just as popular as it was.......
Sketchup is a standard in architectural designing.. but Truespace was a software mainly used by hobbyists.....

What Google need now ? Only apps for mobile and Cloud. We can't Have big 3d software for mobile. It is not the goal of mobile market today. We Have Workstation for that. Not the same world.
