I don't know why, but when I convert COB models to other formats the models geometry always appears distorted on the resulting models. BTW, I use 3d Exploration to convert my COB models to the XSI ASCII text format. I've tried saving in both ASCII and the binary COB versions, but the models geometry always results with XSI models with flattened distorted geometry. It looks like some kind of scaling issue. What other model conversion utilities can I use to properly convert my COB models to other formats to illiminate the distorted model geomtry? The solution appears to be not to export a model as COB or any of the other Truespace versions, but use another export format like X, or 3DS.
PS: I figured it out don't use the GSL version of COB, but use the TS 7.6 version and remember to triangulate the model prior to saving it as COB.
I'm having trouble converting COB models to XSI.

I also discovered that if the COB model is triangulated prior to exporting the model seems to yield a usable XSI model without distortion. It's pain in the butt to model this way, so I prefer exporting the model in the X format.

Try to convert in another format from TS. Ex: a .obj created with LUUV plugins work well and it is a real standard for many softwares. Try also different export to see what is the best for you.

Re: I'm having trouble converting COB models to XSI.
The COB format works great with other Caligari products. The problems seem to come when trying to convert COB models to other popular formats like 3DS & LWO. The SCN, format rocks as well. I regularly use it with 3D Exploration. The big problem I run into is trying to make models for video game that uses an outdated version 1.5 of Softimage XSI. The game developers refuse to port the game to use a more current versions of XSI. MAX users are just about the only ones that can make fully functional models via a custom XSI exporter. I tried modeling with MAX but that product is way too complicated for the average 3D modeling hobbist to master. Truespace, on the other hand is so much simpler to master the more one uses TS.marcel wrote:Try to convert in another format from TS.
