Rigging multiple objects together on 1 skeleton?

Post by leevviiJ »

Hi :bananahi:

Im fairly new to truespace [been using anim8or up until last month or so] > I have a qwezzie about Rigging multiple objects together in TS7.6 / 7.61.

my scenario -

I have a body of a character made up of 2 parts [ 2 parts :- MJBody and MJHead] . Both are seperate objects [encap'sd in 3D] to form 1 object [MJALL].

MJBody is comprised of the objects :- Torso, 2 forearms, 2 hands, legs [both, plus hips are one mesh] 2 feet. [ALL seperate obj's, encap'sd in 3D as 1 object :- MJBody]

MJHead is comprised of the objects :- Face, Skull. [ALL seperate obj's, encap'sd in 3D as 1 object :- MJHead ]

I did it this way as i couldnt get TS7 to texture individual parts of a "single" body mesh. It always edited the whole mesh with the current texture. So i made seperate obs and textured each seperately.

But when i try to attach skin to skeketon, it will only attach to 1 mesh. All the seperate parts can be highlighted when Att Skin 2 Skele is used but i need ALL of the meshes to attach.

Anyone know how to do it? Am i looking at it Ahrse about?

HELP!!! im really stuck on this one. :worship:

The bones in workspace side are very quirky if that is were you are working. I was having a lot of issues with having a head and eyeball both with bones and getting them to move together.. I found after playing at it for hours that you attach the the mesh to the bones, then there is an attach object to bone option that you can use. Do not try and attach the head to the torso bones as an object as it will screw up, but attach the bones of the head as an object to the bones of the torso. this will allow them to move together but one will not morph the other.

It would probably be easier to study up on the UV mapping to consolidate it into one object.

Thanks Steinie.
I saved each html page as a separate file, and zipped them all up.
Here they are.

thanks again, those were a huge help

I am currently using the MotionStudio TSX to do it, it allows the skinning to be attached with few probs, but man MS is quite "touchy" it causes an application error when loading the new scene sometimes, it also generates the same error if i switch to the workspace, ....bit of a nuisance. When the error happens, it draws the bones as objects, and clears the bone data out of MS's Right hand pain, ....cant edit it, just got to re-load it a few times and re-start the application TS7.6.1

cans MoStudios skeletons be saved as a unique object, and controlled [move bones] by TS, without MoStud running??

Im enjoying TS, but its fragile!! :D :D

MotionStudio was developed for tS6.6. That means it will just work on Modeler Side of tS 7.x - ONLY MODELER SIDE. There is no way to animate anything with MoStu and bring this into the workspace.

You have to decide:
Modeler Side and MotionStudio or the internal Bones system in WorkSpace (the internal bones on modeler side is rubbish)
I still use TrueSpace 6.6

so, can I still make animations from the modeler side?? ....im a newby, i havent actually animated anything at all as yet in TS, im still in "convert knowledge from anim8or to TS7 mode" :? :?

is TS 6.6 still available? ....hang on, it is the modeler side of TS7.6.1, isnt it. strike that.

thanks for the help, MS is too good to not use, so i guess im stuck on the modeler side for thios one. oh well!!

ts 7.x modeler side is the same as tS6.6. If you wil lanimate and render in modeler (with MotionStudio) - yes you can. In this case take a look on my side for videos and tutorials (see signature). I still use tS6.6 - but as i said you can also use tS7.x modeler side - makes no difference.

thanks again, im getting there with it, so be it slowly.

On the MS error, i have found that if i delete the object that has the skele [there is only 1 object in the scene anyhow] and select "new scene", then close TS7, then re-open it, and load the object iwas working on, it will usually load it no hassles. its really annoying!! :? :?

i was wondering if someone could explain what the "parts-go-here" [skele sub-object/dir] folder is for, on MoStudio skeletons??

I know it states the obvious, but what parts go there, the plugin does not seem to place anything in there, am i missing something??

From the MoStu Help File (under skeleton):
The PartsGoHere object is just a placeholder: all trueSpace groups must have at least two children. An empty skeleton has only the BoneBag as a child, so the PartsGoHere object is created to keep the group together. The PartsGoHere object can be deleted after you have attached some objects, but it's recommended to leave it be, to ensure that the skeleton group does not get lost.
