looking forward to seeing what you come up with Rayman... what software are you going to use?

have you ever use Bryce? I bought Bryce 6.3 on special the other day and want to try it out with trueSpace objects...

Theuns I´m probably going to use the same software that I used last month mostly Sketchup ,Moi 3d and Truespace
but for the renders i hope that the new Thea render engine will be finished early enough so that I can test it.
Will be free for some time while in beta.......

Thea is a new render engine just like Vray. Its a standalone so you can use it with Truespace.

I kept myself holding back for a little while on the project for not influenzing people on the topic because you can do a
lot of different subjects but i´m right into it now for the next 2 weeks.
here is the first stage just simple shape and no textures yet the mesh is just to test will be much denser and no corners in the
curves will be visable ....

Hey Peter! Its looking good so far. Is the subway train model hollow with the interior painted on the inside and a glass texture for the outside windows? Or is the interior painted on the windows themselves?

the train is fully modeled and the inside is real geometry but very crude not much detail because you dont see the inside all to well from the outside anyway.
but its easier that way to get shots from any angle.....
Here is a render from the inside..... all modeled with Moi3d (nurbs).

Fantastic as always Peter!
I do see something that you might consider. If you watch the Blue Ray
Special Features disk of the latest Star Trek, JJ Abrams discusses their modeling issues of
the Star Ship Enterprise and making it more realistic. The problem was/is computers draw lines perfectly straight.
They had to go in and mess up some of the lines so that it looked "man-made". The imperfections
are what make it real. That is what I notice in your preliminary work. Of course everyone has this problem
when we use 3D software. So my suggestion is for the reader of this WIP more then you Peter. I'm sure you already
know this stuff.

Yes I know Steinie thanks I also need some grime mapping and grime bump mapping. but that will be a top layer the problem is there is alot of detail mising in there
still so i have to get some of the structure in first .....and sketchup onlysupports one layer I have to ad that to the final renders...

Here is an example of how to make things less perfect with a grime layer...

The pavement should be rotated 90 degrees. In this way, these rigid pieces follow more the circle. Then, a little decoration to avoid monotony on the tunnel if you will do a station or some pipes between the stations...
It would be interesting to have a clean and bright station to contrast with a dirty and dark tunnel.

Thanks Breech block ! As I said I am just starting with it and all the props are not in place yet i said that in my post above same as grime maps
I will have a second tunnel for the other direction and that has the pavement on the other side I cant make it meet up in the middle segment otherwise
still a long way to go....thats what a wip is for showing the steps rather then finished work.... ;)

OK the strike is over !
Here are some updates I am almost finished.....
was very complex because of fitting everything into each other. The tubeshape has to continue with the boxshape the floor has to be in one piece from tube to
floor etc.
I can now used it also for animations which I will do for the animation contest.
Here are some screenshots

Thank you Marcel ! The reason I was so late this time was that the open beta of Thea that I wanted to test for the project wasnt finished
until a week ago ! Its a lot faster then Kerkythea on the same subjects. It takes 2 hours for an unbiased render in it while it takes over night
to clear up in Kerkythea unbiased MLT bpt. and doesnt even clear up even after that time.
Thats the bottom line of my testing in this project.
it was lots of work again much more then I have at the moment I dont know what to take up first.
the size of this station was also very large and I couldnt open it as one object in Vue so I had to split it ..
But both Kerkyand Thea had no problem with it as it takes components in Sketchup as 1 instance only... so It just loads 1 rolling staircase instead
of all of them....

I like this, it looks really good.
Some questions -
are you using the professional version of Sketchup?
Are there any render engine built into that version?
Which render engine have you used? I haven't heard of this "Kerkythea" before...

Yes I´m using the professional version of sketchup but in this case its exactly like the free one as I exported with the Kerkythea file export plugin
and imported also into Thea with the Kerythea exporter.
it´s free so you can get it too !
I only used the pro exporter for the Vue render
