No your not wrong !
You know why ? ?
Because probably the contract with lightworks ended or they didnt want to spend any money on Ts
anymore... so yes TS with modelside for official download is a thing of the past.... ;) :(

Well, ok, seems to be i was a long, long, long time not on the caligari site :?

I still use my 6.6 version - is the "workspace only" version really usable?

I had in mind that caligari released the workspace/modeler version because the workspace only version was not really finished. Or why have they done this?

Background: I had in mind to start a few "absolute beginners" tutorials and i would start to explain the reasons why they released a combination of workspace and modeler but it seems to be not really actual ;) I would do these Tutorials for the modeler side because for the Workspace only version (or the workspace side) i himself would need such tutorials :D

Yes, the modeler/workspace version has not been available on that site for almost 2 years now I think. :| I always keep a backup of the installer on a disc and on my external HD.
You can also download it here: http://download.cnet.com/TrueSpace/3000 ... 87286.html

When tS7 came, Workspace was not supposed to be a modeling environment. It was even called "Player" at first, in the printed tS7 artist guide.
Developpers idea was to offer a real-time window and a flexible platform that would be feed from Modeler.
In other words, users that wanted to create interactive scenes were supposed to create the objects, materials, lights in Modeler, then cross the Bridge and build behaviors and animations in Player.

But at tS7 release, many users were disapointed, and some even asked for refund.
This was not what they were waiting for.
People wanted a better character animation toolset, some hair tool, alternative render engines like VRay, etc...

Sales were going low and some third party developers like Scott even left the ship.
So, they decided (somehow in a hurry) to implement the features asked by the community... and since they had full control over the new core (Modeler's code became a spaghetti over time), they built them in the Player... which became the "Workspace".
In my opinion, there was a complete shift between Roman's vision of trueSpace (tS as a creative and experimental tool for hobbyists) and the wishes of the community (tS as an affordable and easy-to-use 3D solution as versatile as Lightwave/Max/C4D).

This is the real story of Workspace : a wobbly program that never meant to be a 3D edition program, but rather an experimental platform for interactive 3D content. It was simply not conceived to be "finished" some day.

nice to know that story. Lego brigs fits together - it makes sense. What a pitty that he did not implement those new tools into modeler.
